I don't see people talking much about either, so here goes:
Bigs have always gotten paid, regardless of defense, but this season its even more extreme, whether they are back-ups
Frye getting 5 years at $30
Gooden getting 5 years at $32
Amir getting 5 years at $34
... or starters
Dirk getting 4 years at $80
Boozer getting 5 years at $80
Bosh getting 5 years at $96
Amare getting 5 years at $100
In today's market, does Al's 3 years at $42 still seem so risky or overpaid?
====================================================================================
I was thinking that the last NBA Championship showed the importance for a team to have three good bigs if they want to get past the Lakers Gasol-Odom-Bynum triumverate. When Bynum showed up for a couple games, BOS couldn't keep up.
This may mean Jefferson has value to any true contender, for instance, even Utah. When Boozer was traded, I thought "Well, that's OK for them, because Millsap is a decent young PF." But on further reflection, is Okur + Millsap really have a chance of winning a championship? They were much better off with Boozer on the team as well, and if they could bring in a low post threat like Al, it may be what they need to truly compete.

True. Al has value to a contender regardless due to his offensive dominance in a half court, slow paced, game. In the playoffs, the game slows down and if you don't have a good option in the post, you are toast.
btw, good use of triumverate

Who would you rather have?
Boozer at 80/5 or Jefferson at 84/6(Jefferson's doubled to match dollars)? Spend $4mil more to get that extra year, and a younger player?
Jefferson still has great value.

What if Amare was just coming off his knee surgery and was posting 17 and 9? He'd have about the same value as Jefferson does right now.
Unless a good deal comes along, I say we keep Al and see what he can do after an offseason of preparation. There was talk of him practicing with Olajuwon this summer. If Al comes back strong and is posting 22 and 11 again, we'll see some much more enticing offers for him if we're still determined to move him.

The thing with trading him to an established contender (ala orlando) is that Al can come off the bench and be the scoring monster we know. It could be an interesting thing.

Would he be alright with coming off the bench though?

Al Jefferson is not a bench player. Give him a full season at PF next to Darko, with some wings who can actually knock down a jumper. Simply having decent help defenders around him for the first time in MN should do wonders for him.
And I would take Al's deal over Boozer and Amare's every time.

I'm thinking if Kenton does not go to Miami maybe they look at Jefferson and say jefferson + bosh will win. Offer Jefferson + sessions + brewer(maybe have to throw in for picks) for beasley + chalmers + future picks. Miami can then sign someone like morrow and they r solid

Durant just said Darko is one of best centers in the league. For once, I'm not being sarcastic in a tweet. #Twolves

I think Kenton is a lock for Miami, though. There's no doubt his brand of jazz will go over best in a vibrant multicultural city like Miami.

Kenton can't score in the post like Jefferson, but think of those vibrophones every time Wade scores!

Re: Two Hidden Points that Raise Al's Trade Value
I did not mean the bench comment as an insult. I just meant that a good, established team like Orlando could see Al as an asset without messing with the starting 5.
Start with Howard/Lewis in the frontcourt doing the outside shooting thing. Then bring Al and let him beast.
