Good question ... been wondering the same thing. Apparently, the Wolves do not have a great liking for Kanter or they'd be pretty quiet. No one has a good handle on the guy, so there seems to be some added risk.
If we picked him #2 for need, we let the potentially best player slide to #3 without being compensated for that value. I think this is where the Wolves are hung up ... we finally get a top 2 pick and it's right in our "least need" category and they want something for it.
so ... IMO ... Since we are bottom of the league, we really need to draft BPA and I think that's clearly what is going to happen when Derrick Williams comes aboard next Thursday evening. Beasley is improving, but not proven he will be the guy even though he thinks he is. Webster does not seem to have much upside but a solid role player moving forward, and Johnson ball-handling may force him to a reserve role as well. Randolph? Give him minutes and see, else see if he can effectively accept a key backup role. Point is, I don't think we can pass on Williams, when in reality, the depth is there but the talent is unproven.
