The Minnesota Timberwolves had routine trade talks recently with the Memphis Grizzlies, and were approached about being part of a multi-team deal to send Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets to the New Jersey Nets, but nothing came of any of it, Wolves president of basketball operations David Kahn said today.

Kahn said he is not actively pursuing any deals for his team, which is 9-29 and has the NBA's second-worst record behind Cleveland (8-29).

"Nothing ... absolutely nothing is imminent with our team right now," Kahn after today's practice at Target Center. "We're not looking to do anything on a trade basis at the moment. I'm focused on helping our coaches and players turn the corner this month."

CBS Sports.com reported that the Timberwolves were discussing a deal with the Grizzlies for guard O.J. Mayo, who was originally drafted by Minnesota in 2008 then traded that night for forward Kevin Love. Kahn said talks with Memphis were routine and "no names of players had come up on either side."

Kahn said the Timberwolves had been approached by teams trying to complete a complicated trade involving Anthony. Denver and the Nets now reportedly are talking with the Detroit Pistons about being the third team in the deal.

"Because of our salary cap flexibility, we were asked if we'd be interested in doing something and we said no," Kahn said.

44 days left till the trade deadline

I believe that if (big if) a deal is going to be made it will be right before the deadline. This is basically a try-out period to see what we have and what we need to fix.

Aspiration to use the cap for something else.

Honestly, I'd rather see what this team can do for a few more games before really pursuing anyone too. Adding Brewer to the SLU looked good and could have a bigger impact then we thought, although some smaller deals like getting Anthony Randolph should be completed as soon as possible.

No aspirations for trading at the moment?

What the ****?

If Kahn doesn't hit a homer before the deadline, this team is screwed for the next few years.

Who knows what they're actually doing. Right now he is jsut saying the PC things so as to not shake the confidence of a young roster. Facing all these tough defeats the last thing we need is all of ou players thinking they migth get traded any moment.

We shouldn't make a trade for the sake of making a trade. Plus more players can become available in the next few weeks.

Agreed. At this point a team with 9 wins and a ton of cap space shouldn't be looking to fill holes. That can be done in the offseason. It should be looking to take advantage of teams needing to dump salary at pennies on the dollar at the deadline. Build assets now, trade after the season for needs.
