Who Should We Hire?

Post#1 » by Klomp » Thu Jun 23, 2011 5:39 am

Now that it appears to be over, who should we hire as the 10th coach in franchise history?

I'd go with Lawrence Frank. Teaches defense & would be a good coach to Rubio like he was to Kidd. He should be given a second chance like Avery Johnson.

Yeah, I think Frank is probably the best available for this team.

Or Adelman if Kahn can swing it.

@JerryZgoda Jerry Zgoda
Just saw Ric Bucher's SportsCenter segment where he says #Timberwolves have discussed replacement coach staff of both Bickerstaffs with J.B. taking over head-coaching duties from his dad down the road when he's head-coach ready...

I like Sam Mitchell, but I think I'm being too biased. He seemed to really argue and play childish games in the media with his players. The X's and O's were great from what I remember, but the communication stuff I think is what leaves everyone with a sour taste in their mouths.

What completely bums me out is Dwayne Casey was by and large my favorite suitor, and I knew it would never happen. :(

Maybe Rubio can attract a really good option, but at this point I just want a coach who adapts to the players he has, stresses defense, and is not a total jerkface.

Yea, I would have liked to see Dwane Casey too.

And if JB survives another coach change, he must be the most beloved person in Minnesota. The Target Center could get nuked and after ten minutes you would see him sauntering out of the ruble.

We need a statue of JB gracing the Target Center.

As for who we should go after...I like the idea of Lawrence Frank, but the last time he had a really young team was with the Nets which turned out horrible. Don't know how much of that was coaching and how much was the roster but, yeah, has to be a factor. Maybe he's just better as a veteran coach?

Sam Mitchell should be hired as an assistant. He's not head coach material, but he's still a smart guy who would probably like to get another shot on a coaching staff.

Frank seems like the best choice. I like that he runs a fairly simple offense, and preaches D. then once our team develops a little bit we can always try to bring in another coach to "advance" our offense with.

Although I personally would like to see Rambis back next season if he indeed was fired :( then I would like to see JB be given a chance.

Zgoda: Lawrence Frank wouldn't touch this job with a 39 1/2 foot pole.

Jerry Zgoda:
Don't think they'll consider Sam much, if at all. Think the Bickerstaff idea makes the most sense. A guy like Adelman is out there, but he'd want a lot of money and is at point of his career where he wouldn't need a situation like this unless he wants to coach again REALLY bad

I'm torn on the Bickerstaff thing. I mean, I like J.B., and I guess, having him as a "coach-in-waiting" type of deal isn't terrible. But Bernie...I don't know, that whole father-son vibe feels weird to me LOL
