Re: Post-Draft Cap Info
When free agency hits for 2011-12 (after a new CBA is signed), our salary would be 52,588,564.
If we had the same cap as last year that would translate to 5,455,436 in cap room.
Once we sign Derrick Williams, our salary rises to 53,379,644.
This does not account for signing Malcolm Lee.

Re: Post-Draft Cap Info
I would have to think that Pekovic will be moved for cap space (to make room for a veteran FA). There's just no reason to have a 3rd string C making nearly 5 million when we also have Brad Miller.
Edit:
Also, it will be interesting to see what happens to Tolliver. Between Love, Williams, Beasley, and Randolph all of the PF minutes (and then some) should be filled.

Re: Post-Draft Cap Info
copy from draft day thread as i think it's on this topic too:
i imagine a package of martell(expiring), tolliver(cheap expiring), pek and one of the memphis picks wouldn't net us much...but what could it bring? i wouldn't mind salary dumping them to the cavs into their trade exemption and give them one of the memphis 1st rounders and cash considerations bringing back a future protected 2nd round pick. would probably clear up 10/11 million in cap this off season(not that there will be much of one) to bring us up too about 16 million in cap space which would allow us to offer a good deal to gasol or tyson chandler...gasol would probably be matched and chandler would probably not wanna play here. a guy can dream right
EDIT - check that, i wanna keep tolly because he's cheap, good guy/locker room guy and can play pretty well....put brad miller in salary dump instead

Re: Post-Draft Cap Info
For the 2012-13 Cap Year, when Beasley, Love, and Randolph are RFA's,
Our total guaranteed salary would be 32,156,290
Not Including any 1st round picks (Like if we got Utah's 2012 1st).
This number would not include Malcolm Lee or qualifying offers/extensions to any of our free agents, and would assume Ellington, Hayward, Miller, and Webster are waived or their options declined.
So start with 32,156,290, and add on the amounts for extensions for our free agents.

Re: Post-Draft Cap Info
If Martell could prove he is healthy he would be moveable. But he hasn't.
Don't think Pek can be moved for raw cap space or TPE, maybe for a similiar 2011-12 expiring though.
Our best chance to move these guys was w/Flynn or in a trade down from 2.
Miller's contract will be enticing at the trade deadline and at next year's draft because of the nonguaranteed 2nd year and that insurance covers it. I don't know that he ever suits up for us.
Think Ryan Gomes' deal but better because insurance covers it.

Re: Post-Draft Cap Info
I was kind of disappointed we couldn't throw Hayard into the Flynn trade to open up a little cap room and a roster spot, but Houston is in bad shape with roster spots too. Dumping Koufos on Denver is looking to be a prescient move by Kahn. Pek is looking like our worst deal at the moment.

I'd rather keep Webster. He's got the buyout next year anyway, so dumping him for nothing doesn't seem to do much.
I would dump Pek though. No reason to keep him, especially if Brad Miller is actually somewhat healthy.

Doesn't seem like he is though. It seems like there's a decent chance he never suits up for the Wolves.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

if we got rid of him before july 1st we'd clear 5-6 million in cap space to make a run at someone this off season(again, not that there will be one)
what sort of carrot would it take to dump martell, pek and miller into the cavs excemption? would the proposed future memphis pick and cash considerations be enough? probably not i'm guessing.

I'd move everybody outside of Love/Rubio/Williams/Lee/Beasley/Wes/Randolph for cap space if we could. Maybe keep Ridnour. Maybe

I underlined the "before July 1st" part because Martell's tiny ($600,000) 2012 buyout makes it very likely we could move him by that date.
The fact that Martell gets guaranteed money (either his contract or the buy-out) in 2012 means he'd be eligible to be traded after the season is over (unlike a true expiring, which would need to be traded by the trade deadline. This gives Webster strategic trade value. Some team's fortunes can change in the last third of the season or the play-offs, and Webster represents a last chance to move unwanted salary before the 2012 season.

Re: Post-Draft Cap Info
Yes Martell is in the "ryan gomes" situation, but a more favorable one. Could be a nice trade chip come next year's draft if there is a hard cap, but I can't see us using it when we will need to hoard $ to sign Randolph, Love, & Beasley.

