Defensive Coordinator?

Post#1 » by Klomp » Tue Jun 21, 2011 1:19 am

Its becoming more and more of a possibility that Rambis will remain as our head coach. If thats the case, we are expected to hire an assistant to run the defense. One name that remains out there is Dave Joerger, who is very familiar with the region. Prior to his stint with Memphis, he coached both the Sioux Falls Skyforce and Dakota Wizards, and also played his college ball at Moorhead State (not Faried's).

I don't know a ton about him other than that he is known as a great teacher, and is credited with the reworking of the Grizzlies' defense.

I guess it would be better than status quo, but dear lord, how can they keep Rambis?

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

I guess they want to help the Clippers in the lottery.

You mean trading for Shane Battier and playing Tony Allen more? I'm pretty sure the Gay injury and trading for Battier made more difference than a coach would've, but I could be wrong. I wouldn't oppose it, and any effort torwards improving defensively sounds good to me. I really wish we'd just kiss Rambis bye-bye, as the odds of him ever turning the ship around are slim (much like Flynns chances in MN). Has a coach ever been given this many chances with such a poor record and actually turned it around?

Additional tidbit I never knew before. If you only want to quote part of a previous post, just click and drag over that part so its highlighted, and click "quote". I'm not sure if the newbies knew this, since I've been here a while and just discovered it.

If by defensive coordinator, you mean a big burly guy assigned to keep Rambis away from the Arena at all times I am with you 100%.

When you are talking about bringing in smarter basketball minds as assistants to make up for a coach's shortcomings it is time to kick the head coach to the curb. The Celtics weren't exactly turds defensively without Thibodeau last year either. The more great minds and communicators, the better, but it all starts and ends with the philosophy and attitude of the head coach.

So are we going to get an offensive coordinator, rotations coordinator, team motivation coordinator, and in game instructions coordinator, too?
