Stiemsma Waived; Alexander Still Around

So...what was your favorite Greg Stiemsma moment?

The Wolves this morning waived the D League player and former Badger they signed before the season's final game in April.

He never played a minute as a Timberwolf, unless you count Las Vegas Summer League play.

So why did they sign them anyway?

Two reasons:

They wanted a summer workout partner for Al Jefferson, a job no longer required obviously.

And just in case they needed his non-guaranteed contract to make a big summer trade work, one that never came.

Still between jobs, I made an afternoon trip to Target Center to shoot some airballs hoops today. Hearing thumping and grunting from the Wolves facility I made a jaunt down there to see what appeared to be most of the team hard at work. This was encouraging. However, I did see who I believed to be Joe Alexander still working out with the team (I can't fully verify, but a caucasian swing man with curly hair was in attendance). From what I could see he looked good. Nice first step and a decent off-balance jumper. If it was indeed him, it could be reasonable to expect him to be on our training camp roster and perhaps offered a roster spot. Logjam implications aside, I for one am a huge fan of Kahn adding these "2nd chance" guys for cheap. I recall during the McHale regime many of us always clamoring for these types of low-risk-moderate reward signings. It is never a bad thing to give a recent top 10 pick a solid look.

we hardly knew ye' Greg. We now have 1 guy expected to make the roster who is over 7ft in Darko. eeek

Maybe Joe can pull a Chauncy and blow us out of the water. As long as he doesn't pull a Griffin and cruise downtown drunk while watching porn, he'll be a success.

I can understand the concept of signing Joe Alexander to a cheap deal, and hoping the lottery pick can finally make good.

However, without minutes, he won't get the chance to improve his trade value.

Unless we think we'll be trading some of our starters/rotation players, I think we should let Joe try to catch on with a team he can help.

Let Joe play pre-season, if he sucks, get rid of him.

Alexander is with the Cavs at the moment, supposedly. Maybe it's Luke Jackson.

Ohhh I still lurk around these parts.

To Sham as we just exchanged on Twitter, he was right handed so that eliminates Jackson despite the Ridnour connection (who was also in attendance). It really looked like him but I can't 100% guarantee due to the view I had. Thanks for posting the link to TWB.

It probably is Alexander, all things considered. It's just that story was that he was in Cleveland this week. Guess he's doing both.

I was kind of hoping it'd be Luke Jackson, really.

Maybe they've re-signed Pavlovic and he's grown his hair? 8-)

all these guys think they need minutes to be productive ... not what I'd like to see a lot of. If they don't understand roles at thsi stage they are unlikely to ever see the light
