Beasley: "I want to take that shot"

Post#1 » by Klomp » Wed Nov 17, 2010 7:23 am

I love this!
Beasley and 22-year-old rebounding machine Kevin Love are emerging as a formidable duo that the Wolves hope to build around for years to come. The youngest team in the league still hasn't established a pecking order for the fourth quarter, but Beasley is moving toward asserting himself as that guy.

"I would love for it to be me," he said. "I want to take that shot. I work every day for that shot. I shoot that shot a million times. I dream about that shot every night. I would love for it to be me. If it's not, I'm not mad. I just want to get the win. I would love to be that go-to guy. I would love to be the guy that carries that team."

I was a skeptic, but damn I love this. I thought he'd be sluggish/play when he wanted to kind of guy. The guy hustles, plays better defense than I thought. I think we found our guy to build around now. Go read the Miami board. They be talkin.

Absolute steal of a trade.

I wonder, if this team won 30 games and Beasley won MIP or Love got an All Star spot or something like that, would Kahn be in the running for executive of the year?

I don't know how much credit Kahn can get for Love's performance, I guess trading Jefferson to give him the starting spot makes a difference, though.

Maybe if Darko keeps blocking shots at the rate that he is and brings his offense around and Beasley wins MIP.

I went back and read some threads from the days following the trade. This was my favorite.

Calinks wrote:I really wish Beasley could play SF but right now I don't think he can very well. Maybe when he's around 25 or so that wont be an issue. Either way, it's nice to have a player who can turn into a prolific scorer for us. Since we are getting rid of Al Jefferson we need people that can potentially put up a 22+ point game. Right now I don't think we have anybody. Love is the closest.Everybody else can barely crack 16 on a good night.

Boy you sure called that first part, Calinks

Beasley goes to sleep and dreams fantasies of having to take the last shot. Some players go to sleep and have nightmares about the same thing.

It was clear he was disappointed in himself after the Bobcats games with those late turnovers, and I like the way he handled himself. He could have complained about about foul calls, about Wallace landing on top of him. But he put the onus on himself and took responsibility... I didn't know his son was born just before he scored 42 against the Kings. What a day.

Wow, he keeps impressing me! The most impressing thing is his attitude! I think he may have rediscovered his love for basketball.

Just a second round pick right?

2 2nd round picks but that's still a laughable price for him now.

David Kahn looks like a genius on that move. I still can't believe that the nobody wanted this guy/was able to deliver more than salary + 2nd round picks. Salary was probably the most important thing for the Heat back then but come on there should've been a better offer (with no salary coming back).

I agree. Personally I'm not a fan of David Kahn. I agree with his general direction, but I don't think he's used his assets to their maximum value. However, he certainly did in this case, and I think he deserves extra credit for two things:

1. Supposedly he was one of the first to say he'd "trade" Beasley for cap space. Its an obvious offer, but by being pro-active, he allowed the Heat to negotiate with LeBron and Bosh knowing that they had that deal in their back pocket, and they could bring them both in financially.

2. As desperate as MIN is for the chance at a star, I also give credit to Kahn for holding fast to the seconds. Now, keep in mind that 2nds carry no guaranteed salary, which was crucial for MIA's cap space plans, but neither does a future 1st. I'm sure MIA would have floated the idea of getting more in a future assets, but to hold firm and get him at this price, Kahn deserves kudos.

Time for me to admit I was wrong on Beasley. I was skeptical of bringing him in here thinking he would have a bad attitude. On the contrary, he seems to be a good teammate and is performing on the court. For Thanksgiving, I'm skipping turkey and instead I'm having some crow.

Yeah, I was also wrong on Beasley. I was really worried about him being a knucklehead, but he's been a breath of fresh air attitude-wise and leadership-wise. And he's meeting or beating my basketball production expectations too.

I've bumped heads with the posters on official miami heat forum for not utilizing beasley's skills during his tenure with the heat. everybody in that forum, except for a couple of hardcore beasley fans such as myself, had said that beasley is a complete bust that is in the olowakandi range. i guess those fans were not satisfied with 14 pt, 6 rebound season avg for beasley who was the 3rd option on that team, played less than 30 minutes per game, and was greatly misused and only had 2 plays for him in heat playbook. 2.

Now that he's given a chance here in Minny, his game is starting to flourish again. I'm seeing that old beast from KSU although he doesn't post up as much as he used to in college. He has lost weight to have an SF body, but if he starts posting up smaller SF, his game will open up more.

Oh and another thing, there are other teams that wanted him. Toronto could have gotten him actually but Khan entered the scene and proposed 2 second round draft pick. The timing was perfect because Lakers offered Miller to a contract, in which Riley panicked and had no choice but to get second round picks for Beasley in order to secure Mike Miller to heat.

Also, I warned Minny fans about Beasley's attitude "problem" which is laughable because these were Beasley's "problems" according to heat staff and fans:

1.) Beasley collects spongebob squarepants DVDs and gear. Who cares, seriously? How is that a problem, because it's a cartoon? When Beasley joined the heat, he wasn't even legal to drink. He was only 18 or 19 years old. Hell, I watch spongebob with my daughter

2.) A headcase, they said. The only headcase problem that surfaced was that twitter pic of Beasley with weed on the bottom right side of pics. Take not that it wasn't his place and he just got a tattoo and took a pic for twitter. The place was the tattoo parlor. Granted, it could be his, but who most teenagers smoke weed. 8-)

3.) He likes to clown around and make jokes with the team. I'd rather have a fun guy in my team than someone who is dead serious all the time.

So yeah, those were Beasley's "problems" according to heat. Ridiculous claim, in my opinion.
