Move over Jonny Flynn....

Post#1 » by Krapinsky » Thu Jun 2, 2011 8:07 pm

Here's a thread to speculate on Flynn trade scenarios...

A Phx based reporter says the Suns will be interested:

Gambo620 John Gambadoro
Suns will show interest in trading for minnesota point guard johnny flynn...suns draft workout will be in next week to 12 days

20 + Flynn for #13?

Or just Flynn for #13? (if his actual value is higher than we all think)

Is Brooks a FA? I don't see why PHX wants Nash, Brooks, AND Flynn. Maybe they are planning on blowing it up and sending Nash to a contender? If so, maybe we can facilitate and get some more assets.

So I'm already derailing this "places for Jonny" thread into a "Places for Nash" thread...whoops.

Just spit balling here and I didn't check salary, but something based around:

PHX, MIN, POR?

PHX, MIN, UTH?

---------------------------------
Another place I could see Flynn moving to is Toronto.

As @TheRocketGuy mention in today's article, the Toronto Raptors are currently the frontrunner to acquire Jonny Flynn.

It's gotta be for a portion of the TPE then. I can't see anyone outside of Bayless interesting us, unless it's a sign and trade and Barbosa is that vet we think we can sign cheap.

I don't really see anything plausible swapping the #2 and #5 picks either.

I would hate that. The only other person in the lotto worth giving up Beas for is Vesely, and Williams does a lot of the same things Vesely does only better. I'd give up Beas for DeRozan but that'd be about it...

Maybe Calderon would be involved in the deal? Spanish connection?

I hope it's not Flynn for second round picks. That would suck.

I can't imagine hating that more for the Wolves.

Whoops. I spoke too soon. That's even more awful.

Nash/Frye for Beasley, Flynn, Pekovic and #2

or

Nash/Frye/#13 for Beasley/Flynn/Pekovic/#2/#20

Get Nash to mentor young Rubio and get the Vet Big to help spread the floor with Love

I think a handful of teams will be interested. Hopefully we can get a decent package.

Those would have been fair offers about ten years ago.

We don't need to be using some of our best assets just for a mentor to Rubio, our main priorities are upgrades at the SG/C spot. I'm not sure Fyre is that great of a fit next to Love either, we really need a defense orientated big to match up with Love.

Nope. I do Flynn and #2 for #5 and Derozen. Still get one of Kanter, Biyambo, etc at #5. Derozen isn't Gordon, Mayo, and others we've discussed, but he's a good fit at SG and probably more realistic.

Figuring Toronto values Derozen more than that, would also do #2, Flynn, Ridnour, and Webster for DeRozen, Calderon, #5 and filler.

Jonny/Darko for Calderon/Alabi? Or am I way off on our end?

Raps fans are about as willing to trade derozan as minny fans are willing to have a Bargnani/Love frontcourt. I think we should establish that Raps aren't trading Ed Davis or Derozan, and also that Minny has absolutely NO desire to trade for Bargnani. Raps fans keep coming up with deals that involve Bargs and it's ridiculous because Love/Bargnani would probably be the worst defensive pair of bigs in the league. Even from the raps perspective, we wouldn't want to keep Bargnani and trade for Kevin Love (not that it's even possible). Something involving picks probably makes the most sense. Jose would make sense as a backup PG for minny, tho. With his connection with Babcock (signed Jose) and Ricky (who would probably play much better if he felt comfortable) it could work. He is grossly overpaid but solid as a back up vet PG who's great in the locker room, plays the game the right way, and can actually be a spot starter if Ricky struggles for stretches. He's almost a perfect fit because he's not so good that he'll effect the length of Rubio's leash, but he's good enough to lead the team and definitely teach Ricky how to adapt to the NBA. His contract also has only 2 years left.
