Interesting read @ Heat forum concerning Beasley
For those that are interested to read what Heat fans about this player who they used to call "Bustley", here's the link viewtopic.php?f=20&t=1062630
Again, I would like to thank Riley and Spo for misusing Beasley thus lowering his trade value. Beasley is having fun and a great fit to Minny.
P.S. - Someone mentioned that if Beasley had been used like this in Heat, they could've gotten 1st round picks + rubio lol (read page 6)

Makes me wonder how great a player Dwayne Wade truely is..Ive always thought a great player makes his teammates better, but look at Beasley..The kid has made on of the biggest turnarounds Ive ever seen. Then there's also Dorell Wright playing well for Golden State.

Dorrell Wright played very well last year as well posting very similar per36 numbers (less 3s made, but that´s because he only last year started taking those), simply never got the minutes.
Beasley is not a player that you can really "make better" as a Dwyane Wade, at least not if you are a ballhandler. Scorers that dominate the ball almost never make other scorers better, just doesn´t work that way. Shooters ? Yes. Scorers ? Not really.
That´s why it´s so rare to have 2 or 3 legitimate scorers on the same team (and why so many years ago the 6th role man was born), especially if it´s perimeter scorers.

This just goes to show how important the situation i.e. environment is for players, especially young ones. People forget that young guys, no matter how talented, need to fail on the court in order to succeed.

Miami is the worst franchise in the league at developing talent. Beasley and Chalmers are perfect examples. They just can't deal with anyone that isn't a veteran, it's sad.
Sorry Dexter Pittman, but your fate as the next Eddy Curry is practically sealed while you're in Miami.

Part of me also wonders if this is the type of situation where Michael excels in. To be the main guy, maybe he's not good at the other things to be a second banana. It's something to consider, because obviously so far Beasley has shown he can be a #1 but we'll have to see what things look like once his shot goes on a cold streak.

Re: Interesting read @ Heat forum concerning Beasley
The Miami Heat organization has a very strict and focused culture that doesn't cater to your typical rookie. Michael Beasley was exactly the type that wasn't going to fit perfectly into the system. The Heat organization is like the military - professional, focused, and strict. Riley loves hardworking hustle defensive players such as undrafted Udonis Haslem and also picked up Bruce Bowen (undrafted) as well. Immature players are not for Miami. It's either make it through the military or go home. Miami is not good at developing these types of players. Players with a chip on their shoulder and undrafted underdogs thrive under Pat Riley. Dwyane Wade was such a type.
Players coming out of Miami didn't develop so quickly, but their success was probably because of their tenure in Miami. Miami's system of development works, but it just doesn't show under the Heat. If Beasley didn't go to the Heat, he likely would be a much more immature player still with far less defensive fundamentals and commitment to the game. Same with Dorell Wright. Wright was an atrocious high school defender when he came in, and now is blossoming in Golden State as a defensive juggernaut. Other teams love players dedicated to winning which is a value Miami really embeds into their players. Teams such as the Clippers lack this.
Why did Beasley do poorly in Miami? Miami was Dwyane Wade's city, his offense, his team. The Heat poorly utilized Beasley by handing him the ball usually around the elbow at a long midrange shot distance where he had to create by himself. From this position, as a rookie, he shot most of those shots and made a good percentage (around 48% which is excellent because most were contested) but never took it to the rim. Beasley was always a finesse jumpshot player which didn't mesh well with Wade's game. The next season, Beasley was much better, but his confidence in his jumpshot faltered and had less offensive productivity, though he played on the inside more.
Beasley works best as the #1 option on a team where he is free to do many things. In Miami, the system is crucial and highly valued. Beasley had to think about doing so many things on defense, where to go on offense etc. His joking nature which makes him seem unfocused and cancerous really hurt his image.

Re: Interesting read @ Heat forum concerning Beasley
I have seen several people write that the TWolves really benefitted from Beasley's time in Miami. I think this is true. He learned about how emotional leadership works playing with Wade; he kept in great shape and built good work habits under Riley; he wasn't allowed to be the number one scorer and didn't fit the rigorous culture there, which makes him more excited to be a number one in our player-friendly culture here. The list goes on and on. I love it.

I'm interested to see what happens then too, but it's ridiculous how easily he can get his jump shot off.

Beasley's potential starts and ends with being a ball dominant iso scorer and Miami already had a better one. Its the one player type you don't really improve by having more than one of. Its like the AI/Carmelo days in Denver, and kinda why I don't like Miami taking Bosh instead of Amar'e, who's a much more dangerous offensive player off the ball and could have been lethal making teams try to defend a pnr

Im glad beasley is fitting well, we all knew he had it in him and we saw flashes of it. Point is he needed to go somewhere where he could become a star, in miami he was always behind wade and never given the chance. I wish him and you all the best the rest of the season.

In the west I like you guys, you have a good center and beasley who I really like so I root for this team when they don't play mine. Most impresive part about beasley is that he is only 22, you know he will get better which is scary. I can see him and durant going at it in a couple years.

