MN/MEM/LAL

MN out: Brewer
MN in: Vujacic and Henry

Mem out: Henry and filler
MEM in: Brewer and LAL 2011 1st

LAL out: Vujacic and 2011 1st
LAL in: MEM filler (1 to 1.6 million)

MEM does this to move Henry (if they can't come up with a solution) for a player that could come in and play Henry's role this year better than Henry plus a future 1st. Pretty good haul I think.

LAL do this to save money.

We do this to get a solid SG prospect on a new rookie contract, get out of the temptation to re-sign Brewer at the end of the year, and eliminate another of the McHale players!

I'd probably do it, I hate to see Brewer go but I don't think we're going to bring him back anyway. Plus I'm a huge Henry fan and I think he'll be a very good player

LA Lakers would for sure do it

I'm not too sure about Memphis though, but they might be wiling to do it

-also the filler would have to be Haddadi

I like this trade. Brewer would be effective in MEM or in LAL. I think we'll struggle deciding whether to meet other teams bids for Brewer next summer, and would rather have four years of Henry.

I wouldn't want to move brewer but would probably have to in this case. i still think hes going to get a lot better now that his knee surgery has been over a year and he improved so much last season. if his ball handling can improve and he can continue to improve his defense he's going to be special.

I wouldn't do it. A rookie contract for XH is tempting, but I expect big things from Brewer as a long term piece for the Wolves.

I'd make LA kick in three million and a second to us. That is way too nice of a deal for them.

Actually, I agree with the above (Saltine). The Lakers would normally have to pay double on Sasha, so it shouldn't be too big a deal to get them to throw in a little more.

Just send the pick we've received in the Utah deal back to Memphis and a bit of cash if needed.

Vujacic is due to make $5,475,113, but being over the luxury they pay $10,950,226.
If Memphis tosses in Hamed Haddadi, who makes 1.6 million, thats 3.2 million in salary, saving them 7.75 million dollars. If they kick us 3 million and a second round pick they still save 4.75 million, which is worth more than a very late first and second.

Vujacic also becomes our highest paid player... instead of Brewers 3.7 million, the wolves spend 2.02 million on henry (20% bonus) and 5.75 million on Vujacic. 7.77 million, the 3 million extra from LA means we only lose 1 million, and Brewer, on the deal...

Not a bad idea, Brewer and their first back, for Henry and their second round pick.

Makes way more sense then taking on Vujacic and his bloated contract.
I'd rather give Henry and Ellington, Brewer's minutes. Their is really no point to helping out LA, the Lakers should have to pay their 10.95 million dollars for a useless player, they deserve it ;)

It's going to take more than a pick in the 20's to get a #13 pick (even if cash is included).

We have the Memphis first round draft pick, that's the pick I was talking about, not the Utah pick.

2011: Top 14 protected
2012: Top 12 protected
2013: Top 10 protected
2014: Top 9 protected
2015: Top 9 protected

On one thread posters are complaining that the Wolves have a horrible history of developing players, then on the next thread, the majority are trying to dump Brewer so we don't need to pay up for his development ... nice.

henry is 100% unproven. Brewer has already proven he can play significant minutes ... proven he will work to improve ... proven he has the staying power to recover from injury ... has the height and athleticism. But no, lets trade him for some half-wit that has proven nothing in the NBA so we can save a buck acquiring a player that may never develop. It's simply a load of crap.

I'm OK with the trade as Henry is much more of a true 2 than Brewer and I like Shrink's take on getting him for 4 years instead of having to write a bigger check to keep Brewer down the line. I sense Brewer is all but gone before the end of the year and quite frankly I think I'd like to trade him before the start of the season. With minutes being at a premium, Brewer isn't going to get massive minutes which will only drop his trade value. If you deal him now, you can do so as a starter.

I'm curious as to who the other interested teams would be. I think this is the type of deal that I want to see the Wolves make. Trading a reasonable asset to a team in a bad spot to get a better asset. I like it. What I'm wondering with Memphi is whether or not they want to include Thabeet's contract in a deal. Thabeet's deal has team options the next two years and it would be PR suicide for Memphis to dump him - it's a lot less of a tragedy if another team dumps him.

But we know what Brewer is already. And we know that we will have to pay him a decent chunk of change next year, and we know that we don't have a ton of minutes for him anymore. He can work to improve, but maybe he is already close to as good as he's gonna get. We tried to develop him during his rookie contract years. Will he be worthwhile on his upcoming contract, as a 6-7th man on the lowly Wolves? Probably not..

Purely speculation crossed with personnal opinion ... and you're entitled to it.

IMO, at some point a team has to stop thining every new kid is better than what they already have and start developing some chemistry. We're already too young and it's not like Henry doesn't have his own set of weaknesses. Heck, he's already balking at his rookie contract.

We also happen to have a few players who see a desperate need for consistency and a chance to build chemistry. Trading away players who've made the committment and shown they can improve their level of performance is an extremely negative experience in the eyes of a team ... and let's not forget that it's a players game...

Lastly, Brewer has proven much more as a player than Rambis as a coach or Kahn as a GM ... if they both make big strides in their jobs, we're good.
