Big trade with Det and Cle brewing?

From Chris Broussard:

"Cavs, Pistons, Twolves discussing 3-team trade that would give Cavs 1st & 2nd picks, sources say."

"Cavs absorb Rip Hamilton into 14.6 mill trade exception & get Det's 8th pick. Cavs send 4th & 8th picks to Minny for 2nd pick"

I'd do it if we will get Kanter.

I would do it for Kanter and Burks, or even Biyombo and Burks, but there's a few things that seem to make this nothing but a rumour.

Firstly, it's way too early to have these kind of indepth discussions. Individual workouts haven't started yet as far as I know so I don't see why Detroit wants to throw away their pick without at least seeing what guys are like. Secondly, and most importantly, Kahn has been stressing that the team is too young. Adding 2 top 10 picks isn't a great way to resolve that issue. Finally, it's Broussard. The guy has about a 50-50 hit rate with rumours if we're being generous, so you have to take his word with a grain of salt.

True. Take it with a grain of salt, but the premise isnt bad. I think the goal in this case would be to move Wes to the 3 and use Beasley, Flynn, #20 to get a good vet. Or he turns around and moves both picks in trades to upgrade c and pf.

If we want to trade out of #2 (and there's a lot to support why that's in our best interest) this is probably the best deal we could hope for in terms of trade value.

I'd like one of the centers at 4, now in this order or pference -- Biyombo, Valanciunas, then Kanter.

At 8, I'm not a huge Burks fan. I'd like to move 8 + 20 + contracts for a vet if possible. Iggy?

I give you the Burks interview drinking game:

Every time he says "I feel like" you have to take a shot. Good luck.

Workouts aren't the first time these teams have seen prospects. And he's already said that theres more than one way around the issue of being too young.

I agree with Klomp. I think Detroit's scouts have seen enough all season to know that there's no one that blows them away, no one that's a can't miss, at #8. They tried to do the same deal at the deadline untl Rip balked at a buyout so it's no surprise.

The last thing this team needs with as young as we are is two more lotto picks. I'd like this trade alot more if we could get Varajeao with the 4 and 8 and then flip one of those picks for a vet like Iggy. If we could come out of the draft with Varajeao, Iggy and one of Kanter, Biyombo or Jonas, that's pretty damn good.

Strongly disagree. When you've won 32 games the past two years the #1 thing you need is more lotto picks.

Agree with Krap. You can win with youth (see okc), but you talanted youth and a great coach.

completely agree...i'd rather have a young, talented team with future championship/deep playoff run aspirations then trade for vets and settle for mediocrity....of course the later can be done
successfully...i just think it's incredibly risky, hard to pull off and requires perfect circumstances.

Sign me up. I'm not in love with Williams and adding in that I don't know what position he truly excels at in the NBA and you offer me potentially the 4 and the 8 to not take him? Sounds good.

I'm on board with one of the defensive centers - Biyombo and Jonas and I waiver from hour to hour on Kanter - at 4 and then use the 8 and 20 for our veteran acquisition. Rubio, Biyombo and Iggy - good off season. Add in some sort of moves with Beasley, Flynn and Pek and you have a grand slam IMO.

Agreed. I don't think anyone is a lock in this draft. I would prefer two shots in the top ten. I like Williams, but he is the exact position we do not need and he is by no means a sure thing. I say take BPA at 4 and 8 and you add young talented depth. There are lots of options at 4 and 8 that I like as much if not more than Williams at 2.

Exactly. I know Kahn doesn't want so much youth, but if went ahead and drafted BOTH Valuncianas AND Biyombo at 4 and 8, I wouldn't cry. I'll take them both and since this is my guy Kahnsy - he can take Bebe at 20 and corner the market on freaky, long, skinny guys. Wouldn't the press love that one.

I would like this fine. The players I would want at #2 should still be there at #4, (Kanter or Biyombo), and then use the #8 in a trade for a vet or just take Burks. And the Wolves wouldn't be forcing Williams in with the other 5 PF/SFs.

I'd have preferred the Varejao + 4th pick that i suggested on draft day but this is quite good, trading down is definitely the best option.

Come on! Add in Pek and Flynn and get Varejao back!

Keep in mind that Kahn has talked about bringing in vets, so I don't think both will be used on rookies. It's more likely a trade down brings us pieces that are a closer value fit to the usual suspects that people keep attaching to us. For example, Iguodala is certainly not worth the 2. I wouldn't give the 8, but I think that's closer to what the consensus thinks is fair.

Despite his phrasing's lack of variety, I'd be very excited about Burks at #8. Then hopefully a Wes/Pek or Darko/#20/filler for Iggy deal could get pulled off.

I think Iggy's more SF than SG, and I think he's pretty average when it comes to breaking his man down in iso situations, so the skill set of Burks would still be needed.

Rubio/Ridnour
Iggy/Burks
Beasley/Webster
Love/AR
Kanter, Biyombo or Valanciunas/Darko or Pek

I like a lineup like that going forward, although the outside shooting in the starting lineup is certainly suspect (even though Iggy shot 39% from beyond the arc in spot up situations).

I really like this rumored deal. Burks and one of the foreign bigs is pretty much an ideal scenario to me.
