Veteran Targets?

Kahn said the team still hopes to add a veteran but doesn’t expect the addition – either via trade or free agency – to be of the blockbuster variety.

“We have enough of the so-called alpha males,” Kahn said. “Do we have that guy who can close a game? I think we have a couple guys who can grow into that role, but I acknowledge they may not be ready to do that yet. That will be a challenge for us, too.”

Who do we target as a glue guy?

The only guy that isn't painful as a role player is probably Battier. But he's not coming here.

I've heard that he or his wife have Minnesota connections

There's some good restricted FAs like Gasol, Afflalo, DeAndre Jordan. As far as unrestricted, it looks pretty sparse - Przybilla? Barbosa maybe?

As far as unrestricted...I just don't see us signing anyone of real value. Let's face it, we have very minimal minutes for anyone to play.

But I would like to see...in no particular order

Joel Pryzbilla
Jeff Foster
Anthony Carter
Joe Smith
Earl Watson
Brian Cardinal

Its tough to tell where the openings are without seeing more deals being made to open up some minutes.

I would love to see Jeff Foster, or Pryzbilla...but I can't imagine they are signing with us to play 10 minutes a game on a non contender. I would also love to see a guy like Earl Watson or Anthony Carter back up Rubio, but not until Ridnour is moved. Otherwise Ridnour is the back up.

All in all, unless we make several trades with our young guys, i think our roster is pretty well locked in. And to be honest I am ok with that...I am confident in guys like Love, Beasley and Tolliver as up and coming leaders. They went through quite a bit last year.

Better leadership from the coach may be all we need. :)

His wife is from here. (EDIT: or so I recall hearing).

Really believe that he'd like to hitch on with a contender and go for a ring. Hell, I want him to; awesome guy.

I don't really even want Ridnour playing PG too terribly much. He flourished playing next to Jennings in MKE. I'm all for just letting him utilize his best asset, putting up long/midrange shots. Bring on Anthony Carter again!

The problem is we aren't going to be attracting any vets that deserve minutes over the players we have so the vet player will be coming to a team that is not going to make the playoffs and they won't get many if any minutes. That is a hard sell.

If we can get Cardinal back i'd be happy. He would be perfect being outspoken and already knowing some of the guys.

I'd love to have a different vet PG as I don't see Ridnour having ANY leadership skills. But that list of FA PG's is pretty f'n lame. And I'd hate to mess with any of the minutes for Wes/Webster/Williams/Beas/Love/Randolph, so I hope they don't get a SG/SF/PF free agent. That leaves the center spot. I know we just got Miller, but does he ever set foot on on our court? I know it's a desire to get an athletic guy to put next to Love, but all I'd really want is to get someone that maybe wouldn't play much, but could get into Darko's face and push him 'cause an angry/aggressive Darko really is a perfect fit for us. Hopefully it's also someone that can teach Randolph some of the finer parts of playing center. I might be way off base here, but maybe getting Ratliff to fill those rolls is something that could work.

Miller can be this guy, if he wants to. He always played pretty nasty, too. Honestly, it's really wierd to me that he's on our team.

I would assume that an acquisition that will get minutes, if there is one, will come via trade and not FA. I don't see us wanting to overpay a vet which is what we'd have to do (and this FA market sucks). I think we acquire some sort of vet from a team looking to cut payroll after the new CBA is announced.

Another name I haven't seen mentioned is Willie Green. I never really liked him as a player, but he'd fit in well as a backup SG. He's 30, and he might be the kind of guy who would be content not playing much.

I'd prefer Bell or Bogans at SG, but would be fine with Green.

They absolutely should figure out a trade where 2-3 guys go out (probably a multi team deal, since at least 2 of them would probably be PFs) and Marc Gasol or even Deandre Jordan come in.

Will it happen?

Magic 8-Ball says that it isn't likely.

What about a guy like James Posey? Plays solid defense, and his $7m expiring would give us a little extra space to sign our core guys to extensions next offseason.

Kirk Hinrich? Another large expiring for the same reason, maybe do a deal like Ridnour/Pekovic for Hinrich.

Turns out Hawks fans think they can get Beasley and Ellington for Hinrich.

I would like to see the team target good glue guys like Anthony Carter. We really dont have any room on the roster for any more guards or forwards, if we can make a trade I would like to see the Wolves bring in Raja Bell.
