RGM Beasley "Grade the deal"

I did not see this discussed, but surprisingly, the RGM article brought some interesting points to the Beasley discussion.
http://timberwolves.realgm.com/articles ... y_ridnour/In a more nuanced way, I see a lot of similarities between Beasley and Chris Mullin. They are both incredibly pure scorers, lefties and Mullin nearly drank his way out of the NBA during the early part of his career. Beasley is a little bit bigger and a much better rebounder, but I think Beasley's game has the most upside if he plays similar to Mullin stylistically. This would mean he becomes more of a small forward, though he certainly is capable of playing the point forward hybrid we see from Lamar Odom in the Triangle.
Although any value in the Beasley portion is undone with the Ridnour ignorance.

I don't think it's ignorance. Ridnour did have an outlier season, he is older then the core of the team, the team did sign him with Sessions still on the roster, he is more of a pick and roll guard and the contract he got does raise questions about what they'll eventually do when Rubio comes over. In hindsight it's an awesome move but back when this article was written it was definitely a questionable move.

What hindsight? We're two games into the preseason.

Yeah, he has plenty of time yet to suck for the Wolves. It would be like judging Hollins on that small stretch of games in which he actually looked decent.

Yeah, but it only took two weeks for the homerism to set in.

I am not trying to react homeristic to the statement. My concern was how polarizing he was about the transaction. He only mentions the extreme negative without consideration to the reason behind the signing. What are the reasons why Ridnour would be a better pg then Sessions? Vet presence, defensive hustle, outside shooting, etc. Give a balance that questions the signing but gives a reason. A D+ grade is painful for it.

HA! True. My optimisim/homerism shines again.
I guess I should have said "so far it looks like a good signing"

I would like at least one established vet who actually logs minutes on the court, not vets whose purpose is to be a lockeroom presence.

The announcer said it perfectly.

I think Sessions is a very good player, look how he played with the Bucks and now the Cavs, he may be a better player than Ridnour. He just wasn't a good fit with our team/offense and was burried behind Flynn since the team was destined to suck so we couldn't afford NOT to play Flynn.

Beasley can play point forward? Isn't he required to actually pass? Right now I'd use him as a sixth man type, offensive duties guy for 25-30 mpg.

If Beasley improves his ball-handling and consistency, I could see him becoming like a Melo lite for the Twolves.

It's simply absurd to grade the Ridnour deal this soon. Give it half a season at least.
Beasley's ceiling is Melo+defense, not Melo lite.

I have to agree with Rev on this one. The Beasley article was very interesting, and gave me some reason to hope that our high-volume shooter actually has a chance to be an excellent player. The Ridnour article was a joke. Sessions was part of the problem last year (well-below-average defensively). To use a hockey term, Ridnour is a better two-way player.

Beasely could be like Mullin? No freakin' way. Chris Mullin was one of the smartest basketball players in the NBA when he played. Beasley is widely considered as one of the dumbest. Mullin was a threat as a scorer and a passer. Beasley is one-dimensional.
There's no comparison except for footspeed.

Here is what I think is the biggest plus of having Ridnour over Sessions
127-140, 90.7%
167-233, 71.7%
Free throws hurt our team numerous times last year, including a game or two where it came from the hand of Sessions.

Don't underestimate the ability to sign the newly free agent Luke Jackson, and reunite the Two Lukes. Much like Voltron, the combined entity is more powerful than its components.
That possibility alone is worth swapping Sessions for Ridnour.
