Feeling strangely fine about Telfair
I never thought I'd say this, but it is a real pleasure to watch Sebastian Telfair in a Wolves uniform. These last few games he has played within himself, made big shots and then run the offense without getting trigger happy. It looks like he is fitting in well with the team and building some serious chemistry.
When Jonny Flynn comes back do we sit Ridnour on the bench in street clothes??

Sebastian Telfair is playing to be picked up by a contender after the season. No wonder he plays better than the last couple seasons.

Re: Feeling strangely fine about Telfair
Agreed.
Gets up the court very well, handles the ball decently and can shoot the odd 3-ball/mid range jumper. Very quick too which always comes in handy for fast breaks. I think he's finally matured into a good NBA basketballer, he used to be a bit of a head case but now he's settled down. I've been very impressed.
Ridnour has had one good game so far, the season opener vs. the Kings. Apart from that he hasn't played half as well as he did in Pre-Season. It'll be tough on Telfair to slice his minutes when Flynn gets fit. Always think that the in-form player should get the nod though and hopefully this will be the outcome.

Re: Feeling strangely fine about Telfair
I really am not sure what to do about the Telfair/Ridnour minute issue. I really believe that Ridnour will be better the majority of the season and I'd hate it if we signed him to that deal just to have Telfair outplay him.
We should at least wait until we see how Ridnour plays when his injury has healed because those first two games he was pretty solid and then when the injury hit he became a problem.

Every time I get my hopes up with Bassy he finds ways to disappoint me again. So I'll remain fairly pessimistic with him.

Telfair is on his way to winning the backup PG job. I think Flynn will eventually be traded.

I'd pick him over Luke anyday of the week.

Re: Feeling strangely fine about Telfair
Historically Luke has been a better shooter and finisher than Telfair, however I think Telfair has always been a better passer, even though he might not have big assist numbers he's made some pretty passes over the years. Not sure what happens though when everyone is healthy as I still think Flynn has good upside and a better compliment to Rubio as he brings a different skill set to the table. I think we just ride the hot hand for now and see what interest there is. If Telfair keeps his level of play consistent, then we've got a good problem on our hand.
Agree with basti though.

We're invested in Luke and Jonny. I think Telfair's going to have to play out of his mind to keep his minutes.

Re: Feeling strangely fine about Telfair
He's been scoring decently , but he hasn't been playing the best of his career. The first season he was with the Wolves was his best(the Wittman saga). He was setting up people left and right and getting six assists a night with less options and the team was fun to watch. That will probably come back once he gets more comfortable.

Re: Feeling strangely fine about Telfair
I'd laugh if Telfair came out of this season as the best point guard on the team, but I wouldn't be surprised. If he continues to make shots, and his jump shot is probably thanks to the coaching staff, play hustling defence and make the right plays within the offence then I'm fine with keeping him around.

Re: Feeling strangely fine about Telfair
I never hated the guy, I enjoyed seeing him do well but, I think when Flynn is back and Luke Rid is healthy, his minutes will go down. He will still get burn but Luke is going to be the better player over the course of the year.

Re: Feeling strangely fine about Telfair
this is really pessimistic of me I feel, but I assume he's on a temporary hot streak. Track record is as a sub 40% shooter and 30% from 3, so far he's at 45% and 38% from 3, not sure I can buy that he's going to maintain that. Nothing else is impressive, 1.8 to 1 assist to TO ratio is pretty bad, loses his handle a lot (getting ripped by Scola at midcourt will stick in my mind for awhile), can't really finish inside. Meh.
Seems like he wants to be a leader and he tries hard, thats all you can ask for I guess at the NBA bargain salary that he's at.

Re: Feeling strangely fine about Telfair
We are likely making a package trade Dec/Jan. Bassy playing well increases his value. Nothing but good can come from that.

Telfair was looking like Terrell Brandon out there with all the stopping and the popping.

Re: Feeling strangely fine about Telfair
I just want to go back to the name of this post: It is odd to be this okay with Bassy on the floor. He has performed well. He still doesn't look like a starting point guard, but to me he has looked like more than a competent backup. The question is when does that fade away?
I'd say that I'm feeling strangely fine about Telfair right now. A few years ago I was just so happy to see him go. If he really wanted to win me over though he would pull off the spin-pass he made in that documentary that was made about him when he came out of high school!

Bassy is fine as long as his shots are going in.
