How about Nolan Smith w/ late 1st rd pick?

Assuming we either trade or just outright release Jonny Flynn, I would like to see Nolan Smith as one of our point guards. He isn't a pure pg but ....

Smith is taller and a much better defender than Flynn. He handles the ball with confidence and makes crisp passes without telegraphing them. I have watched Duke 4-5 times this year and haven't seen him put up an airball, dribble off his leg or laugh after making a mistake. He plays some pretty good man-to-man defense too.

I think he could be a very nice back up to Rubio if he comes over. If Rubio is not here next year and Ridnour is our starter, at least we would have a pg that doesn't seen to panic under pressure.

I believe he is also a friend of Michael Beasley's from AAU ball and high school. This could be a good thing for Michael - having a more mature friend to hang around with.

He'd be cool. So would Jimmer. Either one wtih the Utah pick (assuming it doesn't go away)

Pretty much in the same boat. Assuming Flynn is moved and we go with Rubio/Ridnour, I don't have an issue with Smith, Fredette, or Kemba with one of our other picks.

We have a starting PG in Rubio and a backup in Ridnour, so why use an asset in a late 1st on a 3rd stringer when we could just as easily get one for the minimum in FA?

I doubt he's there by the time we're on the clock. Some team will take a chance on him. Make or break.

I would feel more inclined to include the pick in some package.

Jimmer on the other hand

My thought is that hopefully Rubio shows enough that Ridnour isn't a necessity and/or the 3rd shows enough potential to be a solid backup so that Ridnour's contract can be moved. It's not a big deal now, but if we're looking at extensions for Love and Beasley, the money might be better served freed up from a backup PG at $5million.

He's the starting pg for Duke - projected to go anywhere from 18-29 in this year's draft

Well, I haven't watched a single NCAA game this season. I watched some games last season but honestly in this weak draft I don't bother watching any of the prospects. Especially because this freakin draft seems to lack good prospects at our biggest weaknesses. C and SG.

I love how people still think we are going to use the Utah pick...

They are never making the playoffs children, there pick will be moved to next year.

The memphis pick on the other hand will likely be around 16-18

I wouldn't mind a combo guard, mainly because we need more ball handling but for this reason any guard we're looking at should be more of a scorer. Any combo guard we draft will primarily play SG. Brandon Knight is the guy I like.

I'd love smith, and think that he would be an ideal combo guard in our rotation. My suspicion is that we'll be using our first pick this year as part of a trade to add a skilled vetran who is a borderline star player. If that happens, I would think we'd also be thinning out or stable of young players in any such deal, so I would only expect to see 2 or 3 of ellington, lazar, pekovic, flynn, johnson playing for us next year. What I think Nolan Smith would bring is versatility and playmaking ability to go along with a calming sense of leadership. I view him as the polar opposite of Jonny Flynn, because he seems like more of a calm lead-by-example type of guy who always seems to play in control and doesn't seem to force things. He's be a young 'vetran' of sorts that could fill in alongside rubio as a scorer who can make the right pass.

I would also not mind north carolinas pg I think it is Marshall he looks like he could become a very good player

And would Derek fisher be a good comparison for smith. I know smith is more of a combo guard but...

We also have Wayne Ellington for that role. We don't need a combo guard. We need a big strong physical guard that can handle the ball.

I would be surprised if the wolves ever get that pick from Utah given the protection and the rebuild of Utah.
