OJ Mayo?

Post#1 » by Torcher » Sun Dec 12, 2010 4:36 am

Rumors are Mayo is going to be traded... so why can't we pick him up? He can score and defend. (A perk we need) I'm not really sure who would we trade for though. Perhaps something like this?

MIN GIVES-Ridnour, Johnson, plus cash.
MIN Gets-Mayo.

So our lineup would be. (If Flynn and Webster get healthy)
PG-Flynn/Telfair
SG-Mayo/Webster
SF-Beasely/Brewer
PF-Love/Beasely
C-Darko/Pek/Koufos

What do you think?

PS-It would also be a 2008 draft reunion. (Mayo, Beasely, Love, and Pekovic)

Mayo isn't close to worth that much.

Absolutely not. That is a terrible trade.

Or we can do Ridnour, picks, and cash.

Unless we can get him without giving up basically anything, I wouldn't do it. We need to relax and just roll with what we have. Let them develop. They are young and I like their current chemistry. Only make a trade if it significantly improves the team.

I understand the capspace issue, but I believe that will be addressed closer to the deadline.

I'm kind of 50-50 on Mayo. On the one hand, if he gets out of this funk his offence could really help a team that struggles, at times, to get things going. On the other hand, is his defence going to be a liability? And what exactly put him in this funk to start with?

I think he's worth a look though. According to draftexpress he was a good defender in his rookie year, so I don't think he'll be a total liability when motivated, and his ability to create is something the team could use. I'd wait until Webster is back though and we have a better idea of what the team, when healthy, needs.

The Grizz don't want nor need a PG, they're set with Conley-Vasquez.
And if you include a wing it should be a good 3pt shooter like Ellington, not Brewer.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

The only reason I'm not quick to move on Mayo is the fact that we paid big (picks # 4 and 17) for Wes Johnson and Martell Webster this summer and we haven't even given them a season to play the 2 guard for us. Also, we get a look at Ellington for free.

Sit it out unless all they want back is there own pick

Ellington and their pick returned is about as high as I'd go for an offer.

Really? I'd give them Brewer, if only to ease the log jam Mayo would create.

Brewer + Ellington + pick(s) for Mayo

Darko/Pek
Love/Tolliver
Beasley/Johnson
Mayo/Webster
Rubio/Flynn

That's one stacked team of talent

Now the thing is what do you fans want, would you rather have Iggy, Mayo, or neither?

Iggy is a better at everything except shooting, so I'd take him extremely easily.

If there were no other circumstances? Iggy. If they can be had for scraps? Probably Iggy too.

But I don't think Philly will give him up for nothing. He's clearly one of the only bright spots on that team and I'd think they'd want to exhaust all of their options, like moving Brand and Iggy together, before they trade Iggy alone. And I really don't want to give up anything of great value for him, just because I think he's a prime candidate for a massive drop off physically, he's overpaid and he's old enough to be leaving his prime when the rest of the guys, like Love and Rubio, are entering theirs'

A question for people that want Mayo: You do realize that either means more minutes for Beasley at pf or less minutes for Webster or Johnson (and eventually Flynn when Rubio comes), right?

I like Beasley at sf and want to see Webster and Johnson get lots of minutes. That's why I'd prefer going after Randolph.

I would think it went without saying, but I would wait to make a decision until I see how Webster performs at SG.

But minutes are going to be an issue after acquiring any of them, even if we send one or two players away in a trade. Mayo or Iggy would take the bulk of the SG minutes, leaving whoever is left of Wes/Webster/Brewer/Wayne to get the remainder of the SG/SF minutes (maybe 20-25 minutes). Randolph would be competing with Tolliver/Webster/Wes/Brewer for scraps of time in the frontcourt.

Agreed

Focus on established talent. Next year we got Beas, K-Love, and Rubio (theoretically). We can compete as early as next year. Get the ball rolling already.

Iggy is way, way, way worse in salary.
