The Specific Protections on the UTA pick

I poked around for months looking for the specifics on these protections, and the best I ever got was "similar to the MEM protections." It looks like the exact wording has been released. I saw it on RealGM, so some of you guys might already know it -- and it looks like we're getting the pick this year regardless -- but for those like me that want to know the specifics of the trade:

Utah’s own 2011 first round pick to Minnesota (top 16 protected in the 2011 draft, top 14 protected in 2012 and top 12 protected in the 2013 draft).

If Utah has not conveyed a first round pick to Minnesota by 2014 and also if Utah’s own 2014 first round is not within the top 9 picks, then Minnesota will have the option to swap their own 2014 first round pick with Utah’s own 2014 first round pick. If Minnesota does not receive a first round pick by the 2013 draft and also does not swap 2014 first round picks with Utah, then Minnesota will receive Utah’s own 2014 second round pick. [Minnesota - Utah, 7/13/2010]

Thanks shrink. Kahn should have negotiated it into a 2012 1st round pick since we really only have 3 years of protection and then we get crap. Bad Kahn. Crap pick in a crap draft this summer and we have potentially 13 guaranteed contracts (with Rubio) and our own pick to boot. Would have been nice to have another 2012 pick because the Clips have our own pick and there's no guarantee we'll get memphis's next year.

Here's praying both Utah and Memphis collapse this year so we get a pair of 2012 picks instead.

I think the draft is shaking out to have a lot of depth this year. It's not very good at the top, but I think from 10-20 there will be a lot of good players available. Burks and Hamilton are 22 and 23 right now on DX.

You got to remember though that if there is a lockout then some of the freshmen/sophomores will stay in school for another year.

I think this draft will be a good one for getting polished players, but not for getting superstar potential.

I'm also kind of hoping for de-certification, since that would keep the season going and maybe convince more of the guys to make the jump.

I also expect Burks to make a huge leap at some point. I think he'll be this year's version of Paul George if he declares.
