Something fun for a change: Make Your Offseason Dream Team

Post#1 » by Krapinsky » Sat Feb 26, 2011 9:40 pm

Here's the rules:

Krap is the judge. It's Draft Time 2011. You are the Wolves GM.

Transform the roster however you see fit using available Wolves players and draft picks.

1. The lottery shakes out and the Wolves end up with the following picks: #3, #15, #17
The players available at those spots may be referenced using the DX 2011 mock draft.
http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft/2011/

2. You may make any trades you see fit, but Krap is the judge and determines whether it's a realistic trade, in which case I'll be rounding up -- meaning, if anything, you'll have to slightly overpay as far as trade value goes. No homer deals here.

3. Assume Rubio will be here.

After a few days I'll choose my favorite 10 and make a poll to decide who was the best Wolves GM.

#3-Jonas Valanciunas, C, Lietuvos Rytas,-BPA, and it happens to be at one of our biggest needs. The guy is a stud. Standing at nearly 7 foot, with a long 7'6" wingspan. He is a hustler who also has the physical gifts to be dominant. He runs the floor really well, is a pretty good athlete, and still very young. Could be a huge pick for us if he develops like it seems.
#15- Alec Burks, SG, Colorado-I think he should go higher and probably will, but DX has him going at 18. He's the best sg prospect in the class. Has long arms, a good athlete, has great handles(although can get kind of out of control with them), and has a solid jumper. He could be the wing that can create his own shot we sorely need. His defense needs a lot of work but he has the physical tools to be at least solid on that end.
#17-Bojan Bogdanovic, SG, Cibona VIP Zagreb,I don't think we need 3 rookies so I decided to take a Euro guy that we should be able to stash for a couple years. A great scorer who possesses a good first stop along with ballhandling skills for either hand. Has a solid jumper, but really has improved in getting into the lane and drawing fouls(something this team really needs from a wing). May not be the best athlete but he is good at changing speeds, which is just as valuable.

Rubio-Ridnour-Flynn
Wes J-Burks-Ellington(Bogdanovic)
Beasley-Webster-Hayward
Love-Tolliver-Randolph
Darko-Pekovic-Randolph(Jonas V)

Trade the #3 to GSW for Ellis.

Package the #15 and #17 + whatever the hell you want for a pick where we can take Vesely.

Move Beasley for whatever the hell you want, vet talent, future picks, whatever.

OVERPAY for Chandler or Perkins.

Rubio/Ridnour
Ellis/Ellington/
Johnson/Vesely
Love/Randolph
Perk or Chandler/Darko/Randolph

I am a complete dumbass and have no IDEA if any of this is remotely possible. Just having fun.

Trade 1: #3, #15, #17, Michael Beasley, Flynn for Eric Gordon, Foye, Gomes

FA: resign Corey Brewer for decent amount/might as well sign another vet defensive presence?!?
FA: Andrei Kirilenko 4 years, 36 Mil. (I don't know if this works but it should considering Curry is off the books)

Ricky Rubio/Luke/Foye
Eric Gordon/Corey Brewer/Ellington
Kirilenko/Wesley Johnson/Hayward
Kevin Love/Anthony Randolph/Anthony Tolliver
Darko Milicic/Nikola Pekovic/Anthony Randolph

Trade Webster for a bag of donuts (he's hurt too often) and Gomes, too.
Essentially: Trade everything that is not necessarily needed for a good SG (or C) and then move on.
We'd still need to find a C then (kinda what OKC managed to get done with Perkins).
It might be good that I'm not a GM.

I wonder if trades like this will be possible in the future.

Jonny Flynn traded for 6 mini donut vendors and a 3 year supply of cotton candy for every fan!

Sorry Blue, I'm using my first veto on this one. While I think it's a fair trade, I think Turner is on the basically unobtainable list. Would have to really go over the top to get him.