This is where they fail utilizing Beasley. They never allowed Beasley during games to try to figure it out and correct his mistakes. It was once he made a mistake they sat him. Spoelstra has not developed the skills of managing personalities and players on the court. Heis learning while on the job, and unfortunately Beasley was being hurt by that. Riley really liked Beasley and was exploring every possibility in keeping Beasley. But when Wade told Riley that James and Bosh will take less money to keep Haslem along with all the media attention Beasley will have to handle then he knew that it was time to let him go. Exactly the way the Wolves are using him is the way Riles envisioned, a great combo scoring forward. Riley has had a history of aquiring big small forward who can play powerforward, Charles Smith, Lamar Odom, Anthony Mason, Antoine Walker. Its sad instead of trading Beasley to get role players to fill out the roster, and then we kept Joel Anthony ewwwwwwwwwwww.

The way that roster was built (with Haslem and Jermaine O'Neal) I was surprised Beasley didn't play the 3 more, but you make an interesting point about Riley and combo forwards. Maybe the Heat of 2009-10 needed his rebounding more than his scoring? It's confusing to me how Riley of all people let Beasley go.

Need size to beat Boston and Orlando, though. Quality size would be better of course, but Anthony has some upside, right?

The whole project that Riles had for Beasley was to become that third go too peice or if everything went perfect that forth go too player (which almost happened) after this big free agency summer. Riley was confident that he was getting Stoudamire or Bosh, and Beasley will swing between SF and PF to play along with Bosh or Stoudamire. They were working with Beasley every summer teaching him the SF position running screens handling the ball etc.. When the dream of getting the big three started to become reality, ideally Beasley was going to be that fourth go too scorer off the bench who can play PF with Lebron on the court or play SF with Bosh on the court. But again the proposal by Wade that the Big Three will take a lot less money in order to keep Haslem made them reevaluate the idea of using Beasley and they had to do it in a hurry. With Haslem, Beasley minutes at PF would of been zilch. So they looked at the possibility of acuiring a verstatile swing player who can be a big time scorer at the 2 and 3, which became Mike Miller. Mike Miller who is an former college teammate and good friend of Halsem would be a player who is professionally ready to handle that role and can handle the media attention. So if Wade can keep his promise of the big three taking less, Haslem can promise that Mike will come here (which he did turned down more money from the Lakers to come here). Moving Beasley would give us two keepers to the roster instead of just one in Beasley.
Why did we get nothing much from him? With all eyes on the Heat. Teams knew that Miami were not in good position to negotiate and that they were on a short time frame to get something done. (remember Chicago didnt get nothing for Kirk Hinrich and a first rounder). Teams were unwilling to help Riley plan, because of the fear that they would help create an unbeatable team. Imagine if we were able to get one more legit starter in trading Beasley. The Heat comprimised, if they are going with Haslem and Miller than lets not procrasinate and let him go.
Many fans and media do not understand that Riley has allowed Spo imprint his image on this team. Many feel everything is of Riley beliefs. Spo has many of Riley philosphy mixed with his own philosphy as well. Joel Anthony was a Spoelsta referral, Riley put trust in coach Spo. Riley believes in a offense built around a low post offense, Spo believes in a offense built around the high pick and roll. Riley believes in defending with height, length and muscle on the inside, Spo believes in defending the perimeter with quickness and length mainly to stop other teams pick and roll. Riley is evaluating Spo, trying to decide when to allow Spo be himself and when he needs to enforce in his influence. Which is the job of any manager, and Riley is trying to manage the situation. Riley is trying to build a team and build a coach at the same time.
Yes we need quality size, and I seen that Joel didnt have great potential. And the experiment has just failed. There was a lil hope that he will show some potential so atleast he will have trade value. But he has shown absolutely nothing to hang you hat on not even shot blocking.

I don't know... no disrespect twix, but it looks like revisionist history to me. All that explains why Beas had to go last summer, not why he didn't succeed last year in Miami. And he has looked like a different guy - maybe a combination of his own maturation and the fact he's getting to the Minnesota's #1 offensive option, instead of playing off Wade in Miami. But Mike Miller (who's hurt, again) is who we thought he was - a better player on paper than on the court.
The main reason I don't buy all the reasoning after the fact is that Riley has, over and over, made chicken salad from chicken s**t - created a title team out of Wade, O'Neal and veteran castoffs, reinvented his style not once but twice (Showtime then the tough-guy Knicks.) How could he not recognize what to me looks like a relatively simple fact - Beasley will have his most success at the 3? If he'd played there all along he'd have had more trade value, right?

Re: Interesting read @ Heat forum concerning Beasley
I hear you Trent, but remember Riley is not the coach anymore. He is providing the vision and the tools. But he is no longer doing the x's and o's. I never considered Beasley a failure, I felt that he was going through his growing pains. A lot of the Beasley critics had extreme expectations of him (Lebron and Durant expectations), and anything less was a bust. The way that Spo manage Beasley left him open to critics. Spo never allowed him to make up for his mistakes, when Beasley was struggling, he was quickly benched. So if he started off bad, likely he finished bad because he was sitting on the bench. Beasley started the preseason at the small forward position, he still wasnt ready. Beasley current success is all related to new enviroment, maturity and oppurtunity.
