Keep Jonny Flynn
Anyone interested in keeping Jonny Flynn as backup PG if we dump Rambis and install a PnR system that would fit both Rubio's and Flynn's strengths?
Ridnour probably has higher value as a trade chip, if that helps anyone out.
Thoughts?

I wouldn't mind keeping him, but if there's a taker, then ship him out.

Re: Keep Jonny Flynn
There is no point in keeping him in MN. He's damaged goods here, and it'd be really hard for him to recover from what happened in his career so far. It's best for him to go.

Agree. Just let Rubio take over the PG spot and move on.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Re: Keep Jonny Flynn
all he would do is cause chemistry problems at this point. Rubio is our guy and he would eventually be a 12 to 16 mpg backup. Ridnour will be more accepting of the role and will be better for the team. Flynn will net us more in a trade anyways. Im still hoping for a Flynn for Robin Lopez deal.

Re: Keep Jonny Flynn
It's not good for us, and it's not good for Flynn.
I actually think he has a chance of rebounding from his poor performance last year, but it won't happen here. He needs minutes (those are going to Rubio), and if Rambis isn't fired, he needs a system that fits his game.
I think we trade him for the best offer from a team taking a flier on him, and I hope the guy helps his career elsewhere.

Re: Keep Jonny Flynn
Flynn is trash. He looked alright in PnR situations when Randolph came over, but he is one of the worst in the league at defense, doesn't look like the type of guy to control and offense and his shot is shakey. Add that to the fact that his stay in Minnesota has worn out and I don't think he even wants to come back due to the fact that he was being shopped hard during the trade deadline.
Ridnour is the perfect backup for us...he is a vet, he can shoot and pass and he is an underrated defender IMO.

It's a shame they didn't dump him for an expiring at the deadline, knowing Rubio/Ridnour would be the combination this year.

Re: Keep Jonny Flynn
i would love to keep him to the all star break...his value is negative now...one half of a good season could get us a much greater return than anything we could get now...he couldn't possibly have lower value then...it's win win to keep him for a while in a more simple offense imo

Re: Keep Jonny Flynn
I think Flynn for a future 1st/late 1st or a decent role-player would be good return, but he doesn't have a future here.

Re: Keep Jonny Flynn
He had one of worst seasons ever last year(it seems like it), He needs to go, the fans have had it with him(he seems to have a little attitude problem) and I think he has had it with the wolves.

Re: Keep Jonny Flynn
The only way we keep Flynn is if there are only negative offers (long, bad contracts, etc.) to accept him in a trade. He seems like a nice enough guy, but I am not at all convinced he is an NBA point guard.
I expect in a year or two he will be playing ball in Europe. Maybe in 3-5 years he comes back to the NBA, maybe not.

Re: Keep Jonny Flynn
Dallas gave in this playoffs a interesting lesson for the Wolves, with Barea and Kidd playing together many minutes.
If Rubio was Kidd (
) ... Who could be our Barea? I'm talking about a not great size PG, good defender (keeping Rubio guard SG even SF), and a decent shot.
I think Jonny Flynn still can get a decent shot and if Rubio and Jonny can become in good defenders, they would be a interesting PG couple.
Also, next season nobody will ask them play the playoffs, and keeping Flynn the Wolves can concentrate in his weaker position, the Center.
BTW, in this scenario Rubio should work hard until get a decent shot (in other scenarios too ).
And we can forget the stupidity of the vet mentor for Rubio.
Recap : KEEP FLYNN ... but I know I'm in risk with the people are going to say : You don't want competence for Ricky in the roster.

I thought people looking at the Synergy data found that despite his reputation, he actually wasn't that effective in PnR situations?

I don't expect that's he's in the Wolves future plans but I see no reason to rush to get rid of him. He might be able to build up his value some next year.

Re: Keep Jonny Flynn
I've read other teams forums and many fans are interested in him. I'm starting to think the "mentor for Ricky idea" is something absurd. I prefer a PG who can compenetrate with Rubio and Jonny can be this PG, at least maybe he can become to be this PG.
Must Jonny improve his defense? YES Must Jonny improve his shot? YES Must Jonny be improve his bandhandling and passing? NOT NECESSARY ... Barea isn't a good passer and his bounce isn't good, but he can have a good role near Kidd. I'm not sure Jinny can't do the same.
And Rubio must improve a lot of things too ... or What are you thinking? .... Is he going to be Kidd since the first day?
KEEP JONNY ... KEEP JONNY !!!

Do you mean his dribbling? That is one of Barea's greatest strengths I think.
