IND-UTA-MIN-MIA

IND GIVES: TJ Ford + Dunleavy + rights to Barac + Lorbek
IND GETS: Sessions + Kirilenko

UTA GIVES: Kirilenko + Ronnie Price
UTA GETS: Dunleavy + TJ Ford

MIN GIVES: Sessions
MIN GETS: cap space + rights to Barac + Lorbek

MIA GIVES: TPE from Daquan Cook
MIA GETS: Ronnie Price

Why for IND: This deal creates a TPE big enough to add Sessions. They can start developing a young PG alongside their young youth, rather than waste a season's worth of minutes on TJ Ford. Kirilenko may be a decent trade asset at the deadline.

Why for UTA: The arrival of Jefferson means that Kirilenko no longer needs to play PF, his better position. Dunleavy's not quite as good, but TJ Ford is a much better back-up PG for a championship-caliber Utah Jazz team. Both Dunleavy and Ford are established vets and both are on expiring deals so there is no longterm financial commitment, which would be important to Utah. Moreover, there's almost no financial difference .. UTA adds only $0.15 mil in salary.

Why for MIN: Sessions is dealt for cap space and a couple future Euros.

Why for MIA: Use the $1,362,120 Daequan Cook TPE in a perfect fit to get a back-up PG for Chalmers in Ronnie Price at $1,381,250

Is Utah going to want to take on those deals?

UTAH:

PG Deron Williams / TJ Ford / Sundiata Gaines
SG Raja Bell / C.J. Miles / Othyus Jeffers
SF Mike Dunleavy / Gordon Hayward / C.J. Miles
PF Al Jefferson / Paul Millsap
C Mehmet Okur / Al Jefferson / Kyrylo Fesenko

MIA:

PG Mario Chalmers / Ronnie Price
SG Dwyane Wade / Mike Miller
SF LeBron James / Mike Miller
PF Chris Bosh / Udonis Haslem / Dexter Pittman
C Joel Anthony

IND:

PG Ramon Session / A.J. Price
SG Dahntay Jones / Brandon Rush
SF Danny Granger / Paul George / Josh McRoberts
PF Kirilenko / Troy Murphy / Tyler Hansbrough / Josh McRoberts / Solomon Jones
C Roy Hibbert / Jeff Foster / Solomon Jones

Looks like this would make it easy for IND to trade Troy Murphy too.

Its the same price, and they are expirings, just like what they send out. Its a financial wash for UTA, so it really depends on whether they like the talent better. Dunleavy is certainly a more natural SF, and TJ Ford is a clear upgrade over Price.

Seems like Indiana gets the best two players and Utah gets hosed.

I'd appreciate it if you stat-monkeys would take a look at Kirilenko at the SF position.

It was my impression from the Utah posters that he was much better as a PF, but I wanted to know if that was true.

Well he was a near all-star at the PF position, which is why he got that giant contract. With Okur out, he'll actually be playing 1/2 his minutes at he PF position for awhile -- Jefferson will be a full time center. At SF he's still a good, versatile defender and brings much more to the table than Dunleavy in my opinion.

Well, he was close to an All Star in 2004, when he signed the contract, but not lately. UTA likes him, but he's been enigmatic.

http://www.nba.com/playerfile/andrei_ki ... stats.html

He's not even a reliable start any more.

Kirilenko
2007-08, 72 GM, 72 GS, 30.8 mpg, FG 50.6%, FT 77.0%, 4.7 RPG, 4.0 APG, 11.0 PPG
2008-09, 67 GM, 10 GS, 27.3 mpg, FG 44.9%, FT 78.5%, 4.8 RPG, 2.6 APG, 11.6 PPG
2009-10, 58 GM, 35 GS, 29.0 mpg, FG 50.6%, FT 74.4%, 4.6 RPG, 2.8 APG, 11.9 PPG

Dunleavy
2007-08 82 GM, 82 GS, 36.0 mpg, FG 47.6%, FT 83.4%, 3P 42.4%, 5.2 RPG, 3.5 APG, 19.1 PPG
2008-09 18 GM, 14 GS, 27.5 mpg, FG 40.1%, FT 81.5%, 3P 35.6%, 3.8 RPG, 2.4 APG, 15.1 PPG
2009-10 67 GM, 15 GS, 22.2 mpg, FG 41.0%, FT 84.2%, 3P 31.8%, 3.5 RPG, 1.5 APG, 9.9 PPG

Is Dunleavy done? Heck is Kirilenko?

