Trade Idea for #2 pick

Post#1 » by cavsfan58 » Mon Jun 13, 2011 7:11 pm

CLE gets: #2 pick (MIN) Rip Hamilton (DET) Darko Milliic (MIN)
MIN gets: #8 pick (DET), Iggy (PHI)
DET gets: TPE (CLE) Eyenga (CLE) #54 (CLE) Daniel Gibson (CLE) future second via NOH (CLE) 3 million $ cash (CLE)
PHI gets: Anderson Varejao (CLE) Wesley Johnson (MIN) #32 (CLE)

Cleveland gives up the TPE, Eyenga, the 54th pick, Daniel Gibson, a future second, Anderson Varejao, and the #32 pick
Minnesota gives up Wesley Johnson and the 2nd pick, Darko Millicic
Detroit gives up Rip Hamilton and the 8th pick
Philadelphia gives up Igoudala

Why cavs: don't give up the 4th, Hickson or any first rounders and get the 2nd pick
why timberwolves: They move back 6 spots and can pick Valanucious who some teams feel is better than Kanter and they also get Igoudala for an unproven Wesley Johnson... they get rid of the big contract they gave Darko that gives them a great young lineup of Rubio/Iggy/Beasley/Love/Val
why Pistons: This is the exact package that they requested, the get immediate cap relief, get 2 nd round picks
why Sixers: they get a hustle guy that Philadelphia fans would love (I went to a 76ers game and they need something to cheer about, some hustle for loose balls), they get Welsey Johnson who may have a breakout year and they also get a second round pick... They could get Tristan Thompson at #16, Chandler Parsons at #32

Thoughts?

No.

Not as good a return as 2 + Darko for 4 + Varejao and Johnson + Pekovic for Iggy.

Weren't Philly fans okay with something like Wes/Darko/#20 for Iggy? So here, we also keep the #20, give up #2, in order to get the #8? Big value gap there.

Cleveland gives up an overpaid Varejao, takes on an overpaid Rip, and gets the #2 in the process? Huh?

Iggy does not get the Wolves any closer to a championship, so it might be better to see if the existing team can improve with experience or better system. Assuming the #2 is Williams, then take a season before deciding who to get rid of.
Also which contract is worse? Darko $4.3 / Pekovic $4.2 compared with another league center DeSagana Diop $6.4 (source ESPN trade machine). Bad contracts are nothing new in the NBA. Also you should never trade away mana.

No, 2+ darko+Wes for Iggy+8 is too much to give up. Cleveland has no shot at getting the 2 without the 4 coming back.

Cavs get way too much, and I'm even one of the guys who thinks taking Rip for the 8 is OK
