Taylor: Kahn Is Safe, Still Evaluating Rambis

NEW YORK -- Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor told CBSSports.com Friday that he needs more time to evaluate coach Kurt Rambis, but that general manager David Kahn is safe.
"What I’ve kind of asked David and the staff to do is, let’s just take a little bit of time now, back off, and ask everybody to put in some evaluations," Taylor said after the NBA Board of Governors meetings. "Also, look at what are our options going ahead. What could we change? Then, come together and talk about what’s the best solution here. My sense is, it’s just too close to a season in which we didn’t meet the goals that we had set out, so it’s a little frustrating right now. I’d just as soon not make a final decision when you’re in a little bit of a down mood."

That's the worst news I've heard all day.
How does someone that makes decisions like that get to be a billionaire?

Reading these stories is kind of like reading the Twilight books. Sure the vampire and the girl might end up doing it, but you shouldn't have to read 1,718 pages to find out the answer.

apparently 2 years isn't enough to evaluate someone.

That's terrible. Who's gonna work for Kahn after he threw Rambis under the bus? He embarrassed himself and the franchise in that press conference. After spending so much mental energy defending his tenure, I've finally come to the conclusion that the one thing you can't defend is how awfully he's represented the Wolves as a legitimate franchise.

The team isn't exactly recognized for sticking with their coaches.

This organization doesn't deserve to have any fans. We won't be able to attract any decent coach to work under Kahn, and so we'll probably end up keeping Rambis, saving Papa Glen $$$ in the process. Never mind that noone will want to pay to go to the games.
This owner ****ing sucks!

I don't see how it's throwing Rambis under the bus at all. This team compared to last year is stacked with talent. How Rambis managed only 2 more wins with a vastly improved roster is on him. He has to own that, whether Kahn brings it up or not, it's the truth.

Mob mentality. Someone said it happened, so it happened. Probably most people saying the press conference was embarrassing for the franchise didn't even watch it. I watched the whole damn thing and the only thing I have to complain about is the hyperbole Kahn uses when he talks about the future of this team and his evaluation of the offense.
People love grasping at straws when it comes to Kahn. They take the littlest things and act like he bit a kittens head off while painting swastikas with it's blood.

oooh, I remember when Ozzy did that... but I thought it was like pentacles or something?

We got younger, more athletic, added cap space, and added picks ... these were things people were screaming for. Kahn did a decent job of that, but:
1. At this point, it appears he boffed with Flynn and the Rube is still an unknown.
2. He fired Mchale ... he was a good coach, home boy, and cheap ... Kahn was threatened IMO.
3. He hired Rambis like it was a slam dunk ... we've regressed if every facet of the game.
4. Kahn nor Rambis have EVER taken any accountability in the teams struggles over the last two years ... that's telling me we have two very arrogant people running this team and need to be bitch-slapped in a big way.
Musts...Kahn: Rubio here or traded ... enough is enough.
Kahn: Acquire a SG that can at least start.
Rambis: Has 20 games to prove he can coach - specifically defense.

Lol. Fire him already. 2 years, he has proven he can't coach. If we don't fire him now we'll have to adjust our team to his system. If he then fails we have far more expenses of fixing the team.

Whoa... slow down there. Last year's roster had Al Jefferson on it, who didn't fit with Love of course but is a more accomplished NBA talent than anyone on this roster save Love. This roster has one and a half legitimate NBA starters right now (Love and Beasley), a whole lot of unproven/injured guys... and Darko.
Kahn does have a vested interest in making this a coaching problem, no doubt. But be careful in your evaluation of the Wolves' talent. They had the ceiling of a 30 win team, talentwise. In my opinion that goes on the GM, not the coach.

Not really true. Kahn has swallowed his pride and has owned up to his mistakes on multiple occasions.
1.) He's admitted he screwed up in his evaluation of Steph Curry.
2.) He quickly traded Sessions and Hollins when he realized they weren't going to work here.
3.) He's said that he's tried to stabilize the pg position on this team but admits that it can be argued he's made it worse.
4.) He's now tempered his expectation of Darko.
5.) He did a 180 of his stance on Love.
6.) He brought in Ronzone after being heavily chided for his player evaluation skills.
7.) It appears now he's ready to make the move on Rambis.
Don't get me wrong, Kahn has made his fair share of mistakes and should have to answer for them. But it's a bit out of control the way people view him around here. Open your eyes, ears and use your brains. Don't just repeat what what some spazzy internet post has said.

I also was more under the impression that Taylor was getting pissed off as the season wore on, and changes would be at his mandate. Its a little surprising to sense that Kahn is the one who is so eager to move in another direction with the coaching. Taylor must be dreading having to write $4-5 mil in checks to buy the coaching staff out.

Honestly, we should all just quit on the franchise.
Rambis is 32-132 in 2 years. That's a winning percentage of freakin less than 20 %.
It's not going to get better. We have shown no improvement over the curse of the season and it has gotten far worse to end the year. If they don't wake up in the FO now then this is just hilarious.

Basically it comes down to this, how can Kahn find a qualified head coach when he himself (Kahn) isn't qualified to be a NBA general manager. This next hire has failure written all over it.

Look at the rosters from both seasons and also note that last year they were tanking for a large part of the season.
2009-2010:
Al Jefferson
Kevin Love
Jonny Flynn
Corey Brewer
Wayne Ellington
Ryan Gomes
Brian Cardinal
Ryan Hollins
Nathan Jawai
Aleksandar Pavlovic
Oleksiy Pecherov
Ramon Sessions
Alando Tucker
Damien Wilkins
Darko (for 25 games or so)
Most of that pile of stink can barely get 10 day contracts this year and last year they were getting decent minutes. Also a fun fact: Al Jefferson has never been on a team that had a winning record at the end of a season. Can't see how accomplished someone can be considered with that fact glaring at them.
2010-2011 Roster:
Kevin Love
Michael Beasley
Wesley Johnson
Martell Webster
Corey Brewer (before the trade deadline)
Anthony Tolliver
Darko Milicic
Kosta Koufos (before the trade deadline)
Jonny Flynn
Luke Ridnour
Sebatian Telfair
Anthony Randolph (after the deadline)
Nikola Pekovic
If you actually watch basketball you will understand how much more talent is on the 2nd roster than the first. If you look at box scores and stats to form opinions there is no difference.
