Jonny Update

Also from this morning's shootaround at Staples Center:

Jonny Flynn said Ridnour's absence won't speed up his return from July hip surgery. He could be cleared to play as early as next week -- perhaps even that Sunday-Monday trip to Atlanta or Charlotte -- or it still could be another two weeks or more.

"I would want to come back and help my team knowing Luke won't be able to play, but I have to do the smartest thing and what's best for me and my body," he said. "We'll still take our time."

No rush, it's not like we're in the playoff hunt or anything.

We're bringing in Curtin Jerrells for a workout. He's a Baylor product.

Sounds quite a bit like a Jonny Flynn model, but presumably a bit less talented.

Yeah, we should take our time with Jonny, wait till he's %100. I really can't wait for his return though, I think he will show a lot of improvement this year.

I agree, but we need to be careful that we don't put the expectations high on him when he first comes back.

He will struggle for at least 5-10 games to get back within the rhythm of an NBA game and he will look slow and tired out there at times while he builds up his endurance. I expect him to look good after Christmas but to look rather flat and outmatched until then.

I'm not falling for it this year. I think if Jonny had another training camp/pre-season, he'd do great things. As the situation currently is, I expect him to play downright poorly until 2011, then he'll make gradual (but minimal) improvement like he did last year. It's a bummer, because if he had the surgery before training camp and just gave up on Summer League...I'd have him pegged for a monster improvement from last year. As it stands now, I think he'll get better, but the end product will only be worth 3 months of improvement opposed to maybe 8.

The Wolves will host former NBA players Trey Johnson (pictured), Sundiata Gaines, Curtis Jerrells and Aaron Miles prior to Wednesday's game against the Kings in Sacramento according to a league source. The Wolves would need to release a player currently on the roster to bring a new player in as they already have a league-maximum 15 players with Maurice Ager being the only player without a guaranteed contract. How can you release Mo? He's got a 100% shooting average from beyond half court...

Out of those guys I've always liked Trey Johnson, but he hasn't done anything outside of the D League, so I'll go with Jerrells. He's quick, can make shots and hopefully plays good defence if he's coming from the Spurs.

Gaines baby... he can win us games with crazy shots like in Utah.

Gaines or Jerrells for me as well. Jerrells can shoot so that can't hurt.

I'm not going to pretend to know which one of these guys is the best. Johnson was in Lakers camp so maybe he's got an edge for having at least a basic understanding of the offense.

Hopefully I eat my words but it's highly unlikely any of these guys help us more than anyone we have already. It will take longer for them to learn how to run the offense than it will Flynn to return.

Webster's experience will help us more than Jonny's return this year.

Look for the Wolves to sign Sundiata Gaines as another point guard to help fill the void until Luke Ridnour and Jonny Flynn come back. Sounds like he's the frontrunner from today's four-player workout in Sacramento.

“We’ve targeted you to play next Wednesday, right?” Kahn said. “I don’t want to put too much pressure on you for that, in case there’s a setback.”

“No, that’s all right,” Flynn answered.

“You feel comfortable with that?”

“That’s what we’re shooting for,” Flynn said in agreement.

Nice. Still though, I don't expect much from Jonny for the first month or so coming back.
