This leads to a rather resolute implication for the Wolves in relation to this player. Bjelica will be hard to attain if this deal goes through bearing in mind that Olympiacos most definetely is the wealthiest club in Europe, depending on clauses ofc.

Why? He's probably not going to play for us for a few years then...

Shrug. There aren't a ton of minutes available at the 3/4 spots anyway right now. I've always expected that he'd play overseas for another year minimum.

Yeah, this was already an assumption that he'd be overseas to start his career. Not a big deal.

A couple of us were hoping he'd come over, but it was never a likelyhood. Wait til either Beasley or Love don't work out and we'll have minutes for him.

I didn't really expect him to be on the team, but man all these Euro-stashes are getting pretty disheartening.

It's never a sure thing that you're gonna get the player you wasted a draft pick on. They shouldn't enter the draft unless they are definitely coming. No point in entering it then not coming because they'll make more money over there or they don't like the team they got drafted too.

I think it's a 2 way street. He probably talked to the Wolves and they said that there wouldn't be much time for him this year.

Also, the article says that he still might come over.

And it's never a sure thing that drafting an american college player is going to work out. And that goes for any pick, anywhere in the draft.

The 2nd round (especially in regards to foreign players) is a really cheap way to purchase an exclusivity (for the NBA) option on overseas players without affecting a team's cap situation or taking up a roster spot. That seems to be the way that Kahn wants to use the 2nd round. Which I'm fine with, now that we've got one of the best teams of euro scouts around.

yeah I am okay with it. I do kind of wish we would take some chances on a couple american second rounders cause there are the occassional Dejuan Blairs that slip through the cracks. If Whiteside would have dropped to 35 (I think he was 33), I hope the wolves would have snagged him and not just blindly select the best euro prospect.

Yeah that's my thought. It seems like most of these Euro guys won't even get a chance to practice with the team.
Loukas Mavrokefalidis and Henk Norel? Kinda feels like we never intended on bringing them over. Just a way to get rid of the obligation of signing a 2nd rounder that year and hoping that they may explode at some point.

I think Whiteside should have been picked at the end of the 1st round.

Most second round players get wasted in the bench anyway, so I don't think that really matters. I actually like it for their development because they'll be getting playing time in a tougher league than the D-League.

Plus it seems like Euros want to come over regardless of $ at first after dominating the Euro league, because they know they will eventually make more if they become Dirks and Pau Gasols. If they don't dominate the Euro Leauge, and never show up, it's even better for NBA teams because they would have wasted resources on a Euro who wasn't going to make it anyway.

2nd round euro picks are sweet

If we lose him for good and somehow lose Pek, I am done with the Euro stash stuff.

Yeah, he clearly doesn't want to come here and actually wants to go to the Knicks.

I'm tired of this!

If you aren't going to play in the NBA then why are you in the NBA Draft? Seriously? Why does the NBA even let foreign players into the draft? It makes no sense. You are drafting the rights to a player that may never even come to America. It's then a wasted pick. I'm all for a player having time to develop but he can either develop and when he is ready to come over then be able to declare, or go to the D-League like everyone else.

If everyone wants to sign with the knicks, why do they have such a crappy basketball team? I'm starting to think their front office must be terribly incompetent...

Drafting Euros and letting them stay overseas for a while is not only common, it's a STRATEGY. Many teams want their players to stay overseas for a year or two.

Also, foreign players are automatically eligible for the draft if they turn 22 during that draft's calendar year, so it's not always their choice to declare for the draft.
