Al Jefferson to Orlando? What do y'all think?

Post#1 » by Nolimit1211 » Sat Jul 10, 2010 8:31 pm

Magic fan here, there are some rumblings down in Orlando that Otis may be looking to deal Gortat + Filler for Al Jefferson sometime next week.

What is your take on Al Jefferson and him being on the Magic, would that make us a much better team in terms of beating the The Three Clowns? Is he overhyped or is a guy who leaves it all on the floor?

He's a black hole and plays no defense. But he's extremely talented. Trading him and getting Gortat back would make no sense though.

Any chance you guys are getting a TPE as part of the Redick deal?

EDIT: Nevermind, that does't help us unless another player is being packaged with Reddick and that TPE is really big.

I think both those things can be worked. He will never be a good passer or probably even a good defender but he can become a serviceable passer and average defender. If a coaching staff takes the time to hammer those things in and he is on the right team there will be little complaints from fans. I think he could be great in Oralndo.

^^ I hear we're looking to Match. Van Gundy has gone on record saying he loves Redick and it would be a step back losing him. But, with our current $ situation, you never know

He's not great (but not as terrible as people say) on defense but he is an elite low post scorer and a very good rebounder and would be sick next to an athletic defensive-minded big. You guys have anyone that fits that description?

But, yeah, Gortat makes no sense for us with Darko and Pekovic already signed at the 5. Really there isn't much on the Magic that makes sense here so it might need to be a three-teamer.

^^Actually Yes, you're right. Rumors are a Minne'snow'ta / Washington / Orlando three way. Who do yall think is better though, Carlos Boozer or Jefferson? Both seem similar in size and play style. And is Jefferson 100% healthy? I heard some things about his knees

Jefferson next to Dwight would be a pretty kickass defensive duo imo. If he doesn't have to rely on being the primary rim protector and cover the monsters all the time he'll get wore out, but he can eat up finesse PFs like Aldridge and KG. Guys like Dirk who rely on their ball handling can do damage though.

It's pretty clear that in any Jefferson trade Kahn is angling for picks plus one of those huge cap assets out there--Dampier's contract, or the TPEs held by Toronto, Cleveland, and Phoenix. And well he should. Those will be far more valuable down the road than any players (and their salaries) that other teams not holding cap assets could offer.

But yeah, considering the Heat are going to be very thin up front I think a front court of Jefferson and Howard would give you a very good shot at beating the Heat. I just don't think Orlando has the right pieces unless you can get a TPE somehow.

Here is an idea that I think could get Orlando in the dicussion --

Three team trade --

Gortat + Pietrus to Phx/New York/Cleveland
Jefferson to Orlando
TPE + draft considerations to Minnesota.

I would kind of like to have Jefferson go to Orlando so at least one team has the aresenal to give Miami fits, but I just don't see enough pieces to get it done. I am somewhat interested in Gortat, especially if we deal Love as well, but nothing else really fits a need.

If they are willing to give Gortat and Pietrus, perhaps a third team who has a TPE or Expiring could get involved.

If we were to land Jefferson, Carter would most likely be held onto til the trade deadline when a struggling team is looking for his huge expiring, that could be huge in terms of battling the Heat.

MAn... Big Al and Big Dwight. All the issues with Orlando's lack of post scoring in close games would go out the window.

You have to realize how incredible it would be to be $13M under the cap and have that big TPE.

It's also the best deal we're going to get. We don't need any more players. For some teams the cap space and TPE will have greater trade value then any players we could get in return.

Hey, long time lurker, first time poster here. Usually post on KFAN but have been followingf this site for a while.

I have a quick question, I agree that we do not need any more players. We have a lot of young players who will be looking for a lot of minutes (Love, Beasley, Flynn, Johnson, Brewer, Darko, Pekovoich, Ellington and Webser). It would be nice to see this young group get as many minutes as possible to see if they can develop. But what good is the extra cap space for the Wolves?

What can the Wolves do with 13+ million in cap space? We keep hearing that Minnesota looks like the clowns of the NBA (next to the Clippers) and that no big stars would want to come here. I have been a Wolves fan since Tony Campbell and company started....I will always support my Minnesota Teams, but man...this has been tough.

So, is cap space important to us, ouside of Glenn saving some money?

Thanks
