Why??

Saw this topic on the Nets Board and thought this would be an interesting topic for our fans to discuss. Why do we continue to follow/root for the Wolves so closely, despite the poor performance?

I can only speak for myself but I think it's because I'm stupid.

I think I'm in this boat.... Plus the tickets to watch this team are so inexpensive... However, if I had hair, I'd be pulling it out by the middle of the first quarter of most games.. So frustrating at times!

I was thinking about this, and I have no clue.
Our management has shown nothing to be excited about over the past couple of years (not enough good moves to make up for the mistakes).

In a word...
Integrity.
You don't jump ship. You rooted for them when they almost beat Shaq and Kobe in the WCF. Therefore, you root for them when they're lottory bound.

I think growing up as a Packer fan (Parents are from WI) I learned to be a loyal fan. I collected basketball cards as a kid (what do you do with those now?) and Kevin Garnett's Rookie cards were the coolest. I think I still follow them cause they have always had at least 1 player I enjoyed watching. Win or lose I want someone to blow up the box score. I enjoy the story of each personality on the squad. From Love to Darko to Beasly these guys are all fun to watch grow. I just hope some day we get to watch a whole team not just a few guys.

For one thing: If the team ever gets it right and becomes consistently competitive, then I'll be able to say I was into the T-wolves before it was trendy.

Randomly grew a liking to the Wolves and have never looked back, if you choose to support a team you should stick by them every step of the way. It'd be a bit pointless if everyone started supporting the best team.

I get excited for every game. Why? I just like basketball I guess. Seeing the development between the pups is probably the biggest reason. Seeing if any of our young guys are taking their game to the next level.
I've been watching the wolves since 01. Haven't stopped since, never will. GO WOLVES

I think it's just part of my personality. I don't quit on something just because it gets tough(better keep me away from drugs). This is slightly different though in that I have zero control over the performance of our team whereas in my life hard work and perseverance usually does the trick.
Another reason is because of hope. I feel like this team could eventually go somewhere and we've all seen tiny glimpses of that. I have hope for the future of the Timberwolves. That actually reminds me of something:
http://plasticarmy.com/notes/a-little-p ... lled-hope/Heard an interesting story on the radio today about a lab rat study done in the 1950′s by a (possibly sadistic) scientist named Curt Richter.
He took a bunch of rats and put them into a high-sided bucket of circulating water that they couldn’t escape from and timed how long it took for the rats to drown. It wasn’t long – an average of 15 minutes for the rats to give up, stop swimming, and drown.
He then repeated the experiment with a new group of rats and a new twist – in the second instance, he “rescued” the rats just after they had given up swimming, again, at around the 15 minute mark. He let them dry off, he fed them some food, allowed them to recuperate. And then he threw them back in the bucket of water. The amazing result was that these rats were then able to swim for up to 60 hours before giving up and drowning.
I will not give up!!!!!

Because I hope to, in some way, recapture the feelings I had when we first drafted KG. The team was young, exciting, and full of promise.
Prior to that I was a Sonics and Heat fan. I never liked big market teams.

1. Garnett History
2. Everybody's doing it, so it must be cool. I'm sure I'm not the only guy to go look at other forum's game threads, and find only a page or two, compared to our 40.
3. I read a lot of forums, but overall, this is one of RealGM's strongest. A widely diverse set of posters bring different ideas. We have people with good knowledge on X's and O's, on the finances, on international play and on statiistics. We have posters with lots of passion. We have posters who are incredibly funny .. I always wonder if I should post when someone's post makes me squirt pop out of my nose! I like a few other forums, like WAS and MIL, but this is really a good group.
4. From a GM perspective, this is one of the richest, most interesting teams. Our history is unwritten, we have youth, and we still have plenty of assets. Even if we fail, we've got exciting picks coming in later. I'd have a hard time being a fan of, say, CHA, TOR, CLE or MIL, who are far more locked into a mediocre future.
