The 2009/2010 Re-Draft

I was just wondering if anyone wanted to go over there draft thoughts over the past 2 years and look at the lineup they would have had with their picks. We won't even get into the late 1st & 2nd round picks which is where I think we screwed up.
In 2009 I was hard into the one of Harden/Evans camp. Since that didn't happen. I would have picked.
#5 Rubio (for value)
#6 Curry (for value/clearly bpa)
I wasn't a Curry or Rubio fan at draft time or even now, but they were clearly the bpa's. From there I would have flipped Rubio or Curry to NYK for hill or derozan plus something (depending on who GSW picked up). Derozan would probably be there. From there I think flynn would have went to MIL (that was the rumor anyway). By MN's pick @ 18 we would have probably had a choice of: Lawson, Holiday, Jennings
I'll take lawson here because I was in love with him and thats where he actually went.
Derozan
Curry or Rubio
Lawson
In 2010 I understand that the front court was a bit jammed up, and while I still like Wes for this team. At draft time I still think the no brainer was Cousins. I mean sure he's nuts, but clearly he had the most talent and value. We could have done a number of things with him. Maybe flip him to OKC for harden? Which is what I would have done. Flip him for a later pick + incentive, monroe + x. For my example I'll just assume we keep flip him straight up for harden assuming the FO thought he was to nuts.
Darko\
Love\
Beasley\
Harden\Derozan
Lawson\(rubio or curry)
Plus add whiteside. Who we should have taken instead of lazar.
In conclusion we are the worst drafting team in the league. The team is clearly drafting for character above the clear bpa and has been. This team is murdering my soul.

Looking back now, we probably would get Rubio/Harden.
LAC-Griffin
Memphis-Evans
OKC-Curry
SAC-Jennings

On draft night 08, I was mad that we took Pekovic over DeAndre Jordan. Then I got convinced that Pek is the superior player. Even though Jordan is likely just playing for a contract, he would look nice on the Wolves now.
Hindsight threads can burn almost every team. But the Flynn pick was a head-scratcher even on draft night. I thought it was going to be DeRozan or Curry after Rubio fell into our laps.

I think BPA today is this --
Griffin
Curry
Holiday
Evans
Harden
Lawson
Jennings
Rubio
Derozan
However, i think OKC might still take Harden if the draft were held today today. Evans and Holiday do not fit with Westbrook and Durant. That would leave us with Holiday and probably either Rubio (to defer value) or Derozan.

Way to early for a 2010 re-draft, my god.
As for 2009, I'd probably go with Holiday and Rubio. I'd still trade the 18th pick and I'd still probably pick Ellington at 28.

I knew we loved Flynn, and was ok but underwhelmed when I thought it would be Evans are Harden next to him. When we grabbed Rubio I really hoped we would go another direction, but Flynn shocked me then and now. I know Kahn loved him, but he was not the talent fit, or the position fit.
2010 is too early.

I think I'd still go all point guard draft for value, but probably Curry and then Jennings, then Lawson or Beaubois at 18. I'd keep em all, play 2 PGs like Dallas does a lot. Might need to go Holiday then to get a defender in there, I don't know. I still have a hard time buying into Holiday because he looked so bad at UCLA. Definitely one would be Curry. I don't think I'd waste time w/ Rubio, there's too many good players.

I guess I can agree with that other than Harden being above Harden and Lawson, but is it crazy that Rubio has fallen this much? I mean some people were saying that Ricky could go #1 and he was for sure the consensus #2 talent in what looks like a solid draft. Is there any doubt he would have went second if Memphis wasn't picking there (mostly) and if they didn't already have Conley (kinda)? I know he hasn't been amazing in Barca, but he plays defense and has a game that translates much better to the NBA than Euroleague.
That's not a rip, more of a rhetorical post

Lenscrafts Presents: "The 20/20 Perfect Hindsight 2009 Redraft."
5. draft Rubio and trade him to the Clips for our pick back and let them deal with him.
6. Curry since he fits our offense
18/28. use 28 to trade up a couple of slots and get Holiday to be the yin to Curry's yang. Plus since Jrue can reportedly match up against SG's on defense we could roll with both of them in the back court and let Jrue be the PG and Curry the SG and just switch 'em up on defense.
Holiday
Curry
Beasley/Wes
Love
Darko
me likie
P.S. I like Roddy B but I couldn't make him fit.

I was just thinking Jrue+Curry would be nice.
Rubio for our pick back is interesting also. At the time we probably could have got a little more value for it as well.
If hindsight is perfect, then trade the #5 pick for Washington's unprotected pick. Then that pick becomes Wall and we are set.

Rubio/Derozan/Casspi/Blair are my picks in 2009. Of course this means we don't draft Wes Johnson in 2009, and probably grab Cousins (Frowned upon at family reunions).
C - Milicic/Cousins/Pekovic
PF - Love/Blair/Tolliver
SF - Beasley/Casspi
SG - Derozan/Webster/Brewer
PG - Rubio/Ridnour/Telfair
I'm happy.

We have Jrue Holiday, his name is Luke Ridnour with weaker shooting.

just think though, we never would have drafted Henk either, could have picked up, the other Griffin, Ben Woodside, Alonzo Gee or even Wesley Matthews.

Torcher made this post in another thread that just got locked (similar thread) so I'm just moving his post over here. Just cuz I'm a nice guy.

While surfing the forums, I discovered the old 2009 NBA draft topic. It was interesting to see the emotions that flared that night.
Take a look at my favorite comments:

Look for my post when I said it was a terrible mistake to take Foye over Roy. I was screaming.
Now make a note about this flynn situation and let me know two years later.
(It’s been about a year and a half, so we’ll see what Flynn turns out by the end of the season.)
LOBO 7 wrote:Alright, here's my thoughts on....everything.
Last night was a roller coaster ride. I went from
ecstatic (Rubio at 5??!!) to
confused (Flynn at 6??) to
worried (are we gonna trade Rubio??) to
pissed (we're gonna f#%king trade Rubio...) to
reassured (we're gonna trade Flynn...) to
confused (we're gonna keep them both??)
So now, after all these months, who would you have drafted with the 5 and 6 picks? Would you have still taken a chance at Rubio? Would you go Rubio/Curry, or even Curry/DeRozan? I know it’s useless to ramble on about our past, but it’s always fun to look back and see what we thought of players at the time, and then look at them today.

oops.
To be fair, I saw both guys as weak defenders that both needed the ball to be effective.

Will never be effective in the NBA with the size of the help defenders.

Agreed. Though the Heat ran a couple possessions of it against the Thunder on Sunday. I about spit out my milk and Oreos.
