I'm a relatively new poster on RealGM, so if this is redundant thread or if this topic has already been played out my apologies.



I'm just curious as to what opinion people have about Randolph as a player and what they think his future with the team looks like. It's been my impression that a lot of people were less than impressed with him after the trade even though he put up some nice numbers when he actually got minutes. I only saw him play in a few games but from what I saw I thought he was the sort of player that should be looked at as a core building block going forward. Do people see him as a starter? What's his best position, 3 or 4? Could he play center if he puts on some weight? Will he beat out Beasley for the starting 3 position, or is he better suited as top flight 6th man? Will he be in Minnesota for the long term?

He was incredibly productive in a limited time. He almost made Flynn look like a pg a couple times.

He is in a similar position to Beasley for me. This summer will make whether they can be a starter n a playoff team, or if he is destined to be a sub.

Randolph has a low BBIQ. He needs things to be simple in order to succeed. He is a good help defender, but seems to strangely struggle in man defense. He is about 20lbs light of being the player we want at the 5 next to love.

He is not a 3. He is either a face up 4 or if he gains weight he is a 5.

I'm predicting that he's going to be flipped this offseason. Player development was pretty much the only route we could go when Rubio opted for Spain, but now we're at that point that we need to compete with established talent. If I remember correctly, both Kahn and Rambis were given three years to turn this team around, so there's an incentive to trade a certain 21 year old that has a lot of upside for someone who's more than just a role player. Am I the only one who believes that we shut down Love in order to showcase Randolph?

Our front office had targeted Randolph for almost two years before acquiring him. I have a hard time envisioning them trading him so quickly. Our coaching staff has also talked about the lack of size/length in the post. While he needs to bulk up a bit, Randolph definitely has the length we were looking for.

While I don't personally see him being traded, it cannot be ruled out if a really good deal comes along.

Flipped for what? Did a few good games with the worst team in the league really pump up his value that much from Corey Brewer's contract and some rented cap space?

I think Randolph will end up an athletic big who is an offensive burst off the bench. His BBIQ is such that it's painful to give him big minutes. His defense is pretty bad as well. I've never really been a fan of his. I can see that the talent is there, but I don't think he'll ever fulfill his true potential.

I'm not arguing that he's the key to landing Dwight Howard or Chris Paul. He can easily be included in a package for another player.

Personally I'm pretty forgiving as far as the low BBIQ is concerned, being that he hasn't had a single good coach. I'm hopeful that with someone competent on the bench next year he makes a leap.

One follow up question: Ideally he adds 20 lbs and is able to play center, is his body type such that this is a reasonable expectation?

Well, reportably, he has added 20+ lbs of muscle every summer of his career, so...

Agreed. I ask a similar question when I read people post that the Wolves should trade their pick for vet help, considering that all a lotto pick netted this season was exchanging Baron Davis for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon.

Baron has a pretty horrific contract and a top 4 pick has significantly more value than Anthony Randolph.

I don't see him getting moved. He did well for only half a season here, I'm assuming they will give him at least until next year's trade deadline to see what he's got.

Besides, if he CAN add muscle, him and Tolliver make a decent bench combination. That's worth keeping.
