I was looking through old threads trying to find last year's fantasy basketball thread. On my way to finding them, I found these threads on possibly trading for Beasley. Just a reminder that the trade happened on July 8th.

What I thought was most interesting reading all those old threads was the thought, over and over, that "Beasley could be good IF he's a small forward." That's what we saw, and I don't think that's just because we had Al and Love on the roster for most of those threads. The most-used comparision I've seen on this board and elsewhere for Beasley is Carmelo Anthony, as pure a scoring 3 as there's ever been in the league.

The biggest question to me is why the man who drafted James Worthy, played all those classic series against Larry Bird and Scottie Pippen... why didn't Pat Riley recognize that Beasley should be a 3? Granted, they dumped Beasley to get a pretty good guy to play that spot, but that doesn't explain why Beasley wasn't playing there last year. Or the year before.

The Wolves (credit Kahn, Rozone or Rambis?) seemed to slot him there right away, and that's where we as fans wanted him. I wonder why Riley didn't do the same thing?

He struggled guarding the perimeter in Miami and thus far he hasn't shown much improvement. I've tempered my expectations with Beasley. I think we're going to have to be very patient this year with him with his first year in our system and playing the 3. Next year will be a fairer assessment.

I think Beasley will get treated like Love did last year with minutes played.

IMO, Beasley is best suited playing a PF in a open court running game when he can advantage of his superior quickness and atheltic ability and doesn't have to bang in the post all the time. When we run he looks good even at SF but when it comes down to slowing the tempo down and getting in our halfcourt sets and moving the ball around then Beasley is not at his best.

I think Miami fans were right about Beasley not being a good SF and the numbers proved that too. Heat fans had been watching him for 2 seasons and knew his game well and saw that Beasley doesn't have the quickness and dribbbling skills to beat perimeter defenders but he can beat PFs. They also saw that Beas doesn't have the foot speed to stay in front of speedy SFs.

Rambis should try Beasley in the role of back up 3/4 forward that has green light to score when he comes in the game. It's good that we got him for basically nothing but if we decide to trade him I don't think we'll get a good return for Beas.

You said it well. It's pretty basic, he's too small to play regularly at the 4, too slow to guard most 3's. He can be effective, but you gotta have the right matchup. His best role is off the bench, finding matchups in his favor, like sf's he can post up, PF's he can defend or just at Center if we wanna really go small and run. He needs to accept that he's not Carmelo, and when he figures out where he fits in the NBA , he can begin to mold and refine his game. He still doesn't know where he fits,
