Rumor: Flynn to NYC?

The Knicks have had preliminary discussions with the Minnesota Timberwolves about a trade for point guard Jonny Flynn. No formal deal is in place, but the Knicks are debating whether Flynn, the sixth overall pick of the 2009 draft would be a viable option to back up Chauncey Billups for at least one season. Flynn has become expendable now that the Wolves have signed Spanish guard Ricky Rubio, who was taken one pick ahead of Flynn.
Toney Douglas would likely be the player traded for Flynn. However, Douglas is coming off major shoulder surgery, which in theory would make him tough to deal. But Flynn is a similar medical risk. The 6-foot guard out of Syracuse had hip surgery last July and was limited to 53 games in his second year, not including a stint in the D-League. New York Daily News
I've always assumed he'd be packaged with another asset.

GTF out of here with that trade. No way in hell does that go down.Flynn is a much better player then Tony Douglas plus Flynn plus a pick and whatever else has much better trade value were we can land a bigger fish i.e Bogut,AI,Gortat....ect what have you.Theirs zero chance that Khan pulls the trigger on that deal.Sorry Knicks fan look some were else, now if you want to give us Billups in return or better yet Melo or Stat then we can talk.

Based on what? Douglas has produced so much more in his first two years than Flynn has plus he plays defense.

I think we get ripped off it its just a straight swap, if Flynn can get over this injury he still has the potential to be a starter in this league, many forget he started 81 games in his rook year with muppets like Jawai, Pecherov and co, and did an admiral job.
I am a realist, and i see the writing on the wall, and hope Kahn atleast send him to a good home.

I think Toronto would be a great home for him I just don't know what to offer you guys. TE? Barbosa? Alabi? #5 (If Wes Johnson is included in a bigger deal?)
Point guard Jonny Flynn has been recently linked to the Toronto Raptors following Ricky Rubio's announcement of signing with the Minnesota Timberwolves. There is mutual interest from both the Raptors and Flynn. Toronto was interested in the 6-foot guard during the 2009 draft before ending up with USC freshman DeMar DeRozan.
"Toronto is right over the Border from where I’m from, I’m basically a Canadian," said Flynn, during a post-workout interview prior to the 2009 NBA draft. "It’ll be nice to come here, my family and friends can see me play here, I followed the raps when Stoudemire and Camby was here but I’m a knicks fan."

Huh? Is that based on his inferior production compared to Douglas, or his non-existent defense?

Yer crazy, kid. It's a hard league, and right now that guy hasn't proved anything. It's a wonder people want him around at all.

Douglas > Flynn

Right now Douglas is a better player on a better contract. But then so are 95% of the PG's in the league. Unfortunately it doesn't salary match, NY has no TPE's, and the deal would have to be expanded to include more salaries, and the only other small tradeable contracts are Turiaf (4.36 mil player option), Renaldo Balkman (2 yrs @ 1.675 mil/yr), and Bill Walker (916k 1 yr), and Landry Fields and Andy Rautins non-guaranteed minimum deals.
So we'd likely have to take back Balkman, which I won't do.
At this point I would rather just salary-dump Flynn and use the money in trades/FA when the new CBA is finally hammered out, or if possible to move up from 20 in the draft.
The writer's complete ignorance that it doesn't salary match shows it is just speculation.

TE for Flynn + Webster? Saves you over 8 million. I dont know what else Toronto can offer that makes sense for us and you.

Done. That would leave us enough room to make a huge offer to Marc Gasol and enough assets to try to do a sign-and-trade.

To me, you have to take on Pekovic together with Flynn for your TE. It will clear around 7 mil from our capspace and it will be very handy in making future trades( see Randolph or Beasley trades). But I'm sure many on this board will disagree with me, a lot of people here are still drinking Pek kool-aid for some weird reason.

So you want Amare or Melo for Jonny Flynn.......................
Wow.
I would be up for doing Douglas for Flynn as a Knicks fan but the NYK board is torn...some would do it straightup, others want you guys to add something and some refuse to do it as they dislike Flynn. I personally think Flynn can still be a solid player in the NBA and that is why I would do the deal straightup. Douglas is ideally a SG so he'd fit your plans better as opposed to us trying to convert him into a PG. Flynn would probably feel more at home playing for the team he grew up loving in NY.

I like the idea of a Flynn/Douglas swap. Douglas plays very good defense and isn't ball dominant. I think it'd definitely be possible for Rubio and Douglas to share the backcourt at times. Even with Balkman added, the deal also saves us a little money out of pocket.

Douglas would be a decent role player for us off the bench. He can score from the 1 or 2, is a good defender and is a pretty solid 3 pt shooter... If Turiaf didnt have that large option I wouldnt mind him as a backup garbage center who plays some D and is a great shot blocker.. either way it is a lateral move as far as talent goes but might be alright because Toney would understand his role

Douglas was balling when Billups went down. I'm satisfied we can get a solid player like Douglas for Flynn. I thought Flynn was worth much less around the league. Too many whiners on here, Flynn is trash injured or not.