Re: Post-Draft Cap Info
Wolves future pick situation:
Owing:
2012 1st to the Clippers, unprotected. Marko Jaric trade.
Interesting situation is that there is a scenario where this pick could end up going to Boston.
When the clippers sent their own 2012 top-10 protected 1st to OKC for Eric Bledsoe, the clips put a provision in there that OKC would get the lesser of the LAC own 2012 1st and MIN own 2012 1st if both fell outside the top 10. OKC traded the rights to that pick to Boston in the Jeff Green/Kendrick Perkins deal. So if we finish with a better record than the LAC next year, and we draft outside the top 10, our pick will go to Boston and not the LAC.
2012 2nd to Dallas - top 55 protected. If in top 55, our obligation to Dallas is extinguished.
2013 2nd to Boston via Cleveland
Ramon Sessions trade. Sent to Boston for Luke Harangody.
Unknown future 2nd to Houston (Jonny Flynn/Brad Miller trade)
(Essentially sold for cash)
Owed:
2012 Utah 1st (Al Jefferson trade)
2012 top 14 protected, 2013 top 12 protected. If not conveyed by 2014 and if UTA 2014 1st rd pick is not within top 9 picks, MIN will have the option to swap 2014 1st rd pick with UTA. If MIN does not receive a first round pick by the 2013 draft and also does not swap 2014 first round picks with UTA, then MIN will receive UTA’s own 2014 second round pick.
(If you ask me Kahn got seriously hosed in the protections on this pick. Could have been the pick they used to take Alec Burks @12 if Kahn had been able to negotiate top 10 protection on it.)
But who knows, maybe it will net us a better player in 2012 or 2013.
2013 Mem 1st via Hou
Jonny Flynn trade. Originally sent to Hou in Thabeet trade.
(top 14 protected in the 2013 Draft, top 14 protected in 2014, top 14 protected in 2015, and top 14 protection in 2016 Draft). If Minnesota via Houston has not yet received this first round pick by the 2016 draft, then so long as Memphis' own 2016 2nd round pick is among the top 55 picks then Minnesota via Houston shall instead receive (1) Memphis' own 2016 2nd round pick and (2) cash. If, however, Minnesota via Houston has not yet received this first round pick by the 2016 draft, but Memphis' own 2016 2nd round pick is not among the top 55 picks then Minnesota via Houston shall instead receive (1) Toronto's own 2016 second round pick via Memphis and (2) cash. [Houston - Memphis, 2/24/2011 and then Houston - Minnesota, 6/24/2011]
2013 New Jersey 2nd
for #31 2011 (Bojan Bogdonavic)
2014 New Orleans 2nd
From the Songalia/Antonio Daniels trade.
2015 Denver 2nd
For Kosta Koufos.
So to recap, these are the picks we'll have
2012:
Utah 1st (top 14 prot)

Re: Post-Draft Cap Info
Since it's unlikely we can trade Pek for capspace I would combine him with Ridnour and Lazar and go after Calderon. He's better than Luke and can help Ricky to settle in better.

Re: Post-Draft Cap Info
Luke is a good backup PG on a decent contract. I want him to teach Ricky those floaters and ball-protecting scoop layups he is so good at.
But I would consider your deal Turnover because it allows us to open up 2 roster spots. Depends on how much you like Pek I guess. Leaves the depth at C lacking if Miller can't come back from his injury.
Maybe they throw in Alabi too.

We could perhaps entice Sacramento with Pekovic + Ridnour. They have Cousins, may need to resign Dalembert but won't need to if they have Pekovic. They also just sent away their only true PG in Beno Udrih to Milwaukee. Ridnour could fill that void and serve as a back-up to Fredette. Add in Webster as a back-up to Tyreke Evans and bam. $13 million more in cap-space for the Wolves. I might even add the Memphis 1st to make it happen.
Fredette/Ridnour
Thornton/Webster
Evans/Casspi/Webster
Thompson/Greene
Cousins/Pekovic
We'd still have Calderon at $9 million when we have to extend Beasley, Love, Randolph which doesn't sound like a good idea.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt

I like my idea best of Ridnour/Pek for Hinrich's 8m expiring. Being an Iowan, he might even like it here!

Re: Post-Draft Cap Info
Maloofs are not taking on $, certainly not Pek/Ridnour. They just sold all but 2% of the Palms Casino to keep cashflowing their businesses. They also have Whiteside waiting in the wings as a backup C.
That team is headed for disaster with the players and personalities they have. What's the over/under on the date Cousins punches the Jimmer in the face?
You'd have to think Miller's Insurance-covered deal would be enticing to Atlanta, to go off your Hinrich idea Klomp. I prefer Ridnour though as a backup, plus it would leave us with no backup to Rubio next year. Would be nice to dump Pek's contract though.
I'm excited to watch Malcolm Lee. I think he can be a George Hill level combo guard but a better defender. Maybe he plays his way into making Ridnour expendable eventually.

Re: Post-Draft Cap Info
(Updated)
2012 2nd to Houston (if 31-55) or Dallas (if 56-60)
Flynn/Miller trade (Hou) (essentially sold for $), Jawai trade (Dal)
2013 2nd to Boston via Cleveland
Ramon Sessions trade. Sent to Boston for Luke Harangody.

Utah 1st (top 14 prot)
