Beas Potential

G MIN PPG RPG APG OFF DEF TOT AST STL BLK TO PF
M.Beasley 20 670 22.0 6.0 1.5 35 85 120 30 17 16 59 72
K.Love 22 762 20.1 15.5 2.1 106 236 342 47 11 11 53 48

Was just looking at the recent team stats ... I didn't intend to compare Love and Beas, but left Love in here because I didn't realize Love had a 20-15 going.

Anyway, my conclusion is Beasley needs to put more value on other parts of his game - specifically, assists. We know he can score, but he's inconsistent in how he gets himself involved in the game ... I believe he needs to see the floor better and act more as a catalyst to help get everyone involved, then identify stages throughout the game where he can give his team a lift. He could be a much more efficient player.

At this point I'm fine with him just scoring. As long as he's not forcing it, which he doesn't seem to, then the team is fine without him having to focus more on passing.

What I'd rather see from him is more offensive variety. Right now he's a little predictable, if he could learn to throw in a post up from time to time or maybe come off a curl or two I think he'd be even more dangerous then he is now.

The guy has started exactly 20 games at SF in his NBA career. Fans need to give him some time to get used to scoring and defending as a wing player before we start to demand that he becomes an elite all-around wing player.

I think he can become more involved by:
-Getting to the free throw line & make his free throws (too many misses from the line).
-Fouls- Needs to learn to stay out of foul trouble early in games ( even if its giving up a basket) I think Jim Pete covered this a little during the OKC

Yep, he's definitely got things to work on, and he knows that and the coaching staff knows that. However he's only 21 years old and he's only been playing SF for 20 games. Five years from now he COULD be scary good. If Beas and Love had stayed in school, they wouldn't have even graduated yet, they'd be seniors this year...also it's weird to think I'm the same year as they would be and they're big time NBA players and I'm...well I'm me.

Adjusting to a new position in a new scheme can be difficult for a young player. To me, Beasley has shown a lot of potential to be doing this well this quickly. When the season started, I was a little worried, cause he looked lost out there (and sometimes still does) but he's coming around. I think once everyone involved gets comfortable with the offense, it'll make it easier for him to be more of a playmaker than just sheer scorer.

Those are the two things I'd like to see him improve. I think it comes down to mental consistency with him. He plays focused, elite-level ball one minute, then throws the ball into the stands or misses both freethrows the next. If he can learn to play focused all the time, other things that have been mentioned will come. I do have to say that he is way farther along than I thought he would be at this point in the season so I'm not really concerned.

Everybody knows what he needs to work on. He's 21 and coming off two seasons where he was used as a spot up shooter. Funny how quickly people can swing from 'Oh my god we got such a steal with Beasley', to 'why can't Beasley do this?' We can't expect him to be the perfect player and answer to all our prayers.

I agree, the biggest thing he needs to work on is consistency. It seems that sometimes when his shot isn't going down, he just loses focus.

He of course needs to work on being a better all around player, but he's 21 and has only been a SF for a couple months. I don't think he'll ever be a great defender, passer or ball handler but he certainly can become better in these areas and also become a more efficient scorer, i.e. get to the line.

I'd also like him to score a bit more in the flow of the offense. Alot of the time it seems like the ball sticks to his hands when he gets it and it hurts ball movement. They may be by design though.

With his athleticism, reach and lateral movement, he has the potential to be an excellent defender. This isn't really a part of his game yet, but this os one of the things about his being so young. There are things he can learn that people aren't even thinking about right now.

Our best player with the most distance to his potential. I'm really excited about his future and think he will be on Melo's level if we keep him at SF for a couple years.

If we traded Beasley tomorrow for anything other than another 21 year old potential multiple all star I'd probably break down and cry

my point is, (and it seems like a lot of fans from other teams are starting to take notice) we may be one of the most enjoyable sub 30 teams ever. A lot of that has to do with how far we could one day go.

What separates this team from years past is the others ones were hastily put together, no real plan and nothing indicating that if you cryogenically froze yourself an unthawed in 5 years you'd see an on court product that was any better.

A bigggg part of that is Beasley, I seriously have high hopes for this team with Beasley
(and to a lesser extent Darko, I know I bring him up wayyyyyyyy too much but have you seen this guy handle the ball, like post whistles and stuff he pulls off little and 1 through the legs moves with a look of boredom that you know means he can do it with ease)

I see him as a Melo Anthony type without the post moves.

Wait a second...this sounds a bit like a description of Kevin Durant a few years back. OK, I'm sold.

I don't think he hurts ball movement that much. He sometimes does it, but overall he's very willing to pass it if there's nothing there. This was actually what's impressed me most as I was worried he might come here and become another Crawford.

I think why it looks like he does is because of all the ISOs they call for him. Especially early in the game, the most often play I've seen them run is a simple hand off to Beasley from the point and everyone else clear out.

Still astonishing that you guys got a former 2nd pick with big potential and didn't give up anything in return. Minnesota really made a nice profit from the 2010 FA bonanza.

That being said, whenever I think of Beasley I see a guy that is never gonna reach his potential. Don't get me wrong, he will be a good player, a fringe all-star type of player or even an all-star one day and he'll probably average 25/7 in his prime but for some reason I don't think he'll ever develop into a really good allround player. I think he'll be like a poor mans Carmelo Anthony. Don't ask me why, I can't point to this or that, it's just a general feeling that I get whenever I see him play or hear something about him---I just don't think he'll be a 100% commited pro that brings the type of work ethic and consistency that you need to not just be very good , but to really excel in the NBA.
Still a very good pickup and much needed talent boost for you guys and definitely one of the bigger steals in recent memory.

25/7 is more than just a poor man's Carmelo.

He's already averaging 21.5 and 6...
