Highest Wolves Salary under $5 mil?

Post#1 » by shrink » Tue Jul 13, 2010 8:45 pm

Chris Reina from RealGM thought this was worth noting:

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... _than_$5m/

Is it a big deal?

I say "no." MIN is in a position where they want to find a promising young player who will develop into a star. These players shouldn't be paid like they are already a star. Moreover, six of our players are on rookie scale deals (7 with Rubio), so they are incapable of being extremely highly paid. This salary structure is a function of our youth and our upside direction, and I think that it should look differently than teams with other goals.

I certainly don't think it's a bad thing, OKC is the other team with no players making more than $10 million and I hope thats the kind of model we are trying to build off of, build through the draft and use capspace to acquire additional assets.

The with all these small deals the Wolves could be in a good situation with a new CBA on the horizon.

It won't be determined till after a new CBA has been developed but it looks like we will be in a much better situation with our roster then others.

I think whatever the new CBA is, it will allow owners some number of years to clear the liabilities from their books. I don't think it offers much advantage either way, and our financial situation simply reflects the youth of our hopeful starters.

The last CBA did not help us at all. Garnett was still on the books for his huge contract and if I recall at up over 40% of the overall salary cap. I would assume it would happen again, old players contracts would be grandfathered in, but teams will not get any support.

I think its great. we essentially will role over our capspace till the trade deadline or next summer, meanwhile we improved our team significantly. Lets see what happens with Sessions and Brewer. If the Fernandez deal comes to fruition, we will make some noise next year.

I am confused, is he just guessing on Pekovic and the rookies? To my knowledge they have not been made official yet.

There is no Fernandez rumor. Just some guy on twitter.

Wes and Lazar have signed.

Anyone able to determine if they signed 20% max?

I think that's all but guaranteed.

Interesting note from Ford's twitter --

Xavier Henry remains unsigned. Apparently Heisley is refusing to pay 120% of the salary scale so Henry is sitting out summer league.

With Gay returning and the Tony Allen signing, I wonder if they would take the pair of future first we got in the Al trade for Henry? Maybe we throw in the low cost Ellington as well?

^ That'd be awesome. Not sure if that will happen though. Mayo is trying to play point so they may want to roll out with mayo-henry-gay-randolph-gasol

But if we did send them the picks and ellington then they could just keep playing conley for now and look to get a wing next season(or a better point). Probably a pipe dream at this point, though.

What about Sessions and a pick for Henry?

Make it session and ellington or brewer somehow. Henry and Wes together would be great. I like that even better than Rudy... which I know was never a legit rumor but still nice to think about.

Henry is a SG, but needs to play SF on defense so he would work well with both Johnson and Webster and would form a killer rotation. Brewer would need to be Jeffersoned as well..

Darko / Pek
Beasley / Love
Johnson / Webster / Beasley
Webster / Henry
Flynn / Ridnour

I would be beyond thrilled if we got Henry somehow.

I like the way you think. I'd give them their pick (via Utah) back, their pick of Brewer/Ellington, and 3 million.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.
