Saw this on the trade board.
# If they move Vujacic, and there's a decent chance they will, Brown will likely be back in LA. #Cavs stuff sounds like just a flirtation. about 1 hour ago via web
# Sources said Lakers are trying to trade Sasha Vujacic wfirst round pick to get his salary off books. They tried to do it for Delonte West. about 1 hour ago via web

How many years does Sasha have left? Regardless I would be depressed if such a trade were consummated.

He's expiring, but I concur...he's a d-bag and I don't know that the 1st is sufficient payment to take on such a waste.

whats sashas contract look like? i thinks 5 millish, but im not sure how many more seasons it runs. if its just for this season, and they want him off to make room for brown im all for it. trade for him, buy him out, keep the first.

This is Sasha's last year, and he's owed $5,475,113.

if they "tried" to move him for West, then it didn't work and it's not going to happen.

You're probably right. The fact he's expiring would bug me even more if the deal did happen though, just for the fact that we allegedly did the West deal to save money, then turned around and paid 5 million for a late first rounder.

save money in the long run tho. not definitely this season. say we do the trade, we buy him out, and pick up another asset in anoter first.
otherwise we'd end up cutting west for nothing. presonally, i think its a smart move if Kahn wants to keep stockpiling assets for a big move.

But that cap space is an asset for that move.

I wonder if they would be willing to give Minnesota any cash to cover his salary.

we're not even at minimum salary yet. why not have him on the books for a season? if the move comes i assume we will have someone to give up to make up for the difference. brewer for example.
hes aquiring assets to make a move. we have a ton of cap space. this will be beneficial to making that move. what if they want 3 draft picks for..... carmelo for example? we've got some cap space, those 3 picks plus brewer. its another asset for a big move, as opposed to letting west go for nothing.

5 mil seems steep for the #29.

If the Lakers kick in $3m they still save money and we get a 1st rounder for less than market price,
Not sure I care either way to be honest

Pretty much my thoughts too.

I think I'd take Sasha and a 1st for West if LA gave us 2 or 3 mil as well.

I definitely would, especially if they would be willing to give us 2 mil. or more. We would at least be getting a playoff-veteran, who knows the triangle offense and Kurt Rambis, And he would help with further instilling the offense, and also hopfully help command more respect for Rambis, since they have worked together in LA. Plus it gives us another International player!!!!!
Oh and we'd also be getting a first round pick likely between 26-30 and we see that Kahn seems to enjoy those... He would just be a bench warmer anyway and we could afford to let him sit for a year, or trade him (more like his contract) and other assets at the deadline for another talent. I say do it. What do we have to lose? 4.1 mil for this offseason? we dont need the money yet.
But i dont know if they'd be willing to throw in money for the deal, and I dont know that we would want to do it. Although i dont really see why we wouldnt...

I'd have to pass. Sasha has no use on this team and with 3 picks probably coming in next year a 4th is pointless.

The 1st doesn't have to be from next year's draft.
I agree with WesleySnipes comments - If the Lakers add $2+ mil to the deal it would be like renting him for a year and getting a first round pick for $3 mil. He knows the system and how Rambis works things. Another veteran that doesn't need to start.

I don't have strong feelings either way.
The Laker pick will likely be #28-30, so not very valuable. If it was sold, it'd be worth no more than the league-limit $3 mil cash. If the Lakers wanted to get rid of Sasha, it'd be worth it for them:
$5.5 mil salary
$5.5 mil lux penalties
-3.0 cash
-3.0 cash they could get for the pick
$5 mil in savings
For the wolves, it's not as good:
$3.0 mil cash
$3.0 mil they could get for the pick
-5.5 to pay Sasha's salary
$0.5 mil in profit.
However, note that the Wolves are trading raw cap space, and getting back cash. cap space > cash.
Lastly, a more reasonable move for the Lakers is to wait until the deadline, and hope someone would have cap space they'd be willing to deal then. At this point, they'd have paid 2/3rd of Sasha's salary, but the lull lux penalty is based on the roster on game 82. They may try to pay someone cash to take Sasha then, and keep the pick.
1/3 sasha = $1.8 mil
MIN takes on Sasha + $3 mil in cash, and makes $1.2 mil.
