Offseason Thread (Iguodala & Young)

Post#1 » by Ruhiel » Tue Apr 26, 2011 4:35 pm

How many games would Minny win with this?

PG-SG*/Iguodala(17.1)/**Thaddeus(18.5)/Love (23.4)/Milicic(10.5+)guard elites ala Perkins)**

*star position: would opt for a combo to spread floor like Thornton, Gordon, or Ellis. Rubio can grow here though. :(

edit: due to negative FAN response, no trading Milicic for AI9 and reloading with Thabeet :lol:

Thabeet can't easily do that. He's incapable of playing basketball.

32-34 games in the West? I'm not sure that's the direction we need to go.

Replace Perkins with Biyombo and that doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility.

Exactly. I just hope the FO realizes the possibilities that could come our way. We can't afford to blow this offseason away. We have to take the next big step to improve the roster starting with Rubio.

First off Perkins is a top center and is signed to the OKC Thunder.
2ndly I mentioned about Beasley being a volume scorer who puts up points on bad shooting numbers earlier today and right on cue:

Wolves' Beasley among NBA's top 'gunners'
Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal - by John Vomhof Jr.
Date: Tuesday, April 26, 2011, 11:24am CD
http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/b ... nners.html

"Beasley chucked 1,082 two-point shots and 164 three-point shots this season. That means he attempted shots worth a total of 2,656 points in his 2,361 minutes of game action — a rate of 1.125 points attempted per minute, ranking sixth among all NBA players. (The analysis did not include free throw attempts since the referee, not the player himself, decides when those shots will be taken.)

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant :o lead the league with 1.308 points attempted per minute among players who logged at least 1,000 minutes. Carmelo Anthony, Derrick Rose, Kevin Martin and Kevin Durant rounded out the top five."

I only put Perkins there because your Iggy, Thad, Love, Thabust, Perkins 5 didn't look too good.

You guys have a great big forward in Kevin Love. The Wolves would be wise to snatch Young up in free agency.
Thabeet was a suggestion to replace Milicic's size.
I'd retain Milicic in a trade for Iguodala. I think Pekovic and Wesley Johnson's rookie contract is enough.

Actually, I'd say that Thad Young is a free agent that the Wolves definitely don't need to go after. He would play behind Love and Beasley, and the Wolves are already well stocked at backup SF/PF with Randolph, Tolliver, Webster, Hayward, and probably Johnson.

The cap space should be spent to actually upgrade a starting spot, particularly C or SG.

And Thabeet sort of replaces Darko's size, while getting even less talented at the center spot. He's not an NBA player.

What? The 76ers won 41 games with a bad start and a 30 yo Elton Brand/Spencer Hawes playing center. :lol:
What difference does the Conference make in record? I think you're confusing the record with seeding.

Didn't expect the Minnesota fans to player-hate on Thabeet :dontknow:

(PG with +18.0 PER )/Iguodala/Young/Love/Milicic
^I think that's close to 50 wins and can compete for the West.

The point of posting that Beasley article was to show that when Beasley's on the court he shoots as many shots-per-minute as MVP candidates. That means he is getting into shooting contests with Kobe Bryant, Kevin Martin, Derrick Rose, and Kevin Durant.

Yet he's not as good a shooter as them. I'd love him off the bench as a bench wing but he should not be playing Kobe Bryant. He can create his shot but more likely than not it's not going in.
If you haven't seen Young play you need to see him get out and run. He can go on runs ala Antwan Jamison but able to keep up with small forwards. :dontknow:

Playing bad teams 3 or 4 times instead of 2.

The Clippers own the MIN 1st unprotected in 2012 draft.

But either way, I hardly think that team would be the worst in the NBA.

1) The trade was Iguodala for Wes Johnson, maybe Webster and Pekovic/Milicic. Wes Johnson would no longer be here.
2) Iguodala is an upgrade at SG.
3) Young is an upgrade at SF.

You basically stole the 2 best players from the 76ers, added a center, added Kevin Love, and play a big lineup that matches up well with the Lakers and Celtics.

if u retain Milicic then that's gr8 and if u can take Iguodala and keep Milicic who is ironically one of the best centers available nowadays. Thabeet was a suggestion to get Iguodala.
:::
An alternative to Iguodala would be Monta Ellis & Young

Beasley&Webster for Ellis

(Ridnour/Rubio)/Ellis/Young/Love/Milicic
randolph leading the bench mob
:::::
most cost-efficient scenario, Milicic is the vet leader here tho!
Marcus Thornton (the steal of the 09 draft, 6'4 Monta Ellis!)

Thornton/guard/Young/Love/Milicic

@Klomp

what is your prospectus on Beasley? The advanced stats say he is a gunner and just watching him you say his game he's a low percentage gunner who would be better as a scorer off the bench. His PER actually dipped for the 2nd straight year.

I like Young better as an athletic rebounder and arguably the fastest transition 3 in the game. Lebron is actually heavier and has to work harder to run as fast as Young does with ease.
Young also has a very strong potential post up face up game at the 3 in half courts and semi-transitions.

Personally I don't think you can compare the 2. :dontknow: It's just I've seen both of them and Young is just more efficient and has a higher dynamic ability.

I'm more skeptical about Beasley than the majority are here, but I realize how young he is and has a chance to be something special. I'm just not sure how long I'm willing to wait.

Beasley still has the highest potential of the two. It remains to be seen how close he'll get to reaching that potential, though.

The biggest problem with all of this (and pretty much every one of your posts in this topic) is that Young isn't a 3 at all. At best he's a 4 who can play spot minutes at SF.

None of your posts have mentioned any trades. But you did mention getting a player in free agency who does not upgrade any starting spots (like I mentioned) but would limit the team's ability to upgrade starting spots with giant holes. Where Young ranks on the sixers is fairly meaningless.
