2011 Player Options: To Be or not To Be (excercised)

Post#1 » by younggunsmn » Tue Oct 19, 2010 6:40 pm

The deadline to excercise 3rd or 4th year options of rookie contracts I believe is Oct 31.
Here are the players the wolves have to make decisions on and their proposed salaries:

Michael Beasley (4th yr) $6,262,347
Kevin Love (4th) $4,609,701
Jonny Flynn (3rd) $3,414,720
Kosta Koufos (4th) $2,203,792
Wayne Ellington (3rd) $1,154,040

The first 3 are obvious no-brainers, and probably Ellington too.
Personally I think we should excercise Koufos's option too.
He's been pretty decent so far, and decent young 7-footers are hard to come by, even as bench fodder.

Our only restricted free agent will be Corey Brewer.
To retain RFA rights on him we will have give him a Qualifying Offer of $4,966,356.
Personally I think that is too much coin to pony up for a role player given our depth at that position and our best option might be to trade him at the deadline to a contender.

We should exercise them all.

I think we exercise them all except Koufos. Seems like a good big to have, but for the cost I could see us figuring we could get a similar project with our picks from the Jefferson trade.

I'd be a bit disappointed if it turns out we traded Al Jefferson for role players. :nonono:

I think they're all no-brainers except for Koufos. But as of now, I'd be leaning towards exercising his option too.

I'd like to see more of him before deciding though.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Seems like a wasted asset if you put it that way

Agreed, and we should exorcize Brewer.
