Report: Sixers, Clippers Discuss Iguodala For Kaman Trade
Jun 08, 2011 6:46 PM EDT

Amid increasing signals that the Philadelphia 76ers are finally prepared to deal Andre Iguodala after years of trade speculation, another potential swap has surfaced that would send the swingman to the Los Angeles Clippers for center Chris Kaman, sources with knowledge of the discussions told ESPN.com.

Although it's believed that the trade has not yet advanced past the discussion phase, sources told ESPN.com that the Sixers and Clippers have discussed an Iguodala-for-Kaman swap.

The Clippers have long maintained that the only scenario that would convince them to part with Kaman -- whose career has been plagued by injuries but who had an All-Star season in 2010 -- is getting an elite small forward in return.

Chris freakin Kaman? Seriously?
Pretty sure we could top any package including Kaman relatively easily. Get it done Kahn.

I bet Kahn doesn't offer anything because he's afraid of Iggy's salary, though. :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

With how much Iggy is apparently being shopped, I'm fully expecting him to move on draft day. It's up to Philly to decide was is best for them.

Monta Ellis
Chris Kaman
Wes Johnson
Mike Beasley
#2 pick (Derrick Williams)

I'm not including any other draft picks because obviously #2 is the best unless a team is willing to part with a great/decent player AND their high pick.

If he's really being shopped for Kaman, then including the #2 in a trade for him would be overpaying.

We're all just playing guessing games til draft day. None of the chatter matters.

Anybody who thinks Kahn would go after Iggy hasn't been paying attention. It's been reported numerous times that Kahn thinks Iggy isn't a sufficiently elite scorer to justify his salary. And I must say I agree. Iggy is one of the league's very best defenders, but as a No. 1 option, he just isn't it. Plus he'll be 28 this season. I know there's a lot of Iggy love on the board and I respect that. I just don't share it.

Well yeah, but it's what MN has. I'd rather have Iggy than anyone in this draft, so if my hands are tied I'd be tempted to pull the trigger on #2 for Iggy+Meeks/Speights/16.

I'd give up the 2 for Iggy and Meeks

I agree with this. I don't think that it's Iggy's scoring that's the issue for Kahn. I don't believe for a second that he'll be allowed to add salary like that. Both because Taylor doesn't want to spend, and Taylor doesn't trust Kahn enough. In other words, we're ****.

I agree with a Eshony. I think there are certain contracts that Kahn is not allowed to even consider saddling the team with, no matter how much the player may meet our needs. When Kahn was hired it was one of the only things they pimped about him was his CBA knowledge and his cap savvy. Taylor was not going to go the route of "open checkbook" again unless he was sure he had a winner for a team.

It's a good point by Esohny and it could be true. At the same time, I think they realize they're probably goint to have to overpay someone to 1) get fan interest, 2) try to get some improvement in the win totals, and 3)put Rubio in the best situation for success early on as possible.

It's somewhat similar to the Rashard Lewis signing by the Magic. Way too much $, but fit a huge need at the time, and they wouldn't have improved without him. I know we're not the same kind of team as the Magic, long run it hamstrung them a bit, and Iguodala is less of a scorer, but it's similar. Now if you can fill that hole for a lot less with a DeRozen, Mayo, etc, then that's the option you push for even if you have to give more valuable assets.

On the other hand if you don't want to trade #2 for Iggy, do the McGee, #6 and #18 for #2 trade then offer #6 for Iggy.

^^^ Taylor's method of "waiting for a superstar" and "the ability to play with the big boys" before spending is great for his wallet....but terrible for the fans. It's nice that he isn't buying the farm for one and done playoff performances (I know....I chuckled to myself after I proofread that too  ), but it would be nice to be a competitive team that wins a few more games.

Don't get me wrong, I think that refusing to add salary to improve the team is shortsighted, but that's what I'm seeing from the team. Sadly, that means my ideal offseason of adding Marc Gasol is never going to happen.

How about a little different take on things.Due the rumored #2 trade for McGee,6th and the 18th pick. Then use the 18th and 20th pick along with Flynn,Pekovic and Johnson to land Rudy Gay.The Grizzles might have to throw in a play to make thing work out cap wise. That kind of deal would be my way of thinking.I would much rather have Gay then AI 2.0.

Then we could have a starting five of Rubio,Burks,Gay,Love and McGee with Beasley coming off the bench as our super six man ala Larmar Odom. Then the rest of the bench with Ridnour,Randolph,Darko,Tolliver,Ellington and whomever we can get via free agency for a back up SF and or SG.That would be a pretty deadly team depending on how Rubio turns out.

I don't know if Beasley could work as a super sub. Most of those guys, like Odom or Ginobili, are really versatile, complete players. Beasley isn't.

Iggy has only been on the radar with fans. I've been wanting him on this team for well over two years now, but you never here any rumors tying him to MN.

Which is a shame. I think he is a great fit for the team.

Source close to Sixers-Clippers trade talks says of Iguodala-Kaman: "Don't waste your time," when asked how seriously it should be taken.

If that's the case we can as well fold the franchise. :-?

Taylor don't wanna pay him. Maybe if we were closer to being good. I agree, he fits really nice here.

Shrug. Might happen.

But I think that Kahn will continue to try to build the team with rookies and relatively cheap vets. Love will probably get paid because even the Wolves know that it would be a killer to just lose a player like that.

If the deal is for the expiring Kaman, it looks like PHI doesn't want to pay him either!

We could offer some financial relief (Webster, Flynn, cap space) and something to compensate that Kaman actually provides some production. However, this costs us money we might need for the next round of 2012 contracts to Love, Beasley and AR.

Also keep in mind that while Iggy has a lot of things we'd like:

1. Defense
2. Penetration
3. Passing

.. there are also reasons to not want the guy:

1. Poor outside shooter
2. No upside left
3. Showed he can't handle #1 role
4. Paid $42 mil for three years

He's a fairly good fit, but he's not perfect, and that contract is a lot to pay.
