Expirings?

I was just messing around on ESPN's trade machine and noticed that the Wolves only have one expiring contract (Telfair) and one RFA (Brewer). That is, we have 12 players under contract for next year already!

No real analysis to go with this, just thought it was an oddity I thought I would share.

How many of these 12 are going to be in a Wolves uniform next year?

I think we'll have a roster turnaround again. 6 or 7 will probably stay.

I don't think it will be that extreme. Barring a major trade, I think these guys are here next year:
Ridnour
Johnson
Webster
Beasley
Love
Tolliver
Darko
Pekovic

that's 8 right there.

Ellington could easily be here (does anyone else want him?). Brewer is a big question mark. I think he is here if he is willing to take a reasonable contract offer or if no other teams make any extravagant offer (which I can't see anyone doing).

So 8 -10 returnees is what I see unless Kahn strikes a big deal like Iggy.

I think it depends on which "star players" are available for package deals. If we decide to nab someone with Iggy or Granger status, then I could see anyone except Love, Beasley, Darko, Rubio, and probably Ridnour being thrown into a deal.
Also, depending on where we draft could change how much we value a specific position.

More likely, I think we stick with what we have while maybe trading one of our sg/sf + picks for a small upgrade or financial benefit. Maybe someone like OJ Mayo coming in.

After the trade deadline, I think we'll have a better idea of who will be on this roster next year.

Again, Brewer is not a RFA unless we offer him the QO, which I'd be shocked if we do because it's 150% of his current salary.

Here's hoping it won't be like that or we'll have a pretty disappointing 2011/2012 season.

I disagree, I think that's a decent set of 8 players to build around.

If they don't turn it around til the end of the season they probably never will and you need to try and make a bigger move.

I think if we can add an Iggy type player as mentioned and one or two vets I'd be pretty confident heading into next season.

Not sure if this is the best spot

But with OJ's steroid suspension his value will plummet.

Is it now worth a shot at grabbing him on the cheap?

We keep hashing that issue. Kind of getting tired of it.

I still expect a package type deal at the deadline. We do this in order to use our cap space before it disappears. Also, we brought in a consultant and many feel it is to evaluate the roster before moves are made.

The question has to be the Brewer v Webster dynamic. Webster has lost almost all his minutes. Is he in the doghouse? Is he hurt? Are we promoting Brewer?

I still think we should get him. I mean, he's better than Ellington, but if we get a chance to get a player like Iggy, then there's no question we get Andre.

If the adds are Rubio and a top-5 pick, that's not too bad (assuming both pan out). I assume a move for Iggy or an Iggy-like player is on hold in order to squeeze as many losses out of the current lineup as possible.