Trade 3, Flynn, Webster and Pekovic for Iguodala and a future protected first.
At 15, draft Alec Burks. Guy can get to the FT line and that's something this team needs.
Trade 17, Wayne Ellington for a future first. The team needs to save money for FAs.
Sign Tyson Chandler to a 5 year, $45 million contract with a team option at the 3rd year and a player option after that. I don't think we would be his first choice but we're the only team able to spend that kind of money on him.
Sign Michael Redd to a 2 year, $5 million with a player option on the 2nd year. He gets a decent contract as well as the chance to prove he can still play. The team needs his shooting and experience.
Have Rubio sign his contract, throw a parade.

Rubio, Ridnour
Iguodala, Redd, Burks
Beasley, Johnson, Hayward
Love, Randolph, Tolliver
Chandler, Darko

I could actually watch this team.

Sorry, I think this gets vetoed too. Need a little more to get Ellis. The #3 pick in this draft is probably the equivalent of like the #10 pick in an average draft.

This is only for draft night right Krap? Free agent signings should not come into this at all?

1). Rubio comes over

2).Trade #15 and Beasely for Iggy.

3). Trade #17, Flynn and Webster for Steven Jackson.

4). Draft Jonas Valanciunos

Team after draft night.

Darko/Jonas/Pek
Love/Randolph/Tolliver
Iggy/Johnson
Jackson/Ellington
Rubio/Ridnour

After this I would also try to move Pek or Darko for another 2/3 or future pick.
"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."

Interesting deal. Gordon would be my #1 target to get. I'm not sure how obtainable he is, though that is an impressive offer.

What do others think of this one? Realistic?

EDIT: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1095916

See that forum. I think Gordon is untouchable.

trade the 3/17/Flynn to Cleveland who I decided got the #2 pick...and Hollins. Naturally Irving is the consensus #1 pick since he's been on fire, so the Wolves take Perry Jones #2. Not a bad consolation prize.

#15 take Brandon Knight

Tolliver/Darko/Ridnour for Jason Terry as Chandler and Cardinal aren't brought back and Beaubois is ready to take over for Terry

Rubio/Knight
Wes/Terry/Ellington
Beasley/Webster/Hayward
Jones/Randolph/Nemanja Bjelica
Love/Pekovic/Loukas Mavrokefalidis/Hollins

What about adding Webster to that deal and replacing Turner with Iguodala? I was afraid Turner would be a bit harder to obtain, I suggested that trade because they may be content on keeping Iggy and making Turner available.

New Lineup would be:
Rubio/Luke
Iggy/Williams/Ellington
Battier/Johnson/Hayward
Love/Randolph/Tolliver
Kanter/Pekovic/Randolph

First thing I do is fire Rambis and hire myself. At the number #3 pick we take Harrison Barnes.
at #15 i snag Jimmer Fredette and at #17 were takin Kyle Singler. I also really like Cam Long from George Mason so scoopin him second round. Trade Pekovic and Flynn for Kevin Martin. Trade Ellington and Lazar for Marcus Camby. Trade Wes Johnson and Telfair for Luol Deng.

Ridnour/Rubio/Fredette
Martin/Barnes/Singler/Long
Beasley/Deng/Webster
Love/Randolph/Tolliver
Darko/Camby/Randolph

draft
- select jonas at number 3
- package number 15 and 17 together to move up to 10/11 and select jan vesely
- buy second round pick if tomas satoransky is entering draft and select him....let him play overseas if lockout shortened season, maybe 1 or 2 more season regardless.

trade
- beasley, ridnour & tolliver to dallas for roddy beaubois & peja & something to make salary work
- trade jonny flynn and nikola pekovic & reasonably protected draft pick for james harden & nick collison or cole aldrich

team
rubio/beaubois/harden
harden/ beaubois/wes/webster
johnson/ jan vesely/peja
love/ randolph/ vesely
darko/ jonas / randolph/ collison or aldrich

hell of a lot of potential...i would still go in the youth direction even if signing some vets might mean we surrender a less high draft pick to the clippers.
