Suppose the results of the CBA negotiations is that two teams are contracted. NOH is one, and SAC, (the Maloofs, unable to find a buyer), is another. Players on each team can be claimed by any team willing to honor their contract (the NBA pays off those that aren't claimed).
A - Place the players next to the teams that would pick them.
B - Also, if you want to propose any trades, feel free to add them.

While CP3 is clearly the best player in this scenario. He ends up being at most a 1 season rental and that's if the season isn't shortened.
I'm pretty sure NYK will have the space to sign him as a FA the following year to form the amare melo cp3 big 3.
1. MIN Tyreke Evans
2. CLE DeMarcus Cousins
3. TOR Chris Paul
...dont care bout the rest

If the NBA was going to contract two teams in the current CBA, which teams get cut?
Keep in mind that the NBA is unlikely to oust an owner that doesn't want to sell. With the sale of the Palms, maybe the Maloofs is the wrong choice. Things to look at is market size, owners net worth, commitment to the team, attendance, arena deal, inability to find a buyer, etc. Being successful on the floor does not necessarily mean safety - hence NOH's sale to the NBA when they were losing money and borrowing from everyone for so many years.

NOH is definitely a candidate by those factors. I think it's an underreported aspect of the CBA negotiations, actually... easy to forget that one of the 30 franchises is being "represented" in this labor dispute by the league itself. Leverage, anyone?
It wouldn't have to be a "symmetical" contraction. Even removing one team would help with revenue sharing, right? MLB has had an uneven number of teams for several years: 15 in the NL and 14 in the AL.

I could see them contract one team in order to bring a team back to Seattle in a couple of seasons after a new arena is built.

They have made some extra pocket cash, but that's not going to change Sacto's fortunes. A lockout thats going to hurt chances of a new arena, a failed attempt to move to Southern CA, and a team that still likely won't be any good is even more icing on that cake. I know they have passion for the game, but considering nothing has actually changed for the Kings situation and all the bad PR they got for trying to sneak way... I think they take the money and run.

16 in the NL and 14 in the AL for scheduling reasons I believe. But it is still true that the league are not symmetrical. Where that runs into a problem - and I have heard this argument about baseball - is that then there are more/less teams playing for the same number of playoff spots. Schedule-wise, it wouldn't have a big impact because there are more off days in the NBA season and there are "inter-league"/inter-conference games throughout the season.

If there was one team who would be contracted, it would have to be the Hornets. I love pipe dreams as much as the next guy, but unfortunately the NBA Gods won't give us this one either. I think there are only 3 teams that Paul would sign an extension with who possess the necessary assets to pull of a blockbuster trade with Minnesota and those teams are the Celtics, the Lakers, and the Clippers.
I seriously would consider trading for Dwight Howard if we could do it without trading Love or Paul. but I might just have to take a shot of whiskey and choose Cousins.
Just realized I posted this on the wrong thread.

I could see dealing Paul (if he wouldn't resign - I am sure fans could say adios to Ricky if Paul was coming in to stay but..) to LAC for Gordon and our pick back. Maybe we include another player or something but that could be the frame work.

I'm sure every owner would like to keep his team, but what if the majority decide 51/49 is not enough for them to put a team on the floor that allows them to compete fiscally? Is it possible guys like the Maloofs say, "Sorry - if these are the new rules, buy us out?" Or Sarver in PHX?
Personally, I don't think there are a bunch of rich guys forming a line to own an NBA franchise. If NOH can't find an owner, with Chris Paul and some play-off success, is contractions completely out of the realm of possibility?
