Agree after Mayo, disagree giving up Flynn. They locked up Conley anyway.

Mayo dropped from Grizzlies' starting lineup

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — O.J. Mayo was dropped from the Memphis Grizzlies' starting lineup against Detroit on Wednesday night, the second straight game the guard has opened on the bench.

After starting his first 177 games in the NBA, Mayo was held out of the starting lineup Saturday night in the Grizzlies' victory over the Miami Heat because he was late for the team's shootaround that day.

Rookie guard Xavier Henry started in Mayo's place again against Detroit.

Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said he was looking for more offensive punch from his second unit.

"I've been thinking about it since before training camp. 'How we could make our team better? And how we could balance our lineup?' Hollins said. "I just felt like we weren't getting anybody on the bench who was a true, pure scorer."

I Mayo better than Johnson or Webster? I'm not sure. . .

If we can get him cheap, why not, but I don't think anyone is going to give much up for Mayo at this point. His defense is terrible and he can't create very well. He's Ben Gordon, but a slightly worse shooter, with worse defense. His athleticism and size are limited so i think he is what he is at this point.

The max I'd offer the Memphis pick, the Utah pick, and either Ellington or Brewer.

Haven't seen enough of Flynn. He had one year learning the triangle and man to man, and playing with a bad hip on a terrible team. Trading him now could come back to haunt us.

Where do you want to play him? Who's spot he takes? I find him too small to be a good defender at SG.

He fits the perfect mold for what Kahn wants on this team.... and Websters health scares me. I think he's worth a gamble, depending on what you have to give up. Agree with pinsky.

How so? He's not long, athletic, good at D, or filled with upside like the rest of Kahn acquisitions.

Darko/Pek
Love/Tolliver
Beasley/Johnson
Mayo/Johnson
Rubio/Flynn

(assuming we have to trade Brewer)

That's one hell of a squad loaded with talent. We would absolutely suck on defense, despite Darko & Rubio. Would still pull the trigger on a deal involving one of our firsts (UTA-MEM) with young prospect (Kosta, Brew, Ellington).

EDIT: Maybe we can get involved in a 3-way deal and try to get a better SG (defender) at the deadline when more players become available. Only thing is that there aren't too many to choose from out there. Only SG that comes to mind that will be available other than Mayo is Iggy and I haven't watched too much Iggy this year so I'm not sure how his defense is.

Not filled with upside? He just turned 23 and was once regarded to be the next Kobe.... to me that fits the upside part a lot.

He doesn't have a lot of upside. He's limited by his size, lateral quickness, and athletic ability.

Mayo seems like a perfect player for Flip, Mayo's combination of jump shooting and passing ability would really complement Flips offense. Maybe there's some three way trade involving Washington possible...

MN Out: Flynn, Ellington, Koufos
MN In: Hinrich

Memphis Out: Mayo, Thabeet
Memphis In: Flynn, Ellington, Koufos

Wash Out: Hinrich
Wash In: Mayo, Thabeet

The wolves need more veteran leadership, Hinrich also improves the defense either both point guard or shooting guard, depending on where the wolves need him. Of course, I haven't actually seen him play in a while...

I agree. He's scored 4.7 PPG in his last three games. His FG% this year is 38.7%.

I'm not sure what the price would be, but he's a free agent soon, and of course, he'd get a paid with a new contract at the same time we need to pay Love and Beasley.

I think most of his value has been high-level hype.

The whole vet leadership is complete bull and is useless. Why trade our young PG of future for a guard who is in his 8th year and is almost 30? I'd rather get a first round pick + young prospect than Kirk. But then you add some of our young prospects with him?

We need more of vet leadership right? So lets ship out Beasley for Ron Artest. Definitely improves our defense, provides leadership, familiar with the offense, and is a NBA Champion.

Holey crapoley man drug. That's one of the worst MN trades i've seen in a long time. At least since Klomp's trade board Eddy Curry fiasco.

i actually agree with your overall point but i don't see how anyone can watch a lot of basketball for prolonged years, and not notice the fact that teams with solid, character veterans ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS maximize the talent of their prospects. Young NBA players are some of the hardest to deal with individuals on the planet as far as ridiculous emotions go, they're ridiculously prideful and unable to accept failure (and if they're not it hurts their draft stock). It definitely is a giant help to have people around who know what it takes to have an nba career and honestly that seems like a ridiculous thing to argue against.
