For the right price...

Post#1 » by cavsfan58 » Wed May 18, 2011 9:21 pm

Would you personally trade your #2 overall pick for the #4 overall pick and some other stuff from the cavaliers. I figure that you already have beasley (who is a tweener at PF/SF), Kevin Love, and then Derrick Williams. What is your asking price from the cavaliers?

2 + Darko (or Pekovic) for 4 + Varejao.

Follow that up with Johnson + Pekovic (or Darko) + Randolph* for Iggy

Varejao/Biyombo(4)
Love/Tolliver
Beasley/Iggy
Iggy/Webster
Rubio/Ridnour

*Adding Randolph increases the value for Philly, making the deal more likely, balances salaries better, and with Varejao and Biyombo filling all the C minutes, Beasley and Iggy filling all the SF minutes, and Love filling all but 10-15 of the PF minutes, there just isn't any extra space in the rotation for Randolph.

No.

Varejao is nearly 30 years old coming off a serious injury. By the time the Wolves' core is ready to compete Varejao will be riding a scooter around, and no, I am not talking about those trendy Vespas.

If we don't start bringing in solid veterans like Verajao, the team will never be "ready to compete."

You could have said the exact same thing about Memphis' core and Zach Randolph when he signed, and look at Memphis now. Bringing in Randolph was the the catalyst that led to them being able to compete.

Vets are a good way of bringing in wins - but there are much better options than Varejao out there - considering the age and contract associated with AV.

Varejao is no Zach Randolph.

He'd be a nice player if the Wolves want to win a championship in 2 or 3 years - but by that time they will be looking to (hopefully) make their first playoffs appearance. I'm looking for a guy that can contribute (significantly) in 5-6 years, by that time Love will be in his prime (age 27-28) and Varejao will be, well, in a scooter.

AV is not the answer. The Wolves have been rebuilding for a long time and fans are getting impatient with the losing - the team is still young though. Love and Beasley are both just 22, bringing in a guy 7 years older (like Varejao) will help for a short while, but the long-term help just isn't there.

That's why Bismack is coming with him, sillyface.

So it's basically a 3-year rental for AV who will help a little, and trade Derrick Williams for Biyombo.

I don't want to jump on that ship.

I love the idea of Biyombo but would rather trade UP to get him. Not trade Derrick Williams for him.

Just what are you willing to part with to trade up from 20 to mid lottery?

And Varejao is 28 and has only been in the league for 7 seasons, averaging less than 25 minutes a game. It's not like he has a huge amount of mileage.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

And you're totally discounting the value of putting a balanced roster together, having them grow together and learn to win together. I'd guess AV has a bunch more left in him and by the time he's ready to relinquish the starting role, hopefully, Bismack would be beasting.

Varejao will be 29 before the season begins.

I'd be willing to part with Beasley and #20 for (#9)Biyombo + Tyrus Thomas if the pieces fell correctly, that is, if Biyombo falls to #9.

I know I'm alone on that one as every MN fan is in love with Beasley ('cept me), but I would definitely consider it - given the team's lack of center production.

Wait, what?

That's exactly why I don't want Varejao on the team. He won't have that opportunity to grow with the team because he's already "growed".

Or a bunch of other combinations of players.

This sounds right to me. I would REALLY prefer we try to hold on to Wes if we brought Iggy in (Iggy having so many minutes played, etc.), but tough to argue against the improvement this would bring. The defensive tone this would set would just be fierce.

With that cap room you would think you guys could overpay Nene and then begin using assets like Randolph and Beasley in a three team deal for Igoudala.

With Rubio-Johnson-Igoudala-Love-Nene you could definitely compete and I haven't included anything with the pick.

And the love affair with Varejao continues...

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
