So, are the Wolves heading into the draft without a head coach again? What does this say about the organization? Is this a bad deal for them?

Its not all that uncommon. Golden State talked about how they might do it this year too. Our issue was that without a head coach, we didn't have a great player evaluator in the draft room in 2009.

Thanks. Do we have an evaluator now?

I just do not know what to think of it...one year we drafted all the guards (granted we traded one, probably the best one of the group) and last year we took Wes over Cousins (granted to early to tell but we have a ton of players - note players - no real stars unless you count Love who can not play defense) at SF and PF when Cousins could have been our upgrade at C.

I trust Tony Ronzone more than I've trusted anyone else in our front office the past 5 years.

Thanks, I hope he can make a difference in what we do.

Many around here are assuming (and hoping) Rambis is gone.

Fair assumption?

Isn't there supposed to be a meeting today?

Any news on that?

Klomp,

You say it is not that uncommon, but could you give me some more examples?

I think it is terrible. You need the coach there.

We need to finally cut ties with Rambis and let him pursue the Lakers job, and we can get someone who fits better here.

Yeah, I don't think it's a big deal at all. We have our #1 and #2 player personnel people there. We also have our assistant coach (and possible future coach) running the darn thing. At #2 we're likely choosing between 2 players that are currently in the United States - Kanter or Williams. At #20 (if we keep it) we're likely getting a player that is not going to make much of a difference.

In that case, going into a potential lockout. I'm guessing that man is Laimbeer. Otherwise I think they will just be adding a defensive coordinator and give Rambis one final year.

Posters on Rube seem to be pretty adamant that Laimbeer is worthless and not coming back regardless of whether Rambis comes back or not.

Do they know something we don't know?
I couldn't tell anybody how valuable Laimbeer's work has been because I have no insight on the coaching stuff other than seeing that Rambis throws out awkward rotations, refuses to call timeouts on 10-0 runs and draws up bad plays.

Here's where the Laimbeer hate is coming from:

Apparently this guy is a well respected poster from the ESPN boards

I wish we could convince Željko Obradović to leave Panathinaikos and become Wolves coach. :o

Before Rambis was hired, when Laimbeer was being mentioned as a candidate for the HC position, a Detroit area beat writer was on Paul Allen's show and was overwhelmingly negative on on Laimbeer's ability to coach in the NBA, saying that there was no way his style (which was basically being a jackass from the way the writer made it sound) would translate to coaching men with huge contracts. I'm guessing some of the Rube hate is rooted in that, given it's the KFAN board and many of them probably heard the interview.
