Question About LAC Pick

If we are showing progress by the trading deadline enough to where it looks like we might finish outside the bottom 10, do you think LAC might trade us the pick back for one of our guys? First guy who comes to mind is Brewer. With a lockout looming, I could see the Clips seeing more value in someone like Brewer over a late lottery pick.

Would we have any interest in something like that? It would take Brewer's $5 million qualifying offer/cap hold off the books. (This would be assuming guys like Johnson, Webster, Hayward, Ellington are playing well and need minutes, and that we wouldn't be bringing Brewer back in 2011)

Depends for me.

1. An improved (yet again) Brewer is not worth trading.

2. How high is LAC on Aminu?

3. If we have no shot at the number 1 pick, let them have it. (When do we ever have a shot at the 1st pick anyway?)

I'd say let them have it. Although I don't know if 10 teams will be worse than us anyway though....

Well, at least one Wolves fan who attended tonights scrimmage doesn't feel thats the case (Note: I read the blog AFTER creating this thread):
# Corey Brewer seemed to have gotten considerably worse this offseason, and I say that regretfully because I truly love the guy. The lankiest man on the court even had difficulty weaving through traffic — that is if he could get there. Brewer’s ball-handling skills are very bad; that’s about as simple as I could put it. Quite often does he try to drive to the hoop but is halted by either a traveling call of a defender’s hand sticking in there to swat it away from his grasp. Bad. As much as I love Brew, he could have trouble finding minutes this season, unless he drastically improves by the season opener.

Damn that sucks, and the write up about Love too. I guess we'll be able to see here in a few days.... I guess i'd be down anyway, I just see in a few years Beas at the 4 and Johnson at the 3.

It really depends on which guy and what's happening with the CBA. If there is a lockout and it does affect the upcoming draft like some experts are predicting, we might not get as good a guy with the pick as the one we're sending away (even with a pick in the 10-14 range).

I really hope not. Beasley is about 6'8" and 230 lbs. That's great size for the SF (about the same as Melo), but really undersized for the 4. Similarly, Wes is about 6'7" and 208 lbs (pretty much the same height and weight as Kobe). I think that their greatest potential is at the 3 and 2 respectively, even if Love isn't the one manning the 4.

I'd rather it be the 3 too, but many Heat fans told me he played his best basketball at the 4.

While that is true, I don't think you can ignore the financials of the deal. Brewer's cap hold will be over $3 million more than the cap hold for #11 will be. That gives us a little more wiggle room.

how much did they really get to see Beasley at the 3 as a primary offensive weapon though? He's not a spot up shooter, I can see him being a bad fit next to Wade as a SF.

I was at the scrimmage as well. While I don't think Brewer has gotten worse, I do think our roster has gotten better and we can afford to let him go. It appeared as though both KLove and Brew were disinterested in the scrimmage... B-Easy however was a character. I sat in seats that were courtside, in the corner next to the "black" teams bench and He, JFlynn and John Thomas were having a blast, clearly enjoying the experience... B-Easy will be a fan favorite as long as he continues to show the personality AND makes a higher percentage of his shots... Did kind of seem forced last night.

IMO, we shouldn't trade Brew for just our pick... Unless it's our last option. I believe he can be used as an "asset" along with our exception to get the "ONE"... Whoever that may be??!!

Corey Brewer doesn't have much trade value, especially to LAC.

He is not a difference maker that would make them a contender this year, so even if they wanted him, they'd keep the pick and make a high RFA offer for him next summer, and add him in 2011.

TBH, I'm pretty unimpressed with those scrimmage notes - sorry if that was written by someone here. the author is reading way way way too much into an unimportant scrimmage. And he is surprised that Wes got limited minutes? Seriuosly? The well-documented hamstring injury should be a good clue if you ask me. Overall, I say meh. Players were probably tired and didn't feel the need to risk injury in a scrimmage that didn't mean anything.

As to the trade proposal, I would rather just lose the pick to the Clips this year. If it is out of the top 10 during a work stoppage, it won't be worth much anyway. I'd rather lose it then than the following year when it is unprotected.

Umm.... that's exactly what Corey has done his entire career. Not sure how that makes him 'worse'.

Love and Darko were clearly spent during this scrimmage. Big guys can't run all day for 5 days like little guys. I wouldn't read too much in their performances.

Glad to hear Webster is putting the rookie in his place.

I'm not too concerned about it. Even if we don't have a pick in 2012, we could blow 3 million dollars on a late first round draft pick (and by we, I mean Taylor).

I figured this would be the case, but just wanted to make sure.

Rumor was Kahn tried to trade Brewer to move up in the draft (5-6 spots?) and found no takers.

That doesn't surprise me much that Brewer wasn't enough to trade up to 10 or 11. Should've made a move for Xavier Henry after acquiring Memphis pick in that Al Jefferson deal.
I bet it would've been possible to get Henry for their pick returned and Brewer considering how long it took them to even offer Henry the 120% rookie deal.

I sincerely hope we lose the pick this year. I really, really want a shot at Austin Rivers in the 2012 draft.

Wouldn't that mean we regressed? Unless Austin Rivers isn't a top 10 pick.

It's a lottery system.