Its long been my belief that Kirielnko needs to be traded, even if its for two lesser players, because UTA can't afford to eliminate $17.8 mil from its roster on one player who isn't an all star.

AK47 is still a very solid two way player and having him around to play SF/PF is going to go a long way towards letting them get by with an Al Jefferson, Memhet Okur and Paul Millsap frontline as his defense, length and shotblocking will help them cover the lack of interior defense/size they have up front.

Hell he lead the Jazz in PER differential and was second in roland rating last year.

OK, I hear what you're saying. I still think his $17.8 mil salary creates too many holes for a team

Andrei Kirilenko 17,823,000
Deron Williams 14,940,153
Al Jefferson 13,000,000
Mehmet Okur 9,945,000
Paul Millsap 7,600,000
FIVE PLAYERS: $63,308,153

If you count $6 mil for Heyward and Mills, they just aren't deep enough to win, and stay under the lux. Kirilenko is a luxury (if you can call a $17.8 mil player a luxury), that they simply can't afford. They need talent for him, they need veterans, they need expirings.

He is an expiring.

Yeah, everybody they take in is an expiring too. I'm stressing that if I'm UTA, its beneficial if the talent coming in is expiring since AK is expiring.

Do you like the balance better if Troy Murphy and Miles replaces TJ Ford and Ronnie Price??

IND GIVES: Murphy + Dunleavy + rights to Barac + Lorbek
IND GETS: Sessions + Kirilenko + CJ Miles

UTA GIVES: Kirilenko + CJ Miles
UTA GETS: Murphy + Dunleavy

MIN GIVES: Sessions
MIN GETS: cap space + rights to Barac + Lorbek

FOR IND: Murphy, Dunleavey and Kirilenko are all not part of the team next year, so they get a look at two younger players in Sessions and Miles.

FOR UTA: Murphy provides extra size, especially while Okur is out. In the play-offs they have plenty of size to defeat the Lakers .. Okur + Jefferson + Murphy + Millsap. This adds $1 mil to UTA's payroll though which I don't like, but its only for one year.

Lots of discussion for a year on a swap between Kirilenko + Miles with DET for Prince + Rip Hamilton. However, this has the size issues you mention earlier, and I think Rip's $12.65 mil for 2011-12 makes it too expensive.

FOR MIN: We still need to see what's up with Flynn now, but the price is the same as the previous deal.

Right, but if they're just swapping expirings the talent coming back to Utah has to better than the talent going out for them to consider such a deal. So far I haven't seen that in any of these Utah deals. Kirilenko and Miles are both better than Murphy and Dunleavy and then when you consider the importance Sloan puts on defense, at least from Utah's perspective, they are a lot better.

Miami has no TPE.

Bottom line is that Dunleavy blew his knee out real nice and might never be as good as he was, which was never as good as Kirilenko once was anyway, and that Miami has no TPE because they renounced it.

Do you have an official way of verifying this?

Its listed in some places:

http://www.storytellerscontracts.info/r ... laries.htm

.. and not in others.

Remember, MIA didn't necessarily have to renounce all their exceptions in order to use their cap space - just the amount necessary. They didn't need to renounce their MLE, for example, to sign Bosh, Wade and LeBron, since they didn't take max deals. Even with their cap holds, they are only at $50 right now

http://www.storytellerscontracts.info/r ... laries.htm

.. so they'd have room to keep the MLE and the TPE and still be under the $57.7 figure.

I believe they renounced it to sign Haslem. The ESPN trade machine is probably the most reliable source for TPE's and they do not have one for the Heat.

I think you're right. Haslem makes sense, and its especially telling that he's not been updated on the storyteller site

The Heat could have been at the storyteller position, used $4.3 mil MLE money on Mike Miller, and had $1.5 in MLE left, $1.4 TPE, and some cap space, and a smattering of cap space, renounced the excpetions, and combined it all to offer Haslem $3.45 mil. Andfor those just reading along, they couldn't just re-sign Haslem with Bird Rights, because they needed to waive him to have enough cap space to sign LeBron and Bosh.

Just a suggestion - I've found whoever figures out tpe's for espn to be mistaken several times in the past. Probably best to confirm between them, storyteller, and wyn is following them now also on his great website.

No way the Jazz do these deals. We don't need TJ Ford, and we already have dunleavy (ie gordon hayward). What we do need is a great defensive perimeter player like AK who is versatile enough to run the offense a little for the 2nd unit. Also, we would prefer his expiring contract to two very mediocre players on less than desirable salaries.

Not a chance in hell.
