Just for giggles. Who would you want as the Coach?

If you think Rambis is the issue ( I think both Kahn and him are) who would you replace him for? Make it realistic and explain yourself.

For me this is Sam Mitchell.
-Former player
-Success as a coach (of the year?) before the Tor front office dropped a steamer on him.
-Appeared to be defensive focused as a coach
-His mentor role with Garnett and long history with the team would help the fans.
-I think he deserves another chance.

Easy one: Tom Thibodeau.

- would tell the players on the court what to do
- would tell the players on the court what to do
- would tell the players on the court what to do
- would tell the players on the court what to do
- would tell the players on the court what to do

A guy called Wiggy is not going to make that happen. Call him King Wiggins, A-Wolf or whatever.

I would definitely consider Sam Mitchell. I would also like to have Terry Porter on our bench as well.

Don't think McHale would comeback. He didn't like the traveling anyways & has found a home on TNT/NBATV. I must admit I would choose him over Rambis in a heartbeat.

Nice reasons, but I said "realistic" and I doubt he leaves Chicago.

Non-realistic - Tom Thibodeau, love what he's done at Chicago, nice guy and an excellent coach.

Realistic - Dwayne Casey, step back you may say but we never gave this guy a fair crack of the whip and I think he did a decent enough job with us.

Bill Laimbeer - Cheaper option and has already got a bond/knowledge of the players. Can he bring the toughness Rambis hasn't?

I actually like Rambis as a guy but the record never lies.

I'd prefer a defensive minded coach. I won't name anyone specific but just one of these guys that have a clear vision of a defensive-minded team.

I wouldn't say no to bringing in a foreign coach from Europe. These guys mostly emphasize defense a lot which would be great for our team - and they're probably easier available than a good American coach.

probably not

in that case, Brad Stevens. I'd sign that guy to a 5 year contract w/o hesitation

I like the Laimbeer idea, though I really don't know what his coaching philosophy is. If he brought his toughness from the playing days and a defensive mindset, he'd be my guy.

Would love Thibs, wasn't he a candidate for a while when we were hiring Rambis? Mitchell and Casey both got raw deals but in hindsight they did pretty well. Pretty much anyone who demands/teaches defensive accountability and shows personal accountability for any failings of the team.

His method was goofy and quirky at first, wasting picks on all those PG's but in the end he seems to have gotten it done.

Thibodeau would be nice but that's a pipe dream. If they wanted to go internal and save money, I wouldn't mind Lambeer. Seems like he would be a change of pace, and he's qualified. If they wanted to go external, though, how about Mike Brown, the former Cavs coach. He doesn't coach offense at all. They wouldn't have set plays so much, they wouldn't run a comprehensible system necessarily, so that part would be infuriating. But he's a Poppovich disciple. So he'll coach the hell out of defense. He'd focus on that, and whip it into shape. So I say go for half a coach as opposed to their current non-entity.

The truth of the matter is noone wins with such a young team. So for a coaching choice in the near term it has to be about player development. Are they improving individually and as a team.

so for the players that were on the roster last year have they individually gotten better.

Love - Yes, without question first all star appearance
Brewer - Yes, marginally
Flynn -No, injury
Ellington, Yes, marginally
Darko - Yes, marginally
Pekovic - New
Johnson - New
Beasley - New
Ridnour - New
Hayward - New
Telfair - New
Tolliver - New
Webster - New, injury
Randolph - Really New

Have they gotten better as a team?

Sometimes. Lately, No. Is that the exception or the rule? By this time next year, the answer will either be yes or Laimbeer will be the coach for the rest of next season.

Great shout. Another one who I wouldn't mind but wouldn't be my no.1 choice would be Laurence Frank if he'd be available.

Jeff Van Gundy. He's got a pretty good resume and he might be ready for a change of pace.

yeah i really like van gundy, who's the best player development coach in the league?

i'd personally in a dream world want greg popovich...he's a hard nosed guy in the jerry sloan mold who treats everyone the same, from the 15th man to his superstar, has a proven track record and i don't know whether it's him personally but has had many players develop well under his watch.
