Assessing the situation. (The team)

Post#1 » by Busch Legion » Fri Jun 24, 2011 3:35 pm

We have a glut now.

These are the players who I want to keep: Rubio, Love, Randolph, Williams, Beasley, Johnson.

One of Beas or Williams will have to eventually be traded, but I'd like to see how both play first.

Depending on how Darko handles being second fiddle to Randolph ( I hope he starts ) he should be the backup C, which means bye bye Pekkers.

We have absolutely no room for Ellington, Hayward or Tolliver anymore.

Don't know whats up with Webster, I want to see what Lee has to offer. Maybe send him to the D-League and keep Webster as the back up.

Rubio/Luke
Johnson/Webster
Beasley/Williams
Love/Williams/Beasley
Randolph/Darko

And Kahn stressed he wants to bring in a vet or 2, so what happens then?

I'm fairly certain that after the new CBA stuff gets done, depending on what other teams need to do to adjust...the Wolves will use any combination of players not in the 8 man rotation toward getting a vet. Does Willie Green make a lot? He seems like he'd fit the bill. I think finding a team to buy in on Peks potential is our best bet.

I personally think Minnesota needs to allow Rubio and D-Will to develop before you have them as our rotation guys. I would like to see both players sent to the D- League while we sort everything out with this current roster.

Yea. Right now this roster needs to be balanced out and I hope we can do so before this season starts and secondly we are gonna have a new head coach with new offensive and defensive schemes and i feel by allowing Rubio and D-Will to develop in the D-League will be best for them and the team overall in the long haul. If neither player is starting opening day which I dont expect them to why not allow them to develop their games in the D-League while the team is going through it's learning curves and growing pains.

We are having new offensive and defensive schemes potentially, and you want the two youngest and possibly highest potential players on the roster to go away from this opportunity to learn along with the rest of the team and play in the D-league with all sorts of random players/coaches who you would rather have them start developing under?

Yeah, ok...

If the NBA had a true minor league and the Wolves had a D-league team under our control, where we could ensure they are learning the same concepts the Wolves are preaching, maybe I'd buy into this, but that's just not what the D-league is.

D-league is for the Malcolm Lees of the NBA, not the Ricky Rubios and Derick Williams. Besides, Rubio is not part of the imbalance on the roster. PG = Rubio and Ridnour.

:o

ala Hasheem Thabeet?

That would be the worst move we could make, competition-wise, PR-wise, and ticket-wise.

I think that Telfair,Pek,Hayward,Ellington and maybe even Tolliver will all be gone by the start of next season.I would like to keep Tolliver on the squad but for sure the other four need to be traded or just bought out to make room for a vet or two.So I am thinking the line up will look something like this next season.

PG-Rubio/Ridnour
SG-Johnson/?????/Lee
SF-Beasley/Williams/Webster
PF-Love/Williams/Tolliver
C-Randolph/Darko/Miller

So I think if we can not land a starting center i.e Gasol or Nene that we will role with Randolph as our starter and look for a back up SG that will see minutes and a third string PG that will ride the bench.Lastly from what Khan has said over the last two days it does should like I might have been wrong with Williams starting over Beasley, sounds like their going to use at least in the begging of the season Williams as our six man that see minutes at both the SF/PF spots.

If that's how you fell, you should just order copies of last season's games from Fox Sports North. The rest of us would like to see Ricky and DWill.

If your gonna develop a team and our players then I feel it should be done the right way. Rubio needs to get adjusted to the NBA gamestyle and the same can be said about D-Will. I dont see how sending these guys to the D-League for sometime can hurt Minnesota or can hurt their overall development.

No way Rubio is spending a second in the d-league! This city has been holding its breathe for this kids arrival for far too long.

The D-League really isn't a place for the super-talents of the draft. It never really has been, so I don't understand how some could view it as "the right thing to do" when considering development. The best way to get young, good, smart, talented kids used to the NBA is to throw them to the wolves....no pun intended (who am I kidding, OF COURSE it was intended 8-) ).

You don't put top five talents in the NBADL and they don't need to be sent to the NBADL or you surely shouldn't have taken them with such high picks. Look no further then the debacle the Grizzlies went through with Hashem Thabeet, yes he needed and still needs to be in the NBADL because he clearly shouldn't have been drafted so high.

I said it at the time, if Thabeet had a future in this league he should've stayed at Uconn and spent his senior year playing as a top two option offensively. He was never going to get that chance to get comfortable playing with the basketball in the NBA but as a Senior he would've had that chance.

Not that a season with the basketball at Uconn would've made him into a top two option in the pros but it might've given him enough comfort with the basketball that he wouldn't crap his shorts every time he touched it in the pros.

You can see it on his face and in his eyes when he gets the ball he is terrified that he'll do something stupid which of course leads to him doing something stupid or just getting rid of it.

Thank You for your insight sir, your 7 words have been a great value to this thread

Anyhow as for the rest of you guys and gals, thats just my opinion. Starting Rubio next season would be a mistake imo and it would put too much pressure on him. We have our core, granted we need more role players to compliment the core we have built around but if you gonna build this team, lets do it the right way. If the end result is to win or build a winner, sending either of these guys down to the D-League will not take away from our goals now or long term. They are still gonna develop as players, we need our guys to develop not only Rubio and D-Will but the same can be said about Wes, Beas, AR and even K-Love.

:o

So we should just roll with:

Rid
Ellington
Webster
Tolliver
Darko

with Lee, Hayward and Pek off the bench while our six core guys are in the D-League? Awesome idea.

If you read what I wrote you will see I stated that our players, our core players that is still all need to develop. It's a reason our core guys are working out trying to improve themselves and their overall games right now as we speak. And based on your comment I take it you dont know you can only assign two players down to the D-League...hence Rubio and D-Will.

I hope you aren't still confused my friend.
