All numbers from Wyn's spreadsheet, which can be found here:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key= ... SXc&gid=19
Rookie Scale numbers for 2010 and 2011 draftees from NBA players association website.
2012/13 scale numbers estimated as the same as 2011 draftees.
First Column (salary on books) based on all players options/tenders excercised
2nd column (Max cap room) is based on max cap room that can be created if all options/tenders are not excercised and unguaranteed contracts waived. It's an estimate of the amount of cap we could create when free agency starts.
3rd column (Lux Tax Number) Is the same as max cap room, except cap holds for unsigned 1st rounders go off the books (after first game of the season).

Cap room estimates are based on a 58,044,00 cap for each year.

We have 12 guaranteed 2011 deals, plus Rubio and potentially 2-3 1st rounders.

Money could be a concern as soon as 2012 if we are thinking of making a major move.
Iguaodala for instance carries a 2012 cap number of 13.3 million and 2013 number of 14.7 million.
We would have to probably move at the very least Pekovic and one of Flynn/Webster to make that work financially.

Mayo, McGee, and Randolph are nice targets, but keeping all 4 of Love, Beasley, Mayo, and Randolph/McGee long term might not be feasible, especially if some team comes along and offers a big RFA deal to one of them.

If Love and Beasley are pieces #1 and #2, we can probably only afford one more big piece, but it will come at the cost of moving others. Which is why it makes sense Kahn is considering a "singular move", because we only really have room for one more expensive player. Flynn or Ridnour is going to be moved at some point, but if we move Pek it still is going to cost us money to find a decent backup center.

Pekovic is really the only "bad contract" I see financially. He is really going to have to become a bigger contributor to justify his salary.

i can't see us making any trades for a long term expensive deal this season, especially with the uncertainty of the new CBA and what will happen with players current contracts, thanks for the insight

Good to see you back Shrink.

Pekovic and possibly Hayward are the only 2 deals I'd consider to be "negative value" contracts (IE can't trade them for an expiring), and you can make arguments that's not true either. We've come a long ways from the days when half the roster was full of terrible long term contracts.

What kind of frustrates me is how terrible we are at judging late 1st and 2nd round talent, given how many picks we've had in that range the past few years. Consistently good franchises always seem to find guys to fill the 8,9,10 spots with those types of players. The Spurs seem to find a guy every year, either in the draft or as a rookie FA. Dejuan Blair, George Hill, Gary Neal, Tiago Splitter.

What bothers me is that every year it seems we as mere fans can spot some of these guys that our Front Office passes on. We passed on Marc Gasol for Chris Richard in 2007. In 2008 we passed on DeAndre Jordan twice (we have henk norel's rights and cash to show for that 34th pick). I think taking Hayward about 20 picks too early and passing on Hassan Whiteside last year was a mistake too, with everyone calling for a defensive big to backup Darko.

While Ellington may or may not be a rotation player, this franchise's inability to find quality role players in the late 1st and 2nd round leaves me OK with us trading away so many 2nd rounders. Maybe that will change with Ronzone now scouting stateside. I really don't care if we move the Utah pick too, if it helps us upgrade our rotation with some size and/or defense.

Are those salaries the Max that Love and Beasley can receive?

Just a very loose estimation. Last summer Rudy Gay was eligilbe to receive (and got) an extension starting at 13.6 million, but who knows what will come out of the new CBA. If they both keep producing at the rates they have been so far this year, they both will be 10 mil + players.
Something in the Joakim Noah range (5 yr 60 mil) might be a starting point.

I see. I'm just thinking, that if these are not worked out in advance as an extension, in an open market, Love/Beasley are going to be receiving max offers (whatever the max is) from somebody. Well, definitely Love, and probably Beasley (imo)--funny how a guy goes from being bought for cap space to being a potential 10M+ guy.
