Orlando adds a ton of offensive firepower with arenas and richardson, but significantly downgrades its defense by moving pietrus and gortat. Arenas and Richardson on Wade and Lebron will not be very pretty. It will be interesting to see how much turkoglu and daniel orton play now, as orton becomes the only true backup to dwight.
For Phoenix, they basically swap j-rich for carter and turkoglu for gortat, and eat 5 million of 2011 cap space while freeing up 4.6 million in 2012 and 4.3 million in 2013. Adding Gortat helps their D quite a bit, takes pressure off of robin lopez and allows frye to play his natural PF full time. Having Pietrus for 2011 might actually make sense for them.

Wow.
Unless Hedo somehow miraculously returns to his old form with the Magic, I can't help but feel that the Magic are shooting themselves in the foot by shaking up this much all at once. We'll see, I guess, but it is surprising to see an elite team make this many changes.
I think Phoenix gets better instantly, so I guess they are making one more push.
Interesting stuff.

its an upgrade, Jrich clearly better than Vince at this point. Orlando wants Bass to start and Rashard can't play SF anymore, Hedo can (in theory)

I wonder if this means a Nelson trade might be coming too?

I think Nelson will be the 6th man.

I don't see Howard re-upping with Orlando after this.
Dwight on the wolves?
One can dream

Canis says they're working on another trade.
And there's a third trade reportedly in discussion that would send Jameer Nelson, Ryan Anderson and/or JJ Redick to the Bobcats for Stephen Jackson and/or Tyrus Thomas
Don't know where he got that since I can't find anything about it, but that might balance out the team a little more. Thomas with Van Gundy could be a mess though.

SVG was on NBA TV earlier and said that both Nelson and Arenas will be starters.
Either Richardson or Turkoglu are going off the bench.

Yeah, I think the Magic just got worse. JRich is the only player there that makes any sense for them. Turkoglu, ugh. Arenas, I'm screaming for the door. That team looked so good getting to the Finals and hasn't made much sense since.
Phx, well, they got rid of Turkoglu's hideous contract. good move for their part. Pietrus also makes a lot of sense for them. I wonder what the thought process was in Orlando...

Howard
Bass
Jackson or Hedo
J Richardson
Arenas
That's an intimidating team right there. Jackson + JRich bring that fire power from their GSW days, not sure how Arenas will be, I assume playing with Dwight, he'll be way better. Definitely an upgrade over Nelson. Bass very solid player.
They have a solid 6th man too, Jackson or Hedo.
Will be interesting if they can pull off that Bobcats trade. It will definitely be interesting to see how it works out either way. I'll actually watch some Magic games more instead of being bored to death watching Lewis fail & Carter being hurt or chucking away.
All I can say is that if it doesn't work out, Dwight will probably bounce in 2012.

It just looks like Orlando has even less cap flexibility now and are stuck in that situation for even longer now. If it doesnt work out, and i dont think it will since that team is not better than Boston, I cant see Dwight sticking around a franchise thats going to be stuck in mediocrity.

That Bobcats trade, if Thomas is included, would be a big help to balance their roster. As of now their back up bigs are who? Andersen, Clark, and Orton?

I like the trades for Orlando. Arenas and Richardson aren't going to disappear in the playoffs like Vince, Lewis, and Nelson did. If they somehow get Steven Jackson, I really like the team. Granted I think Vince Carter is an over-rated d-bag and Lewis is past his prime. I like Arenas more than most though.

The Magic are taking on the Vikings "all in approach." Eh oh.
I like the moves for the Magic in that I don't think the team with VC was going to get it done, and not necessarily because of his lack of skill. That team just didn't do it and was not matched up well with the Celts. I'm not sure, but maybe this actually makes them a better matchup for boston...? Possibly. But I think there is no doubt that this means advantage Heat in the battle of the Florida teams.
I think it is a really ballsy move for just this year. But longterm? There situation just got a lot worse. These guys are not young.

They were starting to become predictable. Especially in the play offs. The would pass the ball in the paint and Howard would try to make things happen. If the defence stopped him he would pass in the perimeter for a 3 point party... But thats not enough for play offs. Eventually they had Bass in the starting line up because Howard could not stop rotations like Garnet, Perkins, O'Neal S, O'Neal J, Glen Davis e.t.c. alone...
They needed guys who could shoot and penetrate too. Jey Rich is the best option. And Hedo could provide some extra on the high - low game.

Billy Smith of the Twins could take a lesson on multi-taking from this.

their defense is gonna be even worse than before, dwight is gonna be in foul trouble(and blocking 5 shots a game) very early in games with all the penetration about to come his way.
