Bill Simmons: Wolves leak everything

Post#1 » by Calinks » Sat Jun 18, 2011 4:01 am

Via his twitter:

Funny NBA drama right now: #2 pick is being frantically shopped, but everyone is scared to negotiate with T-Wolves cuz they leak EVERYTHING.

Looks like we can't be trusted.

Everyone else says that the Wolves haven't been initiating conversations. Simmons is such a knob.

Who really cares if stuff is leaked? Honestly it is a business and the players should know that.

I don't see it. I read up on a lot of rumors, and the only one that I've seen that might have been leaked is the DeRozan trade. Every other "rumor" is basically "Minnesota wants to trade away the 2, and team X wants to trade for the 2, so let me speculate on some possible pieces."

Yea I'm sure the Wolves leaked that they were going to do a trade for Granger where they get raped. I heard from my ticket rep that the 2 for 4 and 8 deal was "complete bs." Even if we are leaking info, that's how you keep getting teams to up their offers. I actually believe the Wolve would be happy sticking at two and taking Williams or Kanter. So "frantically shopping" the pick sounds like bs to me.

I think it's very possible and even believable. I remember when the Minnesota Twins were trading Santana, and it seems like they were playing Boston and NY against each other to get the best deal. Then someone from the Yanks (probably Steinbrenner) basically said we're not playing this game, take our offer or leave it. We might not know about the leaks, but other teams might if we're informing them what we're being offered.

I'm not sure if it's true or not. Either way, Minnesota is obviously only looking out for themselves (just like every other team in the NBA). If that's how they think they can get the best offer, than I wouldn't care if it was true. Furthermore, I don't believe teams are going to cancel all contact with Minnesota. All NBA teams would love to have that second pick.

I actually like Simmons, but ever since we hired Kahn (and not him) he has hated us. Whenever I read anything he has to say about the Wolves I always think, "he must really want Kahn to be fired so he can say, 'look how much better that guy was NOT."

He did say Beasley was a great steal for us though. So at least he gave Kahn props one time...

Exactly what I was thinking. The Derozan one was the only one that favored us. For example leaking that Houston wants the #2 pick doesn't do much to raise it's value.

Nothing of substance has been written about as far as I can tell.

Hell yes the Wolves are leaking info to the press..

In the past few weeks we have heard specific details about Cle,Tor, Houston, Mil and now Phx trying to trade for #2. Maybe Kahn wants to start a bidding war but all of the leaks may lead to the opposite result. Most trades that get made happen quickly and are not leaked (see teams such as Utah or the Lakers).

I like Simmons' stuff too, but this line is just worn out, and I'd be surprised if it fools anyone either in MN or in a more major market. When Simmons hangs with his "buddy" Darryl Morey (GM of the Rockets), any nuggets he gets aren't categorized as leaks. Simmons will reference them later in his columns as "a conversation with someone in the know," since they help Simmons do his job.

Since Kahn doesn't give Simmons those nuggets, he bashes him. It's a similar deal with Wojarnowski, IMO.

The only thing the Wolves leak is points, blame that on Rambis.

From an outsiders perspective, there's been talk of the #2 for Gasol, Ellis, Iggy, the Detroit-Cleveland three way, bogut, Gortat, Derozan, and Houston being interested. Now, maybe the leaks aren't coming from Minnesota's front office, but there sure is a lot of stuff floating around about that pick.

But, I think Simmons is a giant tool, anyways.

Edit: also Was.

So because Gortat tweeted that he might get traded that equals a Wolves leak. Then with Cleveland getting the second pick along with the first pick seems more like a Cavs leak. The only leaks I believe are from us are Toronto, Houston, Mil. If I remember correct the McGee rumor came from a DC radio station. All the other players mentioned have been purely speculative by guys like Ford.

The Gortat rumor was out before Gortat tweeted about it.

Again, most of those rumors involve the Wolves getting raped in a trade. Doesn't exactly sound like the sort of thing that the Wolves would want to leak.
