Hey everyone. I just discovered earlier today that I am moving to Rochester in September. I currently live in northern MN, and have never been to Rochester before.
Is anyone familar with this town?
Is it a good place to live?
Do they get channel 45 or FoxSports?
Where do I get to watch or listen to my Wolves?
Are there fun things to do? Good places to eat?
Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Its been years since I have been to Rochester but my family and I use to go camping at Whitewater State Park quite often. I highly recommend going there if your into that.

I just asked a buddy of mine from high school who goes to Augsburg College down in Rochester what kind of cable providers do they get down there and he said that he has Comcast cable which carries both Fox Sports Net & Channel 45, so watching the Wolves shouldn't be a problem.

most people get their cable through charter, which carries fox sports. when the wolves (or twins and wild) play on 45 or my29, they'll sometimes broadcast it through the fox sports channel.

enjoy the move to roch, its a big enough city to find some cool things to do, but not overwhelmingly big like the cities can be to some.

One of my close friends from college is from Rochester, so I've been down quite a few times. It's a pretty nice place. Some decent bars and lots of food choices, and as those guys mentioned, no problem watching the Wolves.

Also, Rochester is less than an hour south of the Twin Cities, so if you feel like shaking it up, it's close enough to do so.

It's a good place to get sick. That's all I got.

Rev's probably the best one to ask.

Grew up near Rochester.... It's a great place to raise a family (good schools/low crime/Mayo/etc.) but if you're 21-25 it might get a little boring. Kathy's/Gilligans/McMurphys/Mickeys are all decent bars.... lots of good restaurants downtown and like Esohny mentioned, it's about an hour and a half drive up 52N to get to the cities so it's not too far away.

Rochester has all the Well-known restaurants that you find in the TwinCities suburbs, but I like to stop at a local BBQ shack when I'm in town called John Hardy's Bar-B-Q.

The only thing you need to know, is its the only place in Minnesota that has a golden corral.

lol. I wikipedia searched Rochester and under the "Recreation" heading it very politely said pretty much the same thing: "There are plenty of biking trails. Canadian Geese Migrate from the North and spend much of their Spring along the parks and these biking trails". I was immediately thinking they aren't fooling anyone. If geese show up, There will be poo...
Thanks for all of the helpful info! I was hoping that free TV via a digital converter box would hook me up with a channel for games-but I might have to spend my already limited cashflow on cable (it's cheaper than buying drinks at a sports bar 3 times a week).
I seem to vaugely remember someone (I think it was Rev) complaining some time ago that even though Rochester was huge, they didn't get a major channel that aired NBA games- and they could only watch about half the games (so I'm guessing it was Fox Sports only cable provider).
Also, being only an hour away should allow me to physically go to more games...it's too bad I'm not a college student anymore and can't get in on those 10$ wednesday games.

Don't you still have your college ID? That's all they need to see to give you the discount.

Yup, that was rev and that was KSTC-45 and it was Rochester.

I bought a road bike from "THE" Erik the Bike Man that's way too expensive. That way my frugal nature forces me to go out and ride.

 It's nice to know someone has as photographic a memory as I do. Maybe I'll go the Comcast route, since apparently you get both channels.

I didn't know that. That's awesome. I guess there isn't really a way they can prove you don't still attend unless it has an exp. date. I hope we play the Jazz on a Wednesday.

Well, I do have a good memory, but also I had an old email I dug up from rev and his back and forth banter with 45 because I wrote a college paper on television markets and geeky stuff like that.

Stalkers all of you.

No Ch-45 in Rochester when I was there. Of course, some sports bars (mcMurphys RIP) had it somehow but they are gone.
