Brewer must be being shopped.....

OK, I know most guys here cannot stand Corey Brewer, but I think the reason he is playing so many minutes is because hes being shopped around along with Telfair.

His last 9 games hes averaging 29.7 minutes...now he shouldnt be getting that many with Wes and now Webster back.

It makes sense, because there are teams out there that could use a dependable defensive/energy guy at the two spot, and hes cheap and has 1 year left on his contract. Teams that are weak at the SG backup spot are:

Bobcats - Stephen Jackson/Gerald Henderson
Bulls - Ronnie Brewer/Keith Bogans
Cavaliers - Daniel Gibson/Manny Harris
Grizzlies - OJ Mayo/Xavier Henry
76ers - Jodie Meeks/Evan Turner
Wizards - Nick Young

Im sure there are some quality players in any of those teams that would allow the Wolves to make a deal....thoughts?

I think you're overlooking the obvious. With all of the injuries in the front court Beasley is now practically a PF, leaving the team with only 3 decent wings in Webster, Brewer and Johnson. He's just naturally getting minutes because there's no one better, a lot like last year.

I don't think we want to showcase his erratic behavior and terrible shot. We just played 4 games in 5 nights and he is usually one of our more durable players. With Martell still getting his legs under him it's not a huge surprise that he's getting minutes. 29 does seem high but I expect that number to start coming down once it's clear that Martell can play 30 a game.

True, injuries have forced Rambis to play Brewer more minutes, and he is one of the more durable players on the team. But surely management are looking at the squad, their record and ways they can improve.

All Im saying is, there are teams out there that could use Brewer and with the minutes hes been playing lately, makes me think he will be gone sooner rather than later.

With the early surprising Orlando trades this morning, more teams must be looking to upgrade their roster...and Orlando is a Top 4 Eastern team. We are 2nd worst in the league. Something has to happen soon.

Also, this time last season, Wolves were 5-23. Right now, we are 6-22, a 1 win improvement. If the Magic feel they need to make roster changes and they are Top 4 in the East, whats Kahn and Co thinking? I know we are not contending for a Championship like the Magic are, but we havent improved in anything since last year (except rebounding), and the fact that Love is having an All-Star season.

We need a pass first Point Guard who can play defense. A true backup centre. A three point shooter off the bench. We have pieces and/or expiring contracts that other teams would want and trade for.

Lets make a move, any thoughts?

This 4 team trade works:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=3anscj8

-Works for Minnesota, they get a veteran Finals MVP PG in Billups, and a Three Point shooter off the bench in Korver, with 11 mil in Cap Space.

-Works for Chicago, they get a defensive SG upgrade in Corey Brewer over Ronnie Brewer and/or Keith Bogans

-Works for New York, they get Melo paired up with Amare

-Works for Denver, they get a great shooter in Galinari, a backup PG in Ridnour and Eddy Currys 11 mil comes off the books next season.

At least we're a competitive 6-22. This team has improved more then you're giving them credit.

As far as making moves, I'm cool with waiting. There's too many injuries right now to do anything major, although I'm going to keep an eye on the Gortat-Lopez situation in Phoenix. If Gortat is as good as everyone thinks Lopez might become available.

I agree that Corey Brewer is near the top of our "To Trade" List, perhaps behind only Telfair. Brewer an be a useful guy, but I think after draft night, when we added Wes Johnson, Martell Webster and Lazar Hayward, his future with the team was limited .. and especially after the Beasley trade. In fact, there is a strong rumor that Kahn tried to use Corey Brewer to rise in the draft. Anyway, I would be very surprised if Brewer would be brought back next year, and I'd rather try to get something for him, than lose him for nothing.

Lopez sounds would be a good 3rd big. I think he is athletic and long enough to compensate for love

The Magic felt the need to make a move in order to try and keep pace with the Heat and Celtics, or risk falling behind them for the foreseeable future. That's a much different boat than the one occupied by the T-Wolves.

At this time last year, the Wolves had suffered 14 losses by more than 10 points. This year there have been 7 such losses. This year's schedule has also been slightly tougher, both in terms of competition and number of road games than last year's was. The Wolves have improved since last year, it's just tough to see without watching the games or digging a little deeper than W-L records.

Definitely. A Darko-Lopez rotation would mean 48 minutes of length and shot blocking.

Brewer is +8.3 on the season, and he has been by far our best defensive wing (the return of Webster may change that, or at least make the dropoff not nearly so steep). Rambis has been very clear that players get minutes when they play well. Being shopped around or not, he has earned his playing time.

I agree. Brewer is the best defensive wing on the team. His offense makes you cringe at times, but he isn't a defensive liability. I guess if he was being shopped, I would hope it would be for an athletic, defensive minded big.......but I don't think Corey would be enough to make a team like PHX or NYK, part with Lopez or Randolph

Brewer's defense is overrated. His gambling allows an open path to the basket almost as often as it creates a turnover. And his offense makes me cringe on every possession except for when he's alone on the fast break for a dunk, so basically 95% of the time.

Brewer currently has a 110 Defensive Rating, which is basically an estimation of how many points a player allows per 100 possessions.

For comparisons sake, here's some players from this team:
Michael Beasley - 112
Martell Webster - 113
Darko Milicic - 108
Wesley Johnson - 115 (!)
Luke Ridnour - 113
Anthony Tolliver - 112

And others:
Tayshaun Prince - 114
Shane Battier - 109
Russell Westbrook - 107
Andre Iguodala - 104
Luol Deng - 105

So his impact is one of the biggest on this team but, like the rest of the team, he can't compare to guys in the rest of the league.

He also has a 97 Offensive Rating (yuck) and a TS% and eFG% that's only slightly better then the crap he had in his rookie season. He's just bad.

Are those from 82 games? Their Wolves stats are completely screwed up.

My first proposed trade. Dont hate on me if it sucks!

Minn in: Robin Lopez and James Posey
Minn out: Corey Brewer and Kosta Koufas, Utah First

Why for MN- We ship out Brewer, get a defensive back up big, and posey's contract is only 2 years so he will expire when we need to re-up all of our guys

PHX Out: Robin Lopez and Dudley
Phx IN: Brewer, Kosta Koufas and Utah First

Why for PHX- They remove a long term contract where they already have a glut of players and get a 1st round pick for Lopez who isnt going to see much minutes with Gortat, Warrick and Frye

Pacers IN: Jared Dudley
Pacers Out: James Posey

Why for the Pacers- they are over the cap by quite a bit, so they ship out a useless 2 year 7 million dollar player for a somewhat productive 5 year 2 million dollar player

They link to 82games so I don't know if they're connected but I find them a lot easier to read for individual stats.

Piecake, I'd do that trade but I don't think Phoenix would. They just extended Dudley so they must like him and Lopez would take more then Koufos to get. I'd think they'd ask for Pekovic at least.

I'd be fine with moving out Pek(that might complicate things) or changing the first to the memphis one.

They just have Vince carter, Pietrus, Childress, Grant Hill and Dudley at the wing spot. I cant imagine that Dudley would get minutes over Pietrus, Carter, or Hill, and they are stuck with him for 5 years. Who knows, that might sound better to them than it does to me.

Yea, the trade doesnt work with Pek. someone would have to take Childress to make it work, and I dont think anyone wants to do that
